Conference game
Moravian dropped a 4-0 decision to William Paterson (NJ)
University in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader between
nationally-ranked teams at Blue & Grey Field. The Pioneers scored once in
the top of the first inning and three more times in the top of the seventh
inning with all four runs being unearned in the game. Moravian had just five
hits in the contest, one each by junior outfielder Lauren Homa (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West
HS), junior outfielder Justina Black (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS),
senior designated player Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS), sophomore second baseman Keri Traficante (Chalfont,
PA/Central Bucks West HS) and freshman pinch hitter Deanna Mangieri (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills HS). Senior Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) fell to 14-4 on
the year in the circle, allowing four unearned runs on four hits and four walks
while striking out four batters.
The Greyhounds were swept by William Paterson (NJ) University
in a non-conference doubleheader, falling 4-3 in eight innings in the second
game of the twinbill between nationally ranked teams
at Blue & Grey Field. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom
of the fifth inning when a pair of runs scored on a William Paterson error
off of a ball hit by freshman outfielder Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS).
The Pioneers would tie the game in the top of the sixth inning on a pair of
unearned runs. With the game tied at the end of the regulation seven innings,
the teams immediately went to the international tiebreaker of placing a runner
on second base to start the inning. William Paterson ended up scoring a pair
of runs. In the bottom half of the eighth inning, Moravian McWilliams hit a sacrifice fly to score Homa, who had started the inning
at second base. McWilliams did have one hit in the game to
become the 21st player in school history with 100 career hits. The Greyhounds
had seven hits in the game with two off the bat of sophomore third baseman
Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland HS).
William Paterson also had seven hits in the game. Greyhound freshman pitcher
Kristie Pellicani
(Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS) dropped to 8-2 in the circle, allowing three runs,
only one earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out six batters.
Moravian's Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College that had been rescheduled for
Sunday, April 23rd was postponed again due to weather and field conditions. It
has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m. in Elizabethtown.
Moravian's non-conference doubleheader for Sunday, April
23rd versus Franklin & Marshall College
at Blue & Grey Field has been canceled due to both teams rescheduling
conference doubleheaders. The games with the Diplomats will not be played this
season.

Moravian team had its three-match winning streak snapped
in a 16-4 loss to Drew
University in a Middle
Atlantic Conference match on the HUB Quad. The Rangers jumped out to a 5-0 lead
in the first quarter and led 8-1 at the intermission. Drew added another six
goals to lead 14-2 after three quarters. The Rangers had a 46-23 advantage in
shots, a 47-28 edge in ground balls and won 16 of 23 face-offs. For Moravian,
freshman attack Keith Danner (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland HS) netted three goals while freshman
midfielder Kyle Gardner (Emmaus, PA/Perkiomen
Prep HS) had a goal and an assist. Freshman attack Jason Tosches (West Windsor, NJ/West
Windsor-South Plainsboro HS) added two assists for the Greyhounds while
junior midfielder TJ Hirsch (Putnum Valley,
NY/Walter Panas HS) won six
of 11 face-offs. Moravian freshman goalie Benjamin
Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS) made 13 saves and added five ground balls in 45
minutes of action while sophomore keeper Peter
Coutros (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) had
three saves in the final quarter for the Greyhounds.
Moravian fell to Messiah College,
18-6, in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The Falcons had a 44-23 advantage
in shots, a 56-26 edge in ground balls and won 18 of 26 face-offs. Gardner and Brian Cleaver (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) each
netted two goals for the Greyhounds while Hirsch
and Tosches
each found the back of the cage once. Three of Moravian's four goals were
scored with a man advantage. Hirsch
led Moravian with seven ground balls, and he won seven of 18 face-offs while
sophomore defender David Poppe (Simsbury, NJ/Simsbury
HS) scooped up four ground balls. Larson
made eight saves in just over 32 minutes of action for the Greyhounds while Coutros made
seven saves in the remainder of the match.

