Moravian swept its 11th doubleheader of the
season, defeating Susquehanna
University, 4-0 & 4-2
in eight innings, in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in
the top of the sixth inning of the first game on a three-run home run by junior
designated player Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS)
that scored freshman second baseman Beth
Paly (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS), who had
singled, and sophomore first baseman Lauren
Homa (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS), who
had reached on a single. The homer was McWilliams'
seventh of the season. The Greyhounds added a run in the top of the seventh
inning on a pinch hit RBI single by sophomore Becky DeJulio (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart HS) that scored senior shortstop Heather Bortz (Allentown,
PA/Parkland
HS). The run was the 126th of Bortz's career, tying the Moravian career record set last
season by Janelle Brey.
Moravian finished the game with nine hits with two each by Paly and sophomore outfielder Justina Black (Orefield,
PA/Parkland
HS). Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy
(Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) tossed her school record 14th shutout
of the season and tied her own school mark with her 22nd victory of the year. Hennessy allowed just two hits while
striking out seven batters. The victory was also the 60th of Hennessy's career, breaking Amy Croll's
career mark of 59 wins. Hennessy
also improved her school record totals for shutouts to 33 and strikeouts to
545.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of
the first inning of the second game including an unearned run. Moravian would
tie the game in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by McWilliams that scored Paly, who had
singled. The game would remain tied and head to extra innings. Moravian scored
twice in the top of the eighth inning. Bortz
drew a one-out walk, and she scored on an RBI double by Paly. The run was the 127th of Bortz's career,
breaking Brey’s
record set last season. Homa
followed with an RBI single to score Paly. The Greyhounds had seven hits in the game with three
by Paly. Hennessy earned her school record 23rd
victory of the year, allowing two runs, one of them earned, on four hits while
striking out eight batters. The victory was also the school record 61st of Hennessy's career. Hennessy also improved her school record total for strikeouts to
553.
Moravian swept its 12th doubleheader of the
season and completed the 2005 season with a perfect 16-0 record at home after
sweeping Widener University, 4-2 and 3-1, at Blue &
Grey Field. The win in the first game was also the Greyhounds' 30th of the
season. This is the fifth straight year Moravian has won at least 30 games, and
the seventh time in head coach John
Byrne's 12 seasons that Moravian has won at least 30 games. The Pioneers
took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning of the first game on a two-run
home run. The Greyhounds tied the contest in the bottom of the third inning on
a two-RBI single by Paly that scored senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi
(Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East HS) and Bortz, who had both singled in the inning. Moravian scored two more
runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for the lead and the win. Sophomore
catcher Danielle Carrione
(Bloomfield, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic HS) hit a sacrifice fly to score senior Stephanie Eddinger (Allentown, PA/Parkland
HS), who had come in to pinch run for Black,
who had led off the inning with a double. DeJulio
added a pinch hit, RBI single that scored freshman third baseman Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland HS), who had drawn a walk. Moravian
had seven hits in the game with two by Bortz.
Hennessy earned her school record 24th victory
of the year, allowing two runs, one of them earned, on two hits and a walk
while striking out ten batters. The victory was also the school record 62nd of Hennessy's career. Hennessy also improved her school record total for strikeouts to
563.
The win in the second game gave Moravian it’s first-ever
undefeated home season at 16-0. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the
bottom of the second inning on an RBI triple by freshman pitcher Megan Ritchey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown
HS) that scored Black, who had
walked to lead off the inning. Bortz
followed with an RBI single to score Ritchey.
Moravian extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI
triple by Bortz to score Ritchey again, who
had singled with two outs. Widener would get a run in the top of the fifth
inning to cut the lead to 3-1. The Greyhounds finished the game with eight hits
including two each by Bortz, Ritchey and Paly. Ritchey improved to 6-1 in the circle, allowing a run on six hits
and a walk in four-plus innings of action. Ritchey
also struck out one batter. Hennessy
came on in the top of the fifth inning with the bases loaded and no outs. She
was able to retire the next three batters and worked two more scoreless innings
for her third save of the season. Hennessy
did allow three hits while striking out three batters to raise her school
record total to 566 career strikeouts.

