MORAVIAN FOOTBALL COACH SCOT DAPP NAMED CHAIR OF NCAA FOOTBALL RULES COMMITTEE

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Moravian College head football coach Scot Dapp has been named the chair of the NCAA Football Rules Committee for the remainder of his term on the committee until September 2012.  Dapp is the first NCAA football coach from any of the three divisions to also serve as the chair of the NCAA Football Rules Committee and be President of the American Football Coaches Association. 

Dapp served as interim chair for the Football Rules Committee’s annual meeting in Indianapolis February 7-10 after Randy Edsall moved from The University of Connecticut to the University of Maryland and was unable to serve as the chair for the upcoming year.  The committee voted Dapp its full-time chair at the end of last week’s meeting.

During the committee’s meetings, Dapp and the rest of the group made numerous recommendations including restrictions on blocking. (click here for the story from the NCAA).

Dapp previously was a member of the AFCA Board of Trustees, serving as the organization’s 81st President in 2005, just the fifth NCAA Division III coach to hold the position in 83 years.  He also serves on the NCAA Committee for Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports.

In 2010, Dapp completed his 24th season as head coach at Moravian, leading the Greyhounds to a 7-4 record this past fall and the ECAC Division III Southeast Bowl Championship with a 26-14 win at Wilkes University.  Dapp has a career record of 144-103-1, the school record for victories.

Dapp earned Coach-of-the-Year accolades from the MAC three times. He was the 1988 winner after leading the ’Hounds to a 9-1 regular season, then won the inaugural Commonwealth League honors in 1993, when Moravian won the first-ever Commonwealth crown. In 1997, he was named Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Greyhounds to a 7-3 overall record. The 1993 season also saw Dapp earn career win number 50, becoming just the second Moravian mentor to reach that mark. Dapp reached 100 career victories in 2002, and became Moravian's all-time victory leader in 2007 with his 123rd win. Dapp's .583 winning percentage ranks among the top 50 active NCAA Division III coaches.

A 1973 graduate of West Chester University (health and physical education), Dapp earned his master’s degree in physical education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also is a National Athletic Trainers Association-certified trainer. Dapp is a professor of physical education at Moravian, and served as an assistant softball coach for 11 seasons.

In 2006, Dapp served as an assistant coach for the East squad at the annual Hula Bowl College All-Star game in Honolulu, Hawaii, and he received the John Whitehead Award at the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic for his contribution to the game of football. In 2002, Dapp was recognized by the All-American Football Foundation with the John Vaught Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding performance in the profession, and in 2007, Dapp was honored with the Outstanding Association President Award by the All-American Football Foundation. Dapp was inducted into the Boyertown Area High School Hall of Fame in 2008.