The Greyhounds fell to the University of Scranton,
15-6, in a Middle Atlantic Conference match. The Royals led 12-3 at halftime
and had a 33-14 advantage on shots, a 26-23 edge in ground balls and won 19 of

Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) scored a pair of goals for Moravian
while sophomore attack Casey Simpson (Laporte, PA/Sullivan County HS), senior midfielder Kindal Estes (New Providence, NJ/New

Feinstein (North Salem, NY/Worcester School {MA}) and freshman midfielder Georgia Castellano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry
Hill West HS) each found the back of the cage once. Lustrino and senior midfielder Jessica

Pleasant Boro HS) each had two draw controls while sophomore goalie Laura Schantz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) led the
team with four ground balls to go along with her ten saves. Junior defender Jenna Abramson (Bangor,

and sophomore defender Mauri Dallago (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown
HS) each added three ground balls for the Greyhounds.
Moravian dropped a 14-5 match at Wilkes University
in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The Colonels had a 29-20 advantage on
shots, an 18-16 edge in ground balls and an 11-10 edge in draw controls. For
the Greyhounds, Lustrino had three
goals to move within one of 100 for her career while Feinstein and Cordani
each found the back of the cage once. Senior defender Lauren Johnston (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) led Moravian with
five ground balls while Estes had
three ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Abramson added three ground balls, two
caused turnovers and two draw controls while Schantz made 11 saves for the
Greyhounds.

Moravian dropped an 11-8 decision to Wilkes University
in non-conference action at Gillespie Field. The Colonels jumped out to a 3-0
lead in the top of the third inning. Moravian would respond with four runs in
the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. Freshman first baseman Christopher Rue (Homdel, NJ/Holmdel
HS) led off the inning with a double and would score on an RBI single by
freshman catcher Thomas Czarnecki (Clumbia,
NJ/North Warren
HS). Czarnecki
was eventually picked off of first base and with two outs in the inning,
sophomore outfielder Josh Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS) singled.
Sophomore second baseman John Bisco (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS) and junior shortstop Pete Moore (Bogota, NJ/Bogota HS)
followed with back-to-back RBI doubles before senior pitcher/designated
hitter/outfielder Richie Cline (Union
Beach, NJ/Keyport HS) hit an RBI single to score the final run of the
inning. Wilkes would retake the lead with three more runs in the top of the
fourth inning. The Colonels extended their lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth
inning. The Greyhounds tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth inning
on a sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Joseph
Durso (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy HS) that scored Bisco and a
two-RBI double by Czarnecki
to score Moore and Cline. Wilkes retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning with
two runs. Wilkes added a run in the eighth inning, and the Colonels scored
their final run in the top of the ninth inning. The Greyhounds pushed the
game's final run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning on an RBI
ground out by Durso
that scored Bisco,
who had walked to lead off the inning. Moravian had 11 hits in the game with
three each by Cline and Czarnecki and
two off the bat of Moore. Cline started on the mound for the
Greyhounds, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout in four
innings of work. Freshman Brian Davis
(Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) took the loss, allowing three runs, just
two of them earned, on four hits and two walks in three innings of action. Davis
also struck out two batters. Senior John
Howarth (Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS) finished
off the game for Moravian, allowing two runs, just one earned, on three hits
and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings.
The Greyhounds lost to Delaware Valley
