MORAVIAN’S MURRAY & JOHNSON NAMED LEHIGH VALLEY SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS OF THE MONTH

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Hilary Murray (Clinton, NJ/North Hunterdon HS) and sophomore Garrett Johnson (Allentown, PA/William Allen HS) from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Unsung Player Teams of the Month for December by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization at its first luncheon of the 2010-11 season at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Murray, a guard, has helped the Moravian women open the year with a 3-4 overall record and an 0-1 mark in Landmark Conference action in her third year as a starter.  Murray, pictured at right, has played in all seven games, one of seven players on the team to do so, and is averaging 28.4 minutes per contest.  Murray is averaging 6.7 points per game to go with ten rebounds, 29 assists and 11 steals, and she is shooting 90.0 percent (18-of-20) from the foul line.  Murray has seen action at both point guard and shooting guard this season and has started 33 of the last 35 games for the Greyhounds.

Joining Murray on the December Unsung Player Team of the Month were Kelley Cipriani from Cedar Crest, Jackie Shunkwiler of Delaware Valley, Megan montchyk from DeSales, Andrea Veres of East Stroudsburg, Meredith Starr from Kutztown and Alexandra Berlin of Muhlenberg.

Johnson, a guard, has helped the Greyhounds to a 2-5 overall mark and an 0-1 slate in Landmark Conference action.  Johnson, pictured at left, is averaging 29.1 minutes per game and has started all seven contests after transferring from Lehigh Carbon Community College, where he last played basketball in 2007-08.  Johnson is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game, and he is second in rebounding with an average of 5.1 boards per contest to go with 16 assists, 14 steals and just 13 turnovers.

Joining Johnson on the December Unsung Player Team of the Month were Chris Ellis of Delaware Valley, Jamey Bercier from DeSales, Micah Covert of East Stroudsburg, Tamir Johnson from Kutztown and David Gwyn of Muhlenberg.

The next Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.
