SEVEN MORAVIAN BASEBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Seven student-athletes from the Moravian College baseball team are ranked in the second NCAA Division III Baseball Statistics Ranking of the 2011 season released this week, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in five team categories.

Junior pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) is ranked in six categories including being tied for 13th in the nation with five victories.  Close, pictured at right, is also tied for tenth in earned run average at 0.53, 20th in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.91, tied for 23rd in strikeouts with 45, 25th in walks allowed per nine innings at 0.79 and 39th in hits allowed per nine innings at 5.56.

Junior first baseman Kevin O’Keefe (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton HS), pictured at left, is tied for 28th in the country with ten doubles, and he is tied for 31st in doubles per game at 0.56.

Senior outfielder Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), pictured at rigth, is currently tied for 99th in the nation in stolen bases per game at 0.50. Huber currently has 41 career stolen bases, and needs just two more to break Moravian's career record.

Senior outfielder Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at left, is tied for 23rd in the country in triples with three this season, and his is tied for 70th in triples per game at 0.17.

Junior catcher Austin Rock (Arlington, VA/Flour Bluff {TX} HS) is currently tied for 85th in the nation in toughest to strikeout, striking out just once every 21 at-bats.

Junior pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 33rd with three saves this spring.

Freshman pitcher Jonathan Harasin (Springfield, VA/South County HS), pictured at bottom right, is 39th in the country in earned run average at 1.17, and he is tied for 59th in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.17.

The Greyhounds are tied for 20th in walks allowed per nine innings at 2.7 this season, and Moravian is 26th in stolen bases with 45, 37th in stolen bases per game at 2.5, 38th in earned run average at 3.09 and tied for 40th in triples with seven.

Moravian, which is 12-6 overall and 5-1 in Landmark Conference action, is scheduled to return to the field on Wednesday, March 30th in a non-conference game versus Misericordia University at Gillespie Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