College, 22-12, in
non-conference action at Gillespie Field. The Aggies took a 3-0 lead in the top
of the third inning and would then push 11 runs across the plate in the top of
the fourth inning for a 14-0 lead. The Greyhounds would get on the scoreboard
in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Howarth that scored freshman designated hitter Scott Hettinger (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS), and a
sacrifice fly by Bisco that pushed Czarnecki across the plate. Delaware
Valley would add four
runs in the fifth inning, and two each in the sixth and seventh innings to
build a 22-2 lead. Moravian scored three times in the bottom of the seventh
inning. Cline hit an RBI ground rule
double to right centerfield to score freshman second baseman Thomas Murray (Staten Island, NJ/Moore
Catholic HS), and freshman outfielder Eric
Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard HS) followed with a two-RBI single to
score Cline and freshman shortstop Kevin Gambrino
(Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan HS). Cline's
hit was the 100th of his career as he became the 11th player in school history
to reach 100 career hits. The Greyhounds would score once in the bottom of the
eighth inning on an RBI single by Murray that
scored Rue. Moravian would score six
runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull within 22-12. With two outs and the
bases loaded, Rue hit a two-RBI
single to score Cline and Shea. Murray
drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI and to score Czarnecki. Gambrino followed with an RBI
single before Cline drove in the
final two runs, Murray and freshman
outfielder Joseph Principe (Livingston, NJ/Livingston
HS), with an RBI single, his fourth hit of the game and second of the
inning. Moravian had 16 hits in the game with two each from Shea, Czarnecki and Rue in addition to
Cline's four hits. Sophomore Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton HS) suffered
the loss on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing 11 runs, just three of them
earned on seven hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. Junior Josh Hunter (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton HS)
tossed 1 2/3 innings for Moravian, allowing seven runs, just one earned, on
seven hits, while sophomore Matt Kosensky (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central HS) pitched
the final four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and walk with two
strikeouts.
The Greyhounds dropped a 17-5 decision to Messiah College in the first game of a
Commonwealth Conference series at Gillespie Field. The Falcons jumped out to a
2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and led 12-0 before Moravian scored three
runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a three-run homer by Cline, his fourth home run of the year.
After Messiah scored five times in the top of the seventh inning for a 17-3
lead, the Greyhounds scored a run in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice
fly by Baltz which scored Bisco. Moravian
finished off the scoring with an inside-the-park home run by Cline with two outs in the bottom of
the ninth inning. The homer was the 14th of Cline's career, moving him into second all-time at Moravian. The
Greyhounds had eight hits in the game including the two homers by Cline. Messiah pounded out 20 hits
including. Bisco
suffered the loss on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing six runs, just four
of them earned, on nine hits and three walks with two strikeouts in five
innings. Howarth
tossed three innings for Moravian, allowing 11 runs, ten of them earned, on 11
hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Baltz
made his collegiate pitching debut in the ninth, allowing two walks and
striking out one batter.
Moravian's Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Messiah College for Saturday, April 22nd was
postponed until Monday, April 24th due to heavy rain. The first game on Monday
will start at 1:00 p.m. in Grantham.
Moravian canceled its non-conference game at Drew University
for Sunday, April 23rd due to the Rangers needing to make up a Freedom
Conference doubleheader. The game at Drew will not be rescheduled this season.

