MORAVIAN’S SMITH AND O’DONNELL NAMED LEHIGH VALLEY SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS OF THE MONTH

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Emily Smith (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) and Ryan O’Donnell (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS) from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Teams of the Month for January by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization at its second luncheon of the 2010-11 season at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Smith, a guard/forward, has helped the Moravian women open the year with a 7-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Smith, pictured at right, has played in eight games for the Greyhounds, missing five contests due to an injury in the season opener.  Smith is third on the squad in scoring at 12.0 points per game, and she is grabbing 4.9 rebounds per contest to go along with 19 steals, 18 assists, just nine turnovers, four three-pointers and an 87.5 free throw percentage (28-of-32), and Smith is majoring in accounting at Moravian.

Joining Smith on the January Scholar-Athlete Team of the Month were Megan DeMutis from Cedar Crest, Missy Milanese of Delaware Valley, Shaina Dymond from DeSales, Jennifer Scherer of East Stroudsburg, Kristen Murray from Kutztown and Sheila Cook of Muhlenberg.

O’Donnell, a guard, has helped the Greyhounds to a 7-6 record in the first half of the season and a 1-2 mark in Landmark Conference action.  O’Donnell, pictured at left, is contributing 5.4 points per game while playing an average of 30.5 minutes per game in his second year as a starter.  O’Donnell, who is majoring in biology at Moravian, has 25 assists and 14 steals while committing just 24 turnovers.  He also has 22 rebounds and eight three-pointers this winter, and O’Donnell had a career high 15 points versus DeSales back on November 23rd.

Joining O’Donnell on the January Scholar-Athlete Team of the Month were Jason Goldheimer of Delaware Valley, Bob Zanneo from DeSales, Mike Tobin of East Stroudsburg, Steve Coffey from Kutztown and Evan Tozer of Muhlenberg.

The final Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon of 2010-11 is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15th at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.
