MORAN NAMED GREYHOUND CLASSIC MVP FOR 4TH
STRAIGHT YEAR
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior forward Jason Moran (Scranton, PA/West Scranton HS) of
the Moravian College mens basketball team was named the Most Valuable Player of the
21st Annual Greyhound Reebok Classic hosted by Moravian Wednesday evening. The
award gave Moran an unprecedented fourth consecutive MVP trophy at the Tournament and the
Greyhounds their fourth straight tourney title.
In Wednesdays championship game, a 70-66 victory over arch-rival Muhlenberg College,
Moran had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists. He scored the first four points of
the contest and netted Moravians 66th and 67th points on the
game at the foul line with 2:27 remaining. In Tuesdays first round match-up with
Ramapo College, Moran contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
The 6-5 forward posted 24 points in the tournament along with 16 rebounds, 11 assists,
two steals and one blocked shot. Morans rebounding total this year was his highest
of his four MVP performances.
Last January as a junior, Moran scored 47 points and added 12 rebounds, six steals, five
blocked shots and three assists for the Greyhounds. In 1997, he contributed 29 points,
15 rebounds, 10 blocked shots, three steals and three assists. As a freshman, Moran scored
41 points and had eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
In eight tournament games, Moran scored 141 points, grabbed 51 rebounds and added 22 assists,
17 blocked shots and 12 steals.
Moran, who became the 15th player in Moravian history to surpass 1,000 points
last February and is currently 10th all-time in scoring with 1,253 points, is
the first player in the 21-year history of the Greyhound Classic to earn the MVP award
four times. The title this season for Moravian was the 10th and the Greyhounds
have made the championship game 18 of 21 years.