Moravian competed in the Lafayette College Leopard
Invitational hosted at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania due to
construction at Lafayette.
The Greyhounds had a dual winner in junior Erin Recker (Catasauqua,
PA/Catasauqua HS), who won
the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.46 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 25.51
seconds. Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team placed third in 49.23 seconds.
Senior Rebecca
Moore (Easton, PA/Easton HS) was eighth in the 100-meter dash in 13.43
seconds while freshman Rachelle Elneus (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS) took 11th at 13.65
seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Elneus was eighth in 27.62 seconds while freshman Katarina Birle (Westwood, MA/Westwood
HS) finished 14th in a time of 29.55 seconds. Junior Amy Reehil (Roselle,
NJ/Roselle Catholic
HS) was fifth in the 400-mter hurdles in 1:07.32 while Moore
placed 11th at 1:10.69.
In the distance races, senior Lauren Bahnatka (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) was second in the
3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:21.92 while freshman Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) was
third in 12:27.35. Freshman Kelly
Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack
HS) took seventh place in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:27.49. Junior
Kathleen McCarron
(Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) was third in the triple jump with a distance of
10.23 meters (33 feet, 6 3/4 inches), and she took sixth in the long jump with
a leap of 4.87 meters (15 feet, 11 3/4 inches).

Moravian placed third of 16 schools at the Franklin &
Marshall
College Spring Invitational at the Bent Creek Country Club with a team score of
304. Wesley (DE) College won the tournament with a 299 team total. For the
Greyhounds, junior Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) was second
of the 83 golfers in the tournament with an even par round of 72. Senior Dustin McCormick (East Stroudsburg,
PA/East Stroudsburg HS) and sophomore Bryan Ott (Whitehall,
PA/Whitehall
HS) were each tied for seventh with rounds of 74. Sophomore Eric Whitman (Blairstown,
NJ/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg {PA} HS)
carded an 84 for the Greyhounds, which was tied for 52nd while sophomore Matt Hegarty (Moorestown,
NJ/Moorestown
HS) had an 89 which tied him for 67th.
The Greyhounds placed third of four teams at the annual
Lehigh Valley Tournament, finishing behind NCAA Division I Lehigh University
(393) and Lafayette College (400), and ahead of rival Muhlenberg College by one
stroke with a team score of 406. Bergstol
led the Greyhounds with a round of 78 on the Northampton Country Club course
while McCormick fired a round of 79.
Ott carded an 80 while Whitman had an 18-hole total of 82 for
Moravian. Hegarty and junior Thad Miller (Emmaus,
PA/Emmaus HS) each had rounds of 87 while
junior John Gilbert (Allentown, PA/Freedom
HS) posted a round of 89 for the Greyhounds.
Moravian finished second of 15 schools at the
Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Spring Classic with a team score of 35, six
strokes behind winner Franklin & Marshall
College. McCormick earned medalist honors,
shooting a round of 73 on the par 71 Hershey Country Club East Course. Bergstol tied for second among the 75
golfers with a score of 74 while Ott
was tied for 31st with an 83. Hegarty
carded an 85 for the Greyhounds, which was tied for 43rd, while Whitman had an 18-hole total of 88,
which was tied for 57th.
The Greyhounds were in sixth place of 11 schools after
the first round of the Glenmaura National Collegiate
Invitational being hosted by the University
of Scranton at the Glenmaura National Golf Course. Moravian had a team score
of 318 after the first day while Susquehanna
University and The
College of New Jersey were tied for first with team totals of 310. Individually
for Moravian, Whitman was tied for
tenth with a first round of 77 on the par 72 course. Bergstol was 13th of 58 golfers with a round of 78 while McCormick was tied for 14th with a 79. Hegarty carded a first round 84 for
Moravian to tie for 32nd place while Ott
was disqualified during his round.

Moravian had three individual champions and a relay team finish first at the Lafayette College Leopard
Invitational hosted at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania due to
construction at Lafayette.
Sophomore Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting,
PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh HS) captured first in the
200-meter dash in a time of 22.24 seconds, and he was first in the long jump
with a leap of 6.76 meters (22 feet, 2 1/4 inches). Sophomore Nathaniel Tussey
(Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS) won the 110-meter high
hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 14.69 seconds. Brown and Tussey were also on the
4x100-meter relay team with freshman Robert
Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS) and junior Josh Kline (Reading, PA/Exeter HS) that
placed first in a time of 42.63 seconds.
Tussey
was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.11 seconds while Brown placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.21 seconds. Kline finished third in the 200-meter
dash in a time of 22.49 seconds while Shaffer
was ninth in the 400-meter dash in 54.54 seconds. Freshman Jeff Berland (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock HS)
also ran in the 400-meter dash, placing 13th in 57.29 seconds while freshman Jared Henrie (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley HS) was fourth in the
400-meter hurdles in 1:00.94.
In the distance events, sophomore Timothy Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) placed fourth
in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:12.59 while freshman Timothy Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem
Catholic HS) was 11th in the 800-meter run in 2:01.87. In throwing events,
freshman Blair Maginnis
(Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills
Regional HS) was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.57 meters (44
feet, 6 1/4 inches) while Berland placed 11th at 9.82 meters (32 feet, 2 3/4 inches).
Freshman John Muhlen
(Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) was
tenth in the javelin at 43.04 meters (141 feet, 2 3/4 inches).
On Friday at Lafayette, junior Patrick Callahan (Matawan, NJ/Matawan HS) placed eighth in the
hammer throw with a toss of 39.84 meters (130 feet, 8 3/4 inches) while junior Steve Kondorossy
(Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) finished tenth with a distance of 38.00
meters (124 feet, 8 1/4 inches). Sophomore John
Wagner (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley HS) took 11th in the event with a toss of
37.63 meters (123 feet, 5 3/4 inches) while Maginnis was 13th at 33.99
meters (111 feet, 6 1/2 inches).
