MORAVIAN’S BURLEY NAMED CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK;
JOHNSON & HECK NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

LANCASTER, PA --- Senior defensive back Daniel Burley (Easton, PA/Easton HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore quarterback Matt Johnson (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) and junior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) were named to the Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in Moravian’s 24-17 upset win versus nationally-ranked Ursinus College on Saturday.

Burley, the third straight Greyhound to earn Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, helped the Greyhound defense hold Ursinus to 301 yards on 64 plays, and Moravian kept the Bears offense off the field for more than 30 minutes in the game as Ursinus failed to win the time of possession battle for the first time in eight games this season.  Burley, pictured at right, had eight tackles, six of them solo, and a tackle for loss.  He also added a late fourth quarter interception as the Bears tried to rally after Moravian had taken the lead.  Burley has a team high four interceptions this season as the Greyhounds have picked off 14 passes, returning four for touchdowns.

Johnson, pictured at left, won for the fourth time in five games as the Greyhounds starting quarterback.  Johnson completed 14 of 19 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for 39 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries with one sack.  Since taking the reins as quarterback five weeks ago after four weeks as the starting strong safety, Johnson has completed 63 of 111 passes for 1,039 yards with four touchdowns, two interceptions and four sacks.  He has also run for 306 yards and five touchdowns on 63 carries.

Heck, pictured at bottom right, had six points to help Moravian in the victory.  He was three-for-three on extra-points, and Heck connected on a 40-yard field goal with 1:25 to go in the third quarter to tie the game at 17-17.  Heck averaged 54.0 yards on five kickoff attempts with one touchback.  He also assisted on a potential touchdown-saving tackle on a kickoff return after the game-tying field goal.

The Greyhounds will not return to action until Saturday, November 13th in a Centennial Conference game versus rival Muhlenberg College kicking off at 1:05 p.m. in Bethlehem.
