MORAVIAN TO SEND 22 STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT 2011 ECAC DIVISION III
OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Moravian College has qualified 22 student-athletes, ten females and 12 males, to compete at the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Moravian on Thursday, May 19th and Friday, May 20th at Rocco Calvo Field & Timothy Breidegam Track in Bethlehem.  For complete information on the meet, visit http://www.moravian.edu/athletics/track/11/11ECAC/index.htm.

Both of the Greyhound squads won their fourth consecutive Landmark Conference Championships on May 1st. 

On the women’s side, sophomore Micah Leonard (York, PA/William Penn HS) will be competing in two individual events.  Leonard qualified in the long jump with a leap of 5.58 meters (18 feet, 3 ¾ inches) and the triple jump at 11.80 meters (38 feet, 8 ¾ inches), currently 13th in the nation.  Leonard will also run in the 4x100-meter relay with senior Alyssa Wert (Orefield, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS), junior Lisa Williamson (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and sophomore Brittney Harvey (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional HS) after the quartet qualified with a time of 49.33 seconds.

Wert will also compete in a pair of events making the 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 12.67 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.09 seconds.  Junior Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) will run in the 1,500-meter run with a qualifying time of 4:45.03 and the 5,000-meter run with a qualifying mark of 17:40.66 while junior Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) is in the 800-meter run with a qualifying time of 2:17.74

In the field events, junior Abigail Schaffer (Easton, PA/Easton HS) will compete in the pole vault after clearing a qualifying height of 4.06 meters (13 feet, 3 ¾ inches), which is currently second in nation and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships while junior Lauren Molchan (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) qualified with a vault of 3.26 meters (ten feet, 8 ¼ inches).  Harvey will also compete in the long jump after a qualifying mark of 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4 ¾ inches).

Junior Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) is qualified in the discus throw with a qualifying toss of 41.62 meters (136 feet, six inches), and Moses will also compete in the hammer throw with a qualifying mark of 43.88 meters (143 feet, 11 inches).  Senior Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hoban HS) has a qualifying mark of 38.60 meters (126 feet, eight inches) in the javelin.

On the men’s side, senior Eric Woodruff (Brodheadsville, PA/St. Pius X HS) is scheduled to run in a pair of events after setting a school record in the 100-meter dash in 10.48 seconds, which is tied for the fastest time in the nation, and in the 200-meter dash in 21.28 seconds, which is the third best in the country and automatically qualified for next week’s NCAA Championship meet.  Woodruff is the two-time defending NCAA Champion in the 200-meter dash.

Sophomore Donald Noble (Souderton, PA/Souderton HS) is scheduled to run in a pair of events making the 10,000-meter run with a qualifying time of 31:31.95 and the 5,000-meter run in 15:03.61 while  junior Matt Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, PA/ Delaware Valley HS) will run in the 5,000-meter run with a qualifying mark of 15:11.75.Junior Kyle D’Angelo (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS) is scheduled to run in the 200-meter dash after a qualifying time of 22.24 seconds while junior Steve Ambrosi (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills HS) is competing in the 800-meter run with a qualifying time of 1:53.96. 

Sophomore Gary Zack (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood HS) will be competing in the javelin throw with a qualifying toss of 63.67 meters (208 feet, 11 inches), which is automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships and seventh in the nation while sophomore Tyler Potterton (Closter, NJ/NFRHS Demarest HS) is also in the javelin at 60.14 meters (197 feet, four inches), which is 20th in the nation, and freshman Timothy Lorah (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex HS) qualified with a toss of 57.59 meters (188 feet, 11 inches).

Junior Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS) is qualified in the pole vault at a height of 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches).  Sophomore Travis King (Wilmington, DE/Concord HS) will compete in the triple jump after a qualifying mark of 14.04 meters (46 feet, ¾ inch) while freshman Kristopher Joint (Bethlehem, PA/Parkland HS) enters the triple jump at 13.86 meters (45 feet, 5 ¾ inches).
