EIGHT GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO LANDMARK SOFTBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS;
Moravian Sweeps Individuals Awards Sharing Player & Pitcher of the Year

MADISON, NJ --- The Moravian College softball team placed six players on the 2011 Landmark Softball All-Conference First Team and two on the Second Team while sophomore third baseman Shannen Mohr (Slatington, PA/Parkland HS) earned Landmark Conference Co-Player of the Year, senior pitcher Elizabeth Python (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman HS) named Landmark Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year, freshman designated player/catcher Taylor Mihalik (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) was honored as the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and head coach John Byrne and his assistants were named the Coaching Staff of the Year as released by the conference office.

Mohr, Python, Mihalik, junior pitcher/utility player Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central HS), senior outfielder Amanda Paulus (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and freshman outfielder Miranda Sergas (Lansdale, PA/North Penn HS) were named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team.  Freshman catcher Cassie Ernst (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona HS) and senior second baseman Stephanie Falzarano (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield HS) earned spots on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team.

The Greyhounds under the direction of 18-year head coach John Byrne, who as a career mark of 579-180, have posted a 35-7 overall record this spring, the 18th consecutive season that Moravian has won at least 23 games, and an 11-1 mark in Landmark Conference regular season action.  The Greyhounds, which have won over 30 games 13 times under Byrne, pictured at left with assistants Amy Rogers, Leah Holmes, Sarah Maulorico and Ron Cardinal, including the last 11 years, won their 12th straight conference title this past weekend with a fourth straight Landmark Conference Championship, and the program played in the conference tournament for the 16th time in 17 years.  Moravian’s NCAA berth is its 13th berth in the last 14 years including a regional championship and berth in the 2007 and 2010 NCAA Division III World Series and a national runner-up finish at the 2004 Division III World Series.

Mohr, pictured at right, is leading Moravian at the plate this season, and she has a .472 average, 42 hits, 29 runs, ten doubles, two homers, a school record 28 walks and 27 RBIs.  In two seasons, Mohr has collected 82 hits to go with a .373 average, 19 doubles, ten homers, 68 RBIs, 54 walks and 181 assists in the field.

Python, who was the 2008 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and on the All-Conference First Team, has a 14-0 record this year with a 0.65 ERA, six shutouts, 23 walks and 85 strikeouts in 86.1 innings of work.  At the plate, Python, pictured at left, has five hits, three runs, two doubles, a triple and six RBIs.  In her career, Python is 41-9 with a 1.33 ERA, 15 shutouts and 236 strikeouts in 326 innings of action.

Mihalik, pictured at right, is hitting .351 with 33 hits, 23 runs, six doubles, five triples, a homer and 16 RBIs in her debut season.  She has seen action as a designated player, catcher, shortstop and outfielder this season.

Carmon, who was the 2009 and 2010 Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year and she was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team as a pitcher and Second Team as a designated player in 2009 and First Team in the pitcher in 2010, is 12-4 with two saves, a 1.42 ERA, five shutouts, a no-hitter of then nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey, 25 walks and 74 strikeouts in 113.1 innings of action.  At the plate, Carmon, pictured at left, has a .345 average with 30 hits, 21 runs, eight doubles, two homers, ten walks and 27 RBIs while seeing action as a designated player and a first baseman this season when not pitching.  Carmon has a 51-15 career record in the circle with a 1.30 ERA, 17 shutouts, six saves and 239 strikeouts in 442 1/3 innings.  At the plate, she is hitting .324 with 112 hits, 24 doubles, two triples, six homer and 34 walks.

Paulus, who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2010 and the Second Team in 2009, has contributed a .341 average, 30 hits, 28 runs, seven doubles, a triple, a team leading six homers and 26 RBIs.  Paulus, pictured at right, has a .328 career batting average with 116 hits, 18 doubles, ten triples, 13 home runs, 68 RBIs and 30 walks in four seasons.

Sergas, pictured at left, has a .352 average, 32 hits, 27 runs, six doubles, two homers and 17 RBIs in her debut season, and she has moved into the line-up as the Greyhounds’ starting centerfielder.

Ernst, pictured at right, has a .444 average with 32 hits, 27 runs, six doubles, a home run, 14 walks, six hit by pitch and 18 RBIs as Moravian's starting catcher. She has also seed action as a designated player this season.

Falzarano, who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2009, is hitting .307 to go with 39 hits, 26 runs, ten doubles, a triple and 26 RBIs.  Falzarano, pictured at bottom left, is eighth in school history with 166 career hits, and she has a .315 average, 125 runs scored, 33 doubles, two triples, 59 RBIs and 52 walks in her career while recording 226 putouts and 225 assists in the field while seeing action at second base and shortstop.

Moravian received an automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament with action beginning on Friday, May 13th.  The Greyhounds are the second seed in a six-team regional being played at SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York.  Moravian will take on fifth seed The College of Staten Island at 12:00 p.m. Friday in the second game of the regional that runs through Sunday, May 16th.  The winner of the regional will advance to the 2011 NCAA Division III Works Series being hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in Salem, Virginia beginning on Friday, May 20th.
