FOUR MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO LANDMARK CONFERENCE WINTER ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

MADISON, NJ --- Senior Christopher Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip HS) along with juniors Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS), Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and Lisa Williamson (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) from Moravian College have been named to the 2011 Landmark Conference Winter All-Academic Team announced Thursday, April 28th.

The Landmark Conference has selected 32 student-athletes for the 2011 Winter Landmark All-Academic Team.  Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically.  Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark winter sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better.

The winter All-Academic Team features 11 seniors, 14 juniors and seven sophomores. In addition all six winter sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one student-athlete.  The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletic seasons during the year.

Cullen, pictured at left, capped a stellar career for Moravian on the basketball court. He earned All-Conference honors for the second-straight year after leading the team in scoring in rebounding. He finished his career seventh in school history with 123 three-pointers. Cullen made the Dean’s List three times, and this is his second All-Academic selection as he pursues a degree in biology. 

Layng, pictured at right, has been one of the top track and field performers in the conference in three seasons. He qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships after winning the Landmark indoor pole vault title, his fourth conference title. He holds the school record in the indoor and outdoor pole vault. Layng is studying psychology and elementary education and is a five-time Dean’s List choice.

Rockwell, pictured at left, was the 2011 Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the mile and 5,000 at the Landmark Championships. She also ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the mile and set a new Landmark indoor record in the event during the season. Rockwell is four-time member of the Moravian Dean’s List and is pursuing a degree in psychology and studio art.

Williamson, pictured at right, was a first-team All-Conference performer for the Moravian track and field team. She won the 55-meter dash at the Landmark meet and was a part of the winning 4x200 relay at the meet, and had the second fastest time in the 55-meter dash in the conference. This is Williamson’s second All-Academic selection and she is a two time Academic Honor Roll choice and was named to the Dean’s List.
