LADY GREYHOUNDS WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT MAC TITLE,
MEN SECOND

ANNVILLE, PA --- For the fourth consecutive year, the Moravian College women’s indoor track and field team has captured the Middle Atlantic Conference Champions with a 29 point win over second place and host Lebanon Valley College. The Greyhounds men’s squad placed second, two spots better than last year’s fourth place finish.

Leading the Lady Greyhounds was freshman Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/Riverside HS). Wolfsberger won the 800 meters with a MAC Championship record time of 2:22.86. She also was part of the distance medley relay team that won a title on Saturday.

Moravian’s other individual champions were senior Kristie Reccek (Hellertown/Wilson HS) in the 1,500 meters in 4:56.57, freshman Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin HS) in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:54.55 and freshman Steph Horne (Sinking Spring/Wilson West Lawn HS) in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.31 seconds. Reccek also won a championship with the 3,200-meter relay squad.

Competing on the winning distance medley relay team were Wolfsberger and fellow freshmen Tiffany Catalino (Bethlehem/Freedom HS), Erin Boyle (Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy) and Kim Jaick (Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh HS). The quartet ran a winning time of 13:37.01. Boyle and Jaick joined Reccek and senior Amy Cavanaugh (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads HS) on the 3,200-meter relay team to post a winning time of 10:20.11.

Freshman Sarah Shaneberger (Bethlehem/Southern Lehigh HS) was second in both the weight throw with a distance of 44 feet, 2 ½ inches and in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 1 ¾ inches. Sophomore Brooke Dancho (Bethlehem/Freedom HS) placed second in the long jump at 16 feet, ¾ inch while freshman Kay Horstmann-Panke (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville HS) was second in the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 7 ¼ inches. Cavanaugh had a second place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:10.74 while sophomore Hannah Wood (Palm/Upper Perkiomen HS) placed second in the 1,500 meters in 5:10.57.

Placing third for the Lady Greyhounds were junior Erica Landes (Reading/Muhlenberg HS) in the high jump at five feet even, freshman Jen Burkholder (Chal/Gwynedd Mercy) in the 800 meters in 2:32.96 and Jaick in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:16.30. Moravian’s 1,600-meter relay team of Wolfsberger, Burkholder, Wood and sophomore Leah Williams (Andreas/Tamaqua HS) also placed third with a time of 4:28.06.

The Lady Greyhounds also had four fourth place finishes at the MAC Championships. Horne placed fourth in the 55 meters in 7.98 seconds while Dancho was fourth in the 200 meters in 28.99 seconds. Boyle took the four spot in the 800 meters in 2:33.36 and sophomore Maria Grabowski (Churchville/Villa Joseph Marie HS) helped the Lady Greyhounds sweep the top four spots in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:19.44.

Freshman Josh Heebner (Lansdale/North Penn HS), competing in his first Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship as a Greyhound, won the 800 meters in a time of 2:00.53 and he was part of two MAC Champion relay teams to lead Moravian to a second place finish.

Also winning MAC individual championships in addition to Heebner were senior Jeff Minnich (Lehighton/Palmerton Area HS) in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:54.4, junior Tim Pfluger (Slatington/ Northern Lehigh HS) in the 1,500 meters in 4:07.30 and sophomore Bill Schmidt (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge HS) in the shot put at 44 feet, 8 inches.

Joining Heebner on the winning distance medley relay team were Pfluger, senior Nick Murphy (South Kent, CT/South Kent School) and freshman Tim McDade (Bechtelsville/Boyertown HS). The quartet posted a time of 11:00.9. Heebner, McDade and Murphy teamed up with freshman Scott Heydt (Boyertown/ Boyertown HS) to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:21.76.

The Greyhounds had two second place finishes by freshman Kevin Bush (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg HS) in the 400 meters in 53.66 seconds and Heydt in the 1,500 meters in 4:07.55. Sophomore Anthony Rediger (Sellersville/Pennridge HS) captured third place in both the high jump at six feet even and in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 3 ¾ inches. Rediger also placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet even.

Bush and McDade combined with sophomore Lyle Lentz (Glenolden/Streth Haven HS) and freshman Chris DeWalt (Easton/Easton HS) for a third place finish in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:44.62.

The Greyhounds other place winners were junior Dan Oliynik (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls HS) with a fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.21 seconds, a fourth place finish by Minnich in the 1,400 meters in a time of 4:18.59, a sixth place showing by McDade in the 800 meters in 2:05.77 and sophomore Damon Rutherford’s (Reading/Exeter HS) fifth place in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:19.06 and sixth place in the 5,00 meters in 16:38.84.
