EIGHT MORAVIAN BASEBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Eight student-athletes from the Moravian College baseball team are ranked in the seventh NCAA Division III Baseball Statistics Ranking of the 2011 season released this week for games through May 1st, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in seven team categories.

Junior pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) is ranked in six categories including being tied for fifth in the nation with nine victories.  Close is third in earned run average at 0.75, 16th in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.42, tied for sixth in strikeouts with 91, second in walks allowed per nine innings at 0.63 and 12th in hits allowed per nine innings at 5.40.

Senior outfielder Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) is tied for 92nd in the country in triples with three this season, and he is tied for 95th in doubles with 13 while junior shortstop Dave Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) is tied for 82nd in hit by pitch per game at 0.32 and tied for 93rd after being hit by a pitch ten times this spring.

Junior catcher Austin Rock (Arlington, VA/Flour Bluff {TX} HS) is 79th in the country in toughest to strikeout at 18.3 at-bats between strikeouts.  Rock has just three strikeouts in 68 at-bats this season.

Senior second baseman Jake Schweitzer (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) is tied for 35th in sacrifice flies with five in 2011 while senior outfielder Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) is tied for 89th in stolen bases with 18 this year.

Junior pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) is tied for sixth with nine saves this spring.

Freshman pitcher Jonathan Harasin (Springfield, VA/South County HS) is tied for 94th in earned run average at 2.26, tied for 72nd in victories with six and 80th in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.57.

The Greyhounds are 16th in earned run average at 2.81, and Moravian is tied for 24th in stolen bases with 87, 30th in stolen bases per game at 2.35, 14th in walks allowed per nine innings at 2.53, 23rd in hits allowed per nine innings at 8.15, 24th in strikeouts per nine innings at 7.9 and tied for eighth in winning percentage at .811.

Moravian, which is 30-7 overall and 11-1 in Landmark Conference action, is scheduled to return on Saturday, May 7th then it hosts the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament at Gillespie Field.  The top seeded Greyhounds will take on fourth seeded Susquehanna University in the opening game of the tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