Moravian won its second straight home game, defeating
the University of
Scranton, 8-2, in
non-conference action at Gillespie Field. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0
lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-RBI single by senior designated
player Steve Tomaszewski (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) that scored freshman second baseman Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and
sophomore shortstop Pete Moore (Bogota, NJ/Bogota HS). Scranton would cut the
lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning with an unearned run. Moravian would
get the run back in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI single by single
third baseman Adam Goetz (Dunellen, NJ/Rutgers Prep
HS) to score Moore. The Greyhounds extended the lead to
4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Goetz to score junior outfielder John Howarth (Livingston, NJ/Livingston
HS). Scranton
scored another unearned run in the top of the eighth inning, cutting Moravian's
lead back to 4-2. The Greyhounds finished off the scoring in the bottom of the
eighth with four more runs. Freshman outfielder Josh Baltz (Easton,
PA/Easton HS) hit
a two-RBI triple to score Tomaszewski
and junior first baseman Richie Cline (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport
HS). Sophomore catcher Colin Welles (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere HS) followed with an
RBI single to score Baltz,
and Welles
scored all the way from first base on n RBI double by Stout. Stout was thrown
out on the play trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Moravian finished the
game with ten hits including two each by Goetz,
Baltz and Stout. Freshman Trevor Lawrence (Lansford, PA/Marian Catholic HS) improved to 5-2
on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing two unearned runs on six hits. Lawrence
struck out a season high eight batters while not allowing a walk.
Moravian dropped a 10-0 decision to DeSales University
in a non-conference game played under the lights at Limeport
Stadium. DeSales jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning,
and the Bulldogs added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning for a
4-0 lead. DeSales would get an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning
to extend the lead to 5-0. The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the
fifth inning for a 6-0 lead. DeSales would push a pair of unearned runs across
the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. During the top of the seventh
inning, Moore hit an infield single for his 43rd
hit of the season, tying the Greyhound single season record set by Michael Abbate in 2002 and tied in 2004 by Matthew Turtell. DeSales
scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend the score to
10-0. Moravian had eight hits in the game with two each by Tomaszewski and Stout.
Freshman pitcher Daniel Edleman
(Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) started for the Greyhounds on the mound and
tossed four innings, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on six hits with
two walks and two strikeouts. The loss was Edleman's first of the season in
his longest outing of the year. Freshman Matthew
Swartz (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore HS) tossed the other four innings for Moravian,
allowing five runs, just two earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking
out three batters.
The Greyhounds lost a non-conference game at Arcadia University, 15-2. The Knights jumped out
to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and would extend the lead to
8-0 in the second inning. Moravian got on the scoreboard with a run in the top
of the third inning on an RBI single by sophomore outfielder Mike Rodrigues (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan
Dayton HS) that scored Moore. Moore
had singled early in the inning, and the hit was his 44th of the season,
setting a new Moravian record. Arcadia
would extend its lead to 10-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth
inning. The Greyhounds scored their other run in the top of the sixth inning
when Cline scored on an error on a
ball hit by Baltz.
The Knights finished the game with two runs in the sixth inning and three more
in the seventh before the game was called because of darkness. Moravian had
just five hits in the game with two by senior third baseman Chris Benigno
(Howell, NJ/St. Rose HS). Freshman Brandon
Cohn (Newtown Square, PA/The Shipley School) suffered the loss on the mound
for Moravian, allowing five runs on four hits and a walk while striking out one
batter in just one inning of work. Goetz
tossed the other six innings for the Greyhounds, allowing ten runs, nine of
them earned, on 13 hits and three walks while striking out three batters.
Moravian dropped a Commonwealth Conference
doubleheader to Susquehanna
University, 1-0 & 3-2
in eight innings. The Crusaders scored the only run of the first game in the
bottom of the fourth inning. The Greyhounds had just four hits in the game,
singles by Moore, Stout, Howarth and Benigno.
Moore's hit extended his school record total
to 45 for the season. On the mound, Benigno allowed just an earned run on four hits and a walk
while striking out three batters. The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead in the bottom
of the first inning of the second game with a pair of runs, including one
unearned run. Moravian would cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth
inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Cline
with the bases loaded that scored Goetz.
