SEVEN GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD;
MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD

GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Seven members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2010 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA.

Moravian was also one of 113 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Landmark Conference rivals The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, which was second overall with a 3.55 team GPA, Juniata College and Susquehanna University.

Seniors Maura Acox (Old Bridge, NJ/St. John Vianney HS), Lizzette Arias (Arlington, VA/Wakefield HS) and Alexandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS), juniors Selena Agnor (Franklin, NJ/Walkill Valley HS) and Erica Cernobyl (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) and sophomores Kristen Gehm (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg HS) and Catherine Gottlieb (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI HS) represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 1,200 NCAA Division III players from 133 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.

The group helped the Greyhounds post a 5-13 record.  Arias and Lopez were both honored for the fourth time in their career.  Gottlieb had a 2.28 goals-against average, 97 saves and a shutout in goal for Moravian while Acox made four defensive saves in her first year as a defender after three years as the Greyhounds’ starting goalie.  Agnor and Lopez each had one defensive save last season.
