SIX MORAVIAN BASEBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Six student-athletes from the Moravian College baseball team are ranked in the third NCAA Division III Baseball Statistics Ranking of the 2011 season released this week, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in seven team categories.

Junior pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) is ranked in six categories including being tied for eighth in the nation with six victories.  Close, pictured at right, is also tied for fourth in earned run average at 0.64, eighth in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.79, 14th in strikeouts with 55, fifth in walks allowed per nine innings at 0.64 and 21st in hits allowed per nine innings at 5.57.

Junior first baseman Kevin O’Keefe (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton HS), pictured at left, is tied for 57th in the country with ten doubles, and he is tied for 99th in doubles per game at 0.45.

Senior outfielder Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at right, is tied for 32nd in the country in triples with three this season, and he is tied for 90th in RBIs per game at 1.09, tied for 98th in RBIs with 24 and tied for 60th in sacrifice flies with three.

Junior catcher Austin Rock (Arlington, VA/Flour Bluff {TX} HS) is currently tied for 64th in the nation in toughest to strikeout, striking out just once every 23.5 at-bats. Rock, pictured at left, has struck out just once this season in 42 at-bats.

Junior pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at right, is tied for 46th with three saves this spring.

Freshman pitcher Jonathan Harasin (Springfield, VA/South County HS), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 12th in earned run average at 0.93, tied for 32nd in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.24 and tied for 71st in hits allowed per nine innings at 6.83.

The Greyhounds are 19th in earned run average at 2.83, and Moravian is tied for 21st in stolen bases with 59, 29th in stolen bases per game at 2.68, 29th in walks allowed per nine innings at 2.72, 31st in hits allowed per nine innings at 8.11, tied for 43rd in triples with eight and tied for 44th in winning percentage at .727.

Moravian, which is 16-6 overall and 8-1 in Landmark Conference action, is scheduled to return to the field on Wednesday, April 6th in a non-conference game at Elizabethtown College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
