MORAVIAN’S LUTCZA & ROCKWELL HEADED TO NCAA DIVISION III CROSS COUNTRY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Moravian College juniors Matthew Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley HS) and Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) have been named to the field as individuals for the 2010 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships being hosted by Wartburg College at Max Championship Cross Country Course in Waverly, Iowa.  The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time followed by the women’s race at noon Eastern time.

Once the NCAA selected the 16 at-large teams for each field to go with the 16 automatic qualifying teams, Lutcza, pictured at right, and Rockwell were both among the top seven runners left from the Mideast Region whose teams were not going to the meet which allowed them to both go to the NCAA meet as individuals.

Lutcza earned All-Region honors with a 21st place finish of 316 runners on the 8,000-meter Mideast Regional course at Cooper’s Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania on Saturday with a career best time of 25:51.3, the third fastest time in school history.  Lutcza is the first Moravian make to head to the National Championship race since Patrick Egan went to the NCAA meet back in 1996.

Rockwell, pictured at left, earned All-Region accolades with a 17th place finish of 314 runners on the 6,000-meter Mideast Regional course in a time of 22:53.9.  Rockwell is Moravian’s first runner in the NCAA meet since Heather McGarvie made the meet back in 2002.