The Greyhounds tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning when Cline scored an unearned run on a
Susquehanna error on a ball hit Howarth. The Crusaders won the game with two outs in the
bottom of the eighth inning. Moravian had seven hits in the game with two each
by Goetz and senior
outfielder/pitcher Chris Clancy (Kendall Park, NJ/Bishop
Ahr HS). Moore added a
hit to raise his school record total to 46 for the season. Senior Andrew Wach
(Boonton, NJ/Boonton HS) started on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing
three runs, two of them earned, on eight hits and a walk while striking out two
batters. Clancy came on to pitch in
the bottom of the eighth and allowed the game-winning hit.
Moravian lost the opening game of a three-game series
of a Commonwealth Conference series at Widener University,
11-0. The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and extended the lead to
2-0 in the second and 3-0 in the fourth. Widener pushed eight runs across the
plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Greyhounds had just four hits in
the game with singles by Moore, Benigno, Welles and Goetz. Moore's hit raised his school record total
to 47 for the season. Howarth suffered the loss on the mound for
Moravian, falling to 0-4 on the season. Howarth allowed all 11 runs, just six of them earned, on 15
hits and three walks. Stout pitched
1 1/3 innings, giving up two hits. Moore made his
collegiate pitching debut in the seventh inning, allowing just a walk and
striking out one batter in two innings of work.
Moravian closed out its 2005 season with a
doubleheader split with Widener
University, losing the
first game 5-3 & winning the second contest 8-2, in a Commonwealth
Conference twinbill at Gillespie Field. The Pioneers
took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and extended the lead to 4-0 in
the top of the third inning. The Greyhounds scored three unearned runs in the
bottom of the fourth inning to pull within 4-3. Welles had an RBI single to score Cline,
who had reached on an error. Stout had
a two-RBI single later in the inning to score Welles and Baltz, who had doubled. Widener
added an insurance run with a single run in the top of the sixth inning.
Moravian finished the game with nine hits including two by Moore to raise his single season school
record total to 49 hits this spring. Tomaszewski
tossed four innings for the Greyhounds, allowing four runs on six hits and
a walk. Tomaszewski had to leave the
game after being hit while batting. Freshman Matthew Swartz (Dunmore,
PA/Dunmore HS) pitched the
final three innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out
four batters.
Widener took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second
inning of the second game. However, Moravian would score six times in the
bottom of the third inning, with five unearned runs, to take the lead for good.
In the third inning, Clancy had an
RBI single to score Moore, who had
been hit by a pitch, with the first run. Baltz had an RBI single to score
Clancy before Tomaszewski and Cline both
scored on an error. Baltz
and Stout scored the final two runs
of the inning on another Widener error. The Pioneers scored a run in the top of
the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-2. Moravian responded with a run in the
bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Tomaszewski that scored Clancy,
who had also singled. The Greyhounds finished the scoring in the bottom of the
fifth inning on a solo home run by Welles, his third homer of the season. Moravian had seven
hits in the game with three by Clancy,
who finished his career with 97 hits. Lawrence earned his sixth victory of the season
on the mound with a complete game. Lawrence,
who finishes his debut season at 6-2, allowed two runs on nine hits and two
walks while striking out three batters.

Moravian won its second straight Middle Atlantic
Conference match and the team's third MAC win of the season, rallying from an
8-2 halftime deficit to defeat Drew
University, 11-10 in
overtime. The win was Moravian's sixth of the season and third in its last four
matches. The Rangers jumped out to a 6-2 lead during the first quarter, and
Drew held an 8-2 halftime advantage. The Greyhounds would cut the lead to 9-6
after the third quarter, and Moravian out-scored Drew, 4-1, in the fourth
quarter to tie the match. Freshman attack Scott
Jackson (Greenwood, DE/Sussex Tech HS)
scored the game-winning goal for the Greyhounds with 2:34 remaining in the
4-minute overtime session. Jackson finished the contest with three goals while
sophomore attack Daniel Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS) also had
three goals. Sophomore attack Nick
Cacciutti (Media, PA/The Haverford School) added two goals for the
Greyhounds while sophomore attack Clint
Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS), sophomore midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic
HS) and freshman midfielder Shane
Doucette (Merrick, NY/Calhoun HS) each found the back of the cage once in
the victory. Quedenfeld, who
assisted on the game-winning goal and tied the match with no time left on the
clock at the end of the fourth quarter, led Moravian with three assists while Blom and freshmen midfielders Brandon Keiper
(Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) and Aaron
Satterfield (Mt. Arlington, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) each had an assist. Blom won six face-offs for the
Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder T.J.
