MORAVIAN’S HEFFNER & CULLEN NAMED LEHIGH VALLEY SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS OF THE YEAR

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Amy Heffner (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland HS) and Chris Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip HS) from the Moravian College basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Teams of the Year by the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization at its third luncheon of the 2010-11 season at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem. 

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.

Heffner, a forward, has helped the Moravian women to a 14-10 overall record and a 9-4 record in Landmark Conference action.  Heffner, pictured at right, leads the Moravian squad in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game, and she is grabbing 7.1 rebounds per contest which is second on the squad.  Heffner has added a team high 37 three-pointers and leads the team in minutes at 30.9 per game.  She also has 40 assists, 31 steals and 13 blocked shots while starting all 24 games.  Heffner is fourth in school history in free throw percentage at 81.7 percent (258-of-316), and she has nine 20-point games in 2010-11 and three 30-point games.

Joining Heffner on the Team of the Year were Lizzy Sunderhaus from Cedar Crest, Brittany Battinieri of Delaware Valley, Lori Lidlow from DeSales, Andrea Veres of East Stroudsburg, Melissa McQuade from Kutztown and Alexandra Chili of Muhlenberg.  McQuade was selected as the Pete Nevins Women’s Players of the Year in a vote by the media, coaches and sports information directors in attendance.

Cullen, a forward, has helped the Greyhounds to a 9-15 overall record and a 3-10 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Cullen, pictured at left, leads the Moravian squad in scoring at 13.5 points per game, and he also leads the team in rebounding at 7.9 rebounds per contest.  Cullen has added 42 three-pointers, 22 steals, 17 assists, five blocked shots and a team high 33.2 minutes per contest.  Cullen is seventh in school history with 123 career three-pointers and fifth in career three-pointers attempted at 361, and he has 960 points and 493 rebounds in his career.

Joining Cullen on the Team of the Year were James Jones of Delaware Valley, Brian Hunter from DeSales, Duane Johnson of East Stroudsburg, Tamir Johnson from Kutztown and Spencer Liddic of Muhlenberg.  Hunter was selected as the Pete Nevins Men’s Player of the Year.
