STROUP NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Moravian College senior pitcher Becky Stroup (Palmerton/ Palmerton
Area HS) has been named the Commonwealth Conference Softball Player of the Week for
her performance last week.
Stroup led the Greyhounds to a 4-2 record and a berth in the Middle Atlantic Corporation
Championship game by winning all three of her decisions by shutout last week. Stroup limited
the Susquehanna University softball team to three hits and no walks while striking out
five batters in a 3-0 win last Monday. She then blanked Wilkes University 1-0 in the first
round of the MAC playoffs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Stoup got Moravian
into the championship game with another 1-0 shutout of Wilkes, allowing six hits and two
walks while striking out two.
Stroup has had four straight shutouts and has a current 32-inning scoreless streak, dating
back to the fourth inning of a game against Elizabethtown College on April 15th. She has
a 13-4 record on the season with seven shutouts, 75 strikeouts and a 1.55 ERA.
Moravian is 24-10 overall and has earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Greyhounds, who will be making their third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament,
await the conference call on Sunday evening, May 7th that will determine the site of the
NCAA East Regional on May 12th through 15th and the other five teams in the regional.