Hirsch (Lake Peekskill, NY/Walter Panas HS) grabbed a team high
seven ground balls. Freshman goalie Peter
Coutros (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) had
15 saves for Moravian as the Greyhounds doubled their win total from the 2004
season when the squad won three matches in its debut season.
Moravian closed out the 2005 season with a 17-1 loss to Messiah College
in a Middle Atlantic Conference match played at Lehigh University's
Ulrich Turf Field. The Falcons led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter, 14-0 at
halftime and 17-0 after the third quarter. The Greyhound's long goal came with
just 43 seconds left in the match when Cacciutti
found the back of the cage off a pass from Quedenfeld. Hirsch led
Moravian with six ground balls, and he won two face-offs. Coutros had 18 saves in 45 minutes of action while freshman keeper Peter Schenenman
(Carlisle, PA/Carlisle HS) had two saves in the final quarter.

Season Complete
Moravians final dual match of the season versus local
rival DeSales University was cancelled after
lightening and rain just after the match had started.
Moravian had three singles players and one doubles team
advance out of the first round of the 2005 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate
Athletic Conference Individual Championships at Lehigh
University hosted by DeSales University
and Moravian. The first round and the quarterfinals were played indoors due to
weather and all matches are just one pro-set. Junior Neil Caniga (Hampton,
NJ/Voorhees HS), junior Nick Schuett (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS) and sophomore Josh Sheetz (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown
HS) all advanced with first round victories as did the doubles team of Caniga and
senior Mike Helmuth
(Bethlehem, PA/Harrisonburg {VA} HS).
The tournament is also in its first year as a flighted
tournament with six different singles flights and three double flights being
contested.
Caniga
was an 8-1 winner over Mark Schneider of Widener University
in the first singles flight. Schuett defeated fourth-seeded Shawn Becker of Lebanon Valley College,
8-6, in the first round of the fifth singles flight while Sheetz topped Joe Holaska of DeSales,
8-4, in the first round of the sixth singles flight. Caniga and Helmuth defeated Jeremy Speicher and Dave Scherler of Albright College, 8-5, in the first doubles
flight.
Helmuth
lost his first round singles match in the second singles flight to third seeded
Nathen Ipsen of Messiah College, 8-4. Also getting knocked out
in the first round of singles action were Scott
Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS), falling to
John Zalesky of FDU-Florham, 9-7, in the third
singles bracket and Sean Lynch (West
Chester, PA/Henderson HS), losing to Brett Shipe
of King's College, 8-5. In the first round of doubles action, Shelbo & Lynch lost to Michael Byerly and Ryan Horsley of Lycoming College, 8-6, while Sheetz and junior Robert DiLauri (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park
HS) lost to Josh Gardner and Salman Punekar of Wilkes, 8-2.
Caniga
was knocked out of the tournament in the quarterfinals with an 8-6 loss to
second seeded Hassan Shah of Wilkes University while Schuett lost to
Josh Gardner of Wilkes, 8-1, in the quarterfinals. Sheetz fell to Erick Sawchuck of Elizabethtown College, 8-5, in the quarterfinals. Caniga and Helmuth were
also knocked out in the quarterfinals by top seeded Michael Portonova
and Nick Hojsack of King's College, 8-1.

