MORAVIAN TO SEND 21 STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT 2011 ECAC DIVISION III
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

NEW YORK, NY --- Moravian College has qualified 21 student-athletes, 11 males and ten females, to compete at the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by New York University at the New Balance Armory in New York City on Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March 5th.

Live results from the Armory will be available here while video from the running events will be available here. Action is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The Moravian women were  tied for ninth last year after being the ECAC runner-up in 2009 and winning the title in 2008 while the men tied for 27th at the ECAC meet a year ago and were the runner-up in 2008.  Both teams are coming off of Landmark Conference Championships last weekend, the fourth straight for the women and third for the men in the four years of the conference.

On the men’s side, junior Eric Woodruff (Brodheadsville, PA/St. Pius X HS) will be participating in two individual events and a relay for the Greyhounds.  Woodruff, pictured at left, is scheduled to compete in the 55-meter dash with a qualifying time of 6.39 seconds, the second fastest, and the 200-meter dash with the top qualifying time of 22.15 seconds.

Woodruff will also run in the 4x200-meter relay along senior Warner Jones (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS), junior Kyle D’Angelo (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS) and sophomore Justin Taylor (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) after a qualifying time of 1:30.56, the third fastest qualifying time.

Taylor will also be running in the 55-meter dash with a qualifying mark of 6.56 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.95 seconds while Jones is in the 200-meter dash field with a qualifying mark of 22.70 seconds.

Moravian has four distance runners set to compete with sophomore Donald Noble (Souderton, PA/Souderton HS) and junior Matthew Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley HS) both running in the mile run and the 5,000-meter run.  Noble has qualifying times of 4:22.04 and 15:12.37 while Lutcza’s marks are 4:20.0 and 15:17.64.  Junior Steve Ambrosi (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills HS) will compete in the 800-meter run after qualifying in 1:55.18 while sophomore Alex Macri (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS) will be in the same race with a mark of 1:56.41.

Off the track, juniors Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS) and Nicco Dalpiaz (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy HS) will both compete in the pole vault after qualifying at 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches).   Sophomore Travis King (Wilmington, DE/Concord HS) is in the field in the triple jump with a qualifying leap of 13.92 meters (45 feet, eight inches).

On the women’s side, junior Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) will be competing in three individual events for the Greyhounds.  Rockwell. pictured at right, is qualified in the 800-meter run in 2:21.03, the mile run in 5:08.66 and the 5,000-meter run in 17:46.42.  Junior Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) will also run in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.60 while sophomore Nokukhanya Langa (Clarksburg, MD/Clarksburg HS) is in the 55-meter hurdle field with a qualifying time of 8.92 seconds. 

Langa, senior Alyssa Wert (Orefield, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS), junior Lisa Williamson (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and freshman Brigid Walker (Jenkintown, PA/St. Basil Academy) will compete in the 4x200-meter relay with a qualifying time of 1:48.58.

In the field events, sophomore Micah Leonard (York, PA/William Penn HS) will participate in the triple jump with a qualifying distance 11.47 meters (37 feet, 7 ¾ inches) and the long jump after a qualifying leap of 5.58 meters (18 feet, 3 ¾ inches).  Junior Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) will be competing in the 20-pound weight throw after a qualifying toss of

Junior Abigail Schaffer (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is the defending champion in the pole vault while competing for Widener University a year ago and had the second highest qualifying height of 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3 ½ inches) Junior Lauren Molchan (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) will also be in the pole vault after clearing 3.20 meters (ten feet, six inches).
