 POCHRON & HUGHES NAMED TO MAC BASEBALL ALL-STAR TEAMS

ANNVILLE, PA --- Sophomore Joe Pochron (Allentown/Salisbury HS) and junior Jarrett Hughes (Bangor/Bangor Area HS) of the Moravian College baseball team have been named to the 1999 Middle Atlantic Conference All-Star teams announced Wednesday.

Pochron, an outfielder, was named to the MAC Commonwealth League First Team while Hughes, a second baseman, earned MAC Commonwealth League Second Team honors.

Moravian finished the 1999 season with an 11-19-1 overall record and a 5-9 slate in the MAC Commonwealth League.

Pochron led the Greyhounds with 41 hits this season and was second to Hughes with a .366 batting average. His total of 41 hits was one shy of the school record set by Daryl Eisenhower in 1997.

Pochron added a team leading 19 RBIs and three of the ‘Hounds four homeruns this spring. He had 18 runs scored, 13 walks, five stolen bases and four doubles. On the mound, Pochron hurled 16 2/3 innings and posted a 1-3 record.

Hughes paced Moravian at the plate with a .388 batting average on 40 hits in 103 at-bats. Hughes also led the Greyhounds with nine doubles and tied Pochron with 19 RBIs. He added 17 runs scored, 15 walks, three stolen bases and the Greyhounds other homerun. Hughes was second in the field with 55 assists.

This year’s accolades were the first MAC All-Star honors for both Pochron and Hughes.