Season Complete
Moravian had a team score of 322 to place second at the Ursinus
College Quad match played at the Stonewall Country Club. The Greyhounds were
one stroke behind Swarthmore College while DeSales University
was third at 341. The host Bears had just three golfers and failed to record a
team score. Freshman Matt Hegarty (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) led
Moravian with a round of 78 on the par-70 course, which placed second of the 19
golfers. Junior Dustin McCormick (East Stroudsburg, PA/East
Stroudsburg HS) was tied for fourth with a round of 80 while freshman Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre
Dame East Stroudsburg {PA} HS) was tied for eighth with an 82. Rounding out
the Moravian group were junior Scott Severino (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley Regional HS) with
an 86, freshman Brian Scofield
(Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) with a round of 90, junior Andrew Styer (Norristown,
PA/Malvern Prep HS) with a 92 and sophomore John Gilbert (Allentown, PA/Freedom HS) with a round of 95. Hegarty and Styer were each
competing for the first time this season for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds had a team score of 320 and were tied for
second place after the first round of the 2005 Commonwealth Conference
Championships being played on the East Course at the Hershey Country Club. Susquehanna University
is in first place with a team score of 316 while Moravian is tied with Albright College for second. McCormick was in first place of the 34 golfers after a round of 76
on the par 71 course. Freshman Bryan Ott
(Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) was tied for sixth with a first round
score of 79 while sophomore Thad Miller
(Emmaus, PA/Emmaus
HS) was tied for 14th after an 82. Sophomore Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) sat in
20th place after an 18-hole total of 83 on the first day of competition while
junior John Donofrio
(Easton, PA/Easton HS) was tied
for 23rd after a round of 86.
Moravian placed second of seven schools at the 2005
Commonwealth Conference Championship being played on the East Course at the
Hershey Country Club. The Greyhounds posted a team score of 648 in the 36-hole
tournament, one stroke behind champion Albright College.
This is the first year of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament after
competing for years in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship. Ott finished second of 35 golfers in
the tournament with a two-day total of 157. Ott played in a playoff with Ryan Ogurcak
of Lebanon Valley College
for medalist honors; however, Ott
hit the water twice on the playoff hole. Ott had a second round score of 78 on
the par 71 course. McCormick finished
fourth with a two-day score of 159 after an 83 on the second day. Both Ott & McCormick earned spots on the All-Conference First Team, and Ott was named the Commonwealth
Conference Rookie of the Year. Bergstol finished
in a tie for 12th place with a tournament score of 165 after a second round
score of 82. Miller was tied for
20th at 170 after a second 18-hole round of 88 while Donofrio finished in a tie for 26th with a two-day score of 171. Donofrio had an
85 on the second day of the tournament.
Women’s Lacrosse – 3-12

Moravian team dropped its final Middle Atlantic
Conference road match of the 2005 season, falling to host FDU-Florham, 12-11.
The Greyhounds led the contest at halftime, 9-7. Junior midfielder Jessica Cordani (Point
Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro
HS) led Moravian with four goals while sophomore attack Lindsey Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan
HS) added three goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken
HS) had two goals and three draw controls for the Greyhounds while
sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Bedford (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood
HS) and freshman attack Kellie
Barnes (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown
HS) each found the back of the cage once. Moravian sophomore goalie Jennifer Gassner
(Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) had 14 saves in the
match.
Moravian team closed out the 2005 season with a 13-11 loss
to Elizabethtown College in an MAC match on the HUB Quad.
Moravian trailed 6-2 just past the midway point of the first half but would
score 9 of the next 11 goals to take an 11-8 lead with 18 minutes remaining in
the contest. However, the Blue Jays scored the final five goals, including two
in the final 34 seconds for the victory. Cordani
led Moravian with five goals and an assist while Lustrino had four goals. Spatz contributed
two goals, and she had a team high six draw controls. Lustrino led the Greyhounds with five ground balls while Spatz scooped up
four ground balls. Gassner made seven saves in the match, and she
also had four ground balls.

Sophomore Kelly
Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS) was Moravian's only competitor at this
year's Penn Relays hosted by the University
of Pennsylvania. Applegate placed 15th in the College
Women Shot Put "Eastern" with a toss of 11.94 meters (39 feet, 2 1/4
inches).
