MORAVIAN’S TARA CHIARELLA SELECTED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
FOR WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

MADISON, N.J. --- Moravian College senior Tara Chiarella (Hallstead, PA/Montrose Area HS) has been selected as Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athletes for the fall sport of women’s cross country.

A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. It is the most exclusive award given out by the conference with just 20 honorees for each academic year.  Moravian has now had nine student-athletes honored in the four years that the Landmark Conference has existed.

The other 2010 Landmark Fall Senior Scholar Athletes are: Men’s Cross Country: Adam Scipione, Goucher College; Field Hockey: Eliza Grumbein, The Catholic University of America; Men’s Soccer: Lane Gould, United States Merchant Marine Academy; Women’s Soccer: Chelsea Paskman, The University of Scranton; Women’s Volleyball: Steph Strauss, Juniata College.

Chiarella was a top runner for Moravian throughout her career earning All-Conference honors once in her career. She got off to a strong start by being named Rookie of the Year at the Landmark Championships in 2007 when she placed fourth at the meet and helped Moravian earn a second-place team finish. She has two top-50 finishes at NCAA Regionals in her career highlighted by a 39th-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Regional. Chiarella has been on the Dean’s List four semesters at Moravian while majoring in psychology with a minor in Spanish. She also earned Academic Honor Roll recognition three times during her career while producing an excellent cumulative GPA.
