LADY GREYHOUND VOLLEYBALL TEAM WIN AVCA HONORS

COLORADO SPRING, CO --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball was one of 149 women’s and men’s volleyball teams across the country, ranging from high schools to four-year colleges, to received the American Volleyball Coaches Association 1998-99 Team Academic Award.

Moravian, which had a team grade point average of 3.44 led by Stephanie Rickards’ (Lansdowne/Upper Darby HS) 4.00, was just one of two teams from the Middle Atlantic Conference and one of 24 NCAA Division III teams in the nation to win the award. The University of Scranton was the other MAC team to win the honor.

The 1998 Lady Greyhounds finished the season with a record of 27-7 and made the NCAA Division III National Playoffs for the second consecutive year.

The award honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.3 cumulative team grade point average during the 1998-99 school year. Nominating coaches must be members of the AVCA.

Recipients of the award range from NCAA Division I institutions to high school girls and boys teams. Twenty-five Division I, ten Division II, 24 Division III, 15 NAIA, one NCCAA, two NJCAA and 72 high school teams are among the honorees this year.