Senior Margaret
Benny (Tamaqua PA/Tamaqua HS) won the 100-meter hurdles to lead Moravian at
the non-scoring Lehigh University Games. Benny
won the race in 15.62 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team of senior Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) and sophomores Kathleen McCarron (Nazareth,
PA/Nazareth
Area HS), Erin Recker (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua
HS) and Suzanne Tamlyn
(Wappingers
Falls, NY/Wallkill
HS) also finished first with a time of 49.20 seconds. Moravian had three
other top five finishers with Rotzell taking
second in the long jump with a leap of 5.18 meters (17 feet), Tamlyn finishing third in the 400-meter dash
in 1:01.70 and junior Alexis Vergalla
(Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees HS) placing fifth in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase in 12:19.08.
In other track events for Moravian, Benny was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.93
while sophomore Amy Reehil
(Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic HS)
was ninth in the race at 1:08.86. Senior Kellie
Smith (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) finished 11th in the
800-meter run with a time of 2:23.87, and she was 15th in the 1,500 meters in
5:02.72. Freshman Christina Roccamo (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS) placed 27th in the 800 meters in a
time of 2:33.23 while freshman Nicole
Sirico (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley HS) was 29th in the 1,500
meters in 6:01.58.
In other field events, Rotzell placed seventh in the
triple jump with a distance of 10.33 meters (33 feet, 10 3/4 inches) while
freshman Theresa Zataveski (Quakertown,
PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy HS) was 18th in the long jump at 4.21 meters (13
feet, 9 3/4 inches). Senior Julie
Anderson (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) placed 18th in the hammer throw with a
toss of 40.14 meters (131 feet, 8 1/2 inches) while freshman Tina Moll (Kintnersville,
PA/Palisades HS) took 18th in the javelin throw with a distance of 26.76
meters (87 feet, 9 3/4 inches).

Dutile (Plymouth, ME/Nokomis HS) was Moravian's only competitor at this
year's Penn Relays hosted by the University
of Pennsylvania. Dutile placed
15th of 19 competitors in the College Men Shot Put with a toss of 14.41 meters
(47 feet, 3 1/2 inches).
Freshman Ozzie
Brown (Plymouth
Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) won the long
jump to lead Moravian at the non-scoring Lehigh University Games. Brown had leap of 46.46 meters (21
feet, 2 1/2 inches) to win the event. The Greyhounds had five other top five
finishers with senior Dan Corey (Fair
Lawn, NJ/Glen Rock HS) placing second in the pole vault at 3.35 meters (10
feet, 11 3/4 inches), senior Scott Silvoy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) tying for
fourth in the 100-meter dash at 11.39 seconds, sophomore Matt Bailey (Reading, PA/Reading HS) finishing fourth in the
400-meter hurdles in 57.20 seconds and freshman Erik Nielsen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS) taking fourth in the
javelin throw with a toss of 48.76 meters (160 feet). Moravian's 4x100-meter
relay squad of Brown, Silvoy,
sophomore John Kline (Reading,
PA/Exeter HS)
and freshman James Bell (Mohnton, PA/Governor
Mifflin HS) was second in a time of 42.59 seconds.
In other track events, Bailey placed seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.07
seconds while Bell
was seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.66 seconds. Junior Greg Rarick (Drums, PA/Hazleton HS)
placed 12th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:09.35.
In other field events, sophomore Michael Ossont (Archbald,
PA/Lackawanna HS) was eighth in the javelin throw with a toss of 46.06
meters (151 feet, 1 3/4 inches) while Corey
placed 18th at 36.06 meters (118 feet, four inches). Senior Shawn Nelson (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem
Catholic HS) led a quartet of Greyhounds in the hammer throw with a toss of
39.32 meters (129 feet, 1/4 inch), which placed him 11th. Sophomore Steve Kondorossy
(Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) was 14th in the event at 36.23 meters (118
feet, 10 3/4 inches) while sophomore Patrick
Callahan (Matawan, NJ/Matawan HS) placed 17th at 32.93 meters (108 feet,
3/4 inch) and freshman Robert Bernadyn (Mahanoy City, PA/Mahanoy Area HS) placed 18th
at 32.45 meters (106 feet, 5 3/4 inches).
