SEVEN GREYHOUNDS EARN ALL-CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE FOOTBALL HONORS
Cancelliere & Petros Named to First Team

LANCASTER, PA --- The Moravian College football team has had seven players named to the 2010 All-Centennial Conference Football Teams announced Tuesday with senior offensive lineman Daniel Cancelliere (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS) and senior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) earning first team honors.

The Greyhounds had four All-Centennial Conference Second Team honoree with junior defensive lineman Seth Payne (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood HS), senior linebacker Philip Bortz (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS), sophomore linebacker Jake Hildebrand (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) and senior defensive back Daniel Burley (Easton, PA/Easton HS) making the defensive squad.  Junior defensive back David Wacker (Parkton, MD/Hereford HS) earned All-Centennial Conference Honorable Mention.

Moravian is currently 6-4 on the season and finished Centennial Conference play at 6-3, one game out of a three-way tie for the championship.  The Greyhounds, who were 1-3 at one point this season and have won four straight games, will play at Wilkes University on Saturday, November 20th in the 2010 ECAC Division III Southeast Bowl Championship game at 12:00 p.m. in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania.

Cancelliere, pictured at left, who has seen action at both left guard and center, has helped the Moravian offense average 285.3 yards and 18.0 points per game this season.  Over the last six weeks, Moravian is averaging 337 yards and 24.7 points per contest while going 5-1.

Petros, who was on the All-Centennial Conference Honorable Mention squad a year ago, leads the Moravian defensive line with 48 tackles this fall including 12 tackles for loss, five and a half of the team’s 13 sacks, two pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.  In just three seasons, Petros, a starter at defensive end, has moved into second in school history with 37 and a half tackles for loss to go with 125 tackles and 16 sacks. Petros, pictured at right, will also be named to the 2010 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll this month for a second straight year, and he is a finalist for ESPN Academic All-America honors.

Payne, who was on the All-Centennial Conference First Team last fall, has started all ten games at nose tackle for the second straight season.  Payne, pictured at left, has 37 tackles this season with six tackle for loss, a half a sack, four pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.  Payne has made 82 tackles in his career with 69 in the last two seasons.

Bortz, a two-year starter at linebacker, has contributed 54 tackles, four and a half tackle for loss, a sack, and interception with a 40-yard return for a touchdown at Juniata College and four passes defended.  Bortz, pictured at right, has a total of 132 career tackles for the Greyhounds.

Hildebrand, pictured at left, is in his second straight year as a starter for Moravian at inside linebacker, and he leads the 2010 squad with 75 tackles, seven tackles for loss, a sack, three interceptions with 32 return yards and a total of seven passes defended.  Hildebrand has contributed 111 tackles in his two seasons with the Greyhounds. 

Burley, a four-year starter at cornerback for the Greyhounds, made 50 tackles this fall to go along with three and a half tackle for loss, five interceptions including a nine-yard touchdown return at Dickinson College, a forced fumble and a total of ten passes defended.  Burley, pictured at right, has played in all 41 games in his career, and he has contributed 204 tackles with 121 solo stops, five and a half tackles for loss, 11 interceptions with 77 return yards, 22 pass break-ups for a total of 33 passes defended, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Wacker, pictured at left, is in his second year as Moravian’s starting free safety.  This fall, Wacker has 65 tackles with three for loss and a sack to go with an interception, five passes defended, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two blocked kicks including a field goal attempt in Moravian’s 14-13 win over rival Muhlenberg College last Saturday to finish the regular season.  Wacker was contributed 127 tackles in his career with 118 in the last two years.
