MORAVIAN WOMEN’S TENNIS SQUAD TO HOST THE UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON
IN 2011 LANDMARK CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP ON APRIL 30TH

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The second seeded Moravian College women’s tennis team will host fourth seed The University of Scranton in the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship match on Saturday, April 30th at Hoffman Courts beginning at 12:00 p.m.

The Greyhounds are 9-6 overall and were 5-1 in the Landmark Conference season after defeating third seed The Catholic University of America, 5-4, in a semifinal final match on Wednesday at Lehigh University’s Lewis Tennis Center.  The Royals upset top seed Goucher College, 8-1, to advance to the championship match with an overall record of 6-9, and Scranton was 3-2 in the Landmark Conference regular season including a 6-3 loss to Moravian at Hoffman Courts on April 14th.  The winner of Saturday’s title match will earn the conference’s automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament with the full field to be announced on Monday, May 9th.

Moravian head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner has the Greyhounds in the postseason for the 17th straight season.  Ketterman-Benner, who has a career mark of 258-101, has led Moravian to the conference championship match in each of the 17 postseason trips with ten conference titles including winning the first two Landmark Conference titles in 2008 and 2009.  Saturday’s match will be the fifth time that the Greyhounds and Royals have met for a conference championship with each team winning twice including a Moravian win in the first Landmark Conference championship match in 2008.  Moravian will be hosting the conference title match for the ninth time in 17 years, and the Greyhounds are 5-3 in the previous eight championship matches at Hoffman Courts.

Sophomore Chelsea Ott (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) is 12-1 at first singles this season while senior Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) is 7-5 with a 5-3 mark at fourth singles this season.  Senior Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) has a 9-10 singles mark with a 5-4 slate at third singles, and McKinley became the seventh player in school history to reach 50 career singles wins.

Freshman Katie Zien (West Suffield, CT/Suffield HS) is 9-9 in singles action in her debut season with a 5-3 record at fifth singles while freshman Erica Venuti (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township HS) is 3-5 in singles.  Junior Brianna Kavanagh (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick HS) is 4-4 in singles while freshman Olivia Sonnabend (King of Prussia, PA/Delaware County Christian HS) has a 2-2 singles mark this season.  Sophomore Stephanie Cox (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace HS) has a 5-11 singles slate including a 3-2 mark at sixth singles.

Ott and Zien have combined for a 6-2 record at second doubles while Endy and Venuti have a 4-1 record at third doubles.  Ott and Endy also have a 3-0 doubles record while Venuti and Zien have a 5-6 doubles record this season and are 3-2 at third doubles.  McKinley and Ott are 2-0 at first doubles.
