THREE GREYHOUNDS TO COMPETE AT NCAA TRACK MEET

BETHELHEM, PA --- Sophomores Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/Riverside HS), Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin HS) and Carrie McCaffery (Lebanon/Annville-Cleona HS) of the Moravian College women’s track and field team will be competing in the 2000 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships this weekend.

The 2000 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships are being hosted by North Central College in Illinois from May 25 to 27.

Wolfsberger, who earned All-American status back in March at the 2000 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with a second place finish in the 1,500 meters, will be competing in two events. Wolfsberger, who won a total of seven Middle Atlantic Conference indoor and outdoor championships this year, will run in a preliminary race of the 1,500 meters Thursday at 5:00 p.m. She currently has the tenth fastest time (4:38.2) in the nation this season. If Wolfsberger wins her preliminary or has a top eight time, she will advance to the championship race of the 1,500 meters on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. Wolfsberger will also be competing in the finals of the 3,000 meters on Friday at 6:45 p.m. She heads into the championships ranked 14th at 10:05.8.

Shertzer, who is making her first appearance in the track & field championships after two trips with the Moravian cross country team, is currently eighth in the 10,000 meters at 37:21.44, a Moravian College record. Shertzer’s championship race is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.

McCaffery is making her first trip to the NCAA Championships and she will compete in the finals of the javelin on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. McCaffery heads to Naperville, Illinois with the 12th best throw of the year, 132 feet, eight inches (40.44 meters) and she is less than eight feet behind the leader.

The trio led Moravian to its eighth straight MAC Outdoor Championship this spring and its fifth consecutive MAC Indoor title in February.
