GREYHOUND BASEBALL TEAM SELECTED TO REPEAT AS CHAMPIONS IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The 2011 Moravian College baseball team has been selected to win its second straight championship in the Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Greyhounds topped the poll with 57 points while The Catholic University of America was second with 53 points.  Susquehanna University earned the third spot with 47 points while Juniata College claimed fourth place with 35.  Rounding out the poll are The University of Scranton in fifth place with 32 points, Drew University in sixth with 17 points and The United States Merchant Marine Academy with 11 points.

Moravian, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Paul Engelhardt (80-76), returns 18 players and 12 starters from last year’s 26-15 squad that won its first Landmark Conference Championship and made the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.  Coach Engelhardt has added another 19 players to the roster this year.

The Greyhounds began their season with a 2-1 record at the 4th Annual Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney on February 18th to 20th.  Moravian will return to the field on Sunday, March 6th in a non-conference game versus Mount St. Mary’s (NY) College as the squad opens a seven-game trip to the RussMatt Tournament in Winter Haven, Florida.
