Senior quarterback Jerry
Venturino (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong HS) completed 12 of 19 passes for 226
yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for another score to lead the Moravian College
football team to a 41-17 victory at FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference
action.
FDU took the opening kick off and drove down to the
Moravian 28-yard line when Greyhound freshman linebacker Andrew Morrissey (Emmaus,
PA/Emmaus HS) intercepted a deflected
pass at the five-yard line and returned it to the Moravian 23-yard line. Morrissey
also had five tackles in the game.
The Greyhounds took the lead on a one-yard quarterback
sneak by Venturino to cap a 13-play,
77-yard drive that took 6:34 off the clock. Freshman Brian Reckenbeil (Branchburg,
NJ/Somerville HS) added the
extra-point for a 7-0 Greyhound lead with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter.
After forcing the Devils to punt, the Greyhounds went on
a ten-play, 66-yard drive that Reckenbeil
finished off with a 29-yard field goal, giving Moravian a 10-0 lead with 7:11
left in the first half. The Devils would
score their first points of the game on a 45-yard field goal to cut the
Greyhounds lead to 10-3 with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter.
Moravian scored once again before halftime on a ten yard
pass from Venturino to senior wide
receiver Ben Hawkins (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan
HS) to cap off a nine-play, 79-yard drive.
Reckenbeil added the
extra-point for a 17-3 lead with just 28 seconds remaining before the
intermission. On the reception, Hawkins became the sixth player in
Moravian history to reach the 1,500-yard career receiving plateau. Hawkins
caught six passes for 130 yards in the game to lift his career receiving totals
to 1,513 yards on 75 catches with 15 touchdowns.
The Greyhounds opened the second half with a nine-play,
72-yard drive with Venturino finishing
off the drive with a 34-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Cletus Kilker (Bethlehem, PA/Notre
Dame HS). Reckenbeil’s extra-point
extended Moravian’s lead to 24-3 with 10:23 remaining in the third
quarter. Kilker had two receptions for 46 yards.
After forcing Moravian to punt for the first time in the
game, FDU drove 77 yards in nine plays and scored its first touchdown of the
contest. The extra-point attempt was
blocked by Moravian senior defensive end/punter Corey Czerniak (Randolph,
NJ/Randolph HS) leaving the
score 24-9 with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter. Czerniak
averaged 36.5 yards on two punts.
Each team would punt on their next possession. Moravian would finish off its next drive of
38 yards on just three plays with junior running back Chris Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) finding the end
zone on a 24-yard scamper. Reckenbeil’s extra-point
extended the Greyhounds’ lead back to 22 points at 31-9 with 12:54 remaining in
the game. Jacoubs had 133 yards on 21 carries to become the first player in
school history to surpass 3,500 career yards.
Jacoubs has 3,624 yards on
694 rushing attempts in just 27 career games.
Moravian added three more points on a 25-yard field goal
by Reckenbeil with 9:54 remaining in
the game to give the Greyhounds a 34-9 lead.
On the drive, junior running back Marc
Panepinto (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS) had a 42-yard
carry. Panepinto had a total of 62 yards on five carries as the Greyhounds
had 269 rushing yards on 47 attempts in the game with 11 different players
handling the ball.
FDU would score again on a fourth-and-13 play. The play finished off a nine-play, 77-yard drive,
and the Devils added the two point conversion to cut the score to 34-17 with
6:41 left in the fourth quarter.
The Greyhounds added another score on a 45-yard touchdown
pass from sophomore quarterback Brad
Swartz (Temple, PA/Muhlenberg
HS) to freshman wide receiver Rob
Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS), the
first career touchdown for both players.
Moravian needed just three plays to complete the 50-yard drive. Reckenbeil nailed his fifth extra-point
of the game to give the Greyhounds a 41-17 with 6:02 remaining in the game.
Moravian ended the game with the ball on the FDU two yard
line after driving 35 yards on seven plays.
The Devils had turned the ball over on downs on their final possession.
Senior linebacker Chad DiFelice (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen
Argyl HS) led the Greyhounds with 12 tackles while forcing two fumbles.
Junior linebacker Cliff Garr (Easton,
PA/Notre Dame HS) had eight tackles while
senior defensive back Mario Bevilaqua

Moravian had its ten-match winning streak snapped in a
30-19, 30-14, 12-30, 30-16 loss to nationally-ranked Juniata College
in Commonwealth Conference action. The Eagles entered the match ranked second
in the nation in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division
III Top 25 poll, and Juniata has won 276
consecutive conference matches. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Radocha (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) led
Moravian with 13 kills and seven digs while senior middle hitter Lindsey Siracusa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury
HS) had nine kills and five blocks. Junior outside hitter Kelly Bauer (Hellertown, PA/Notre Dame HS)
contributed eight kills, ten digs and three blocks while junior setter Valerie Korsak
(Coplay, PA/Whitehall HS) had 28 assists, nine digs and three blocks.
Sophomore middle hitter Jenna Wallace (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) added six kills for the Greyhounds while
sophomore libero Christa Burke (Center
Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) had seven digs. Junior outside hitter Jodie Elstner (Center Valley, PA/Southern
Lehigh HS) had two blocks for Moravian while junior defensive specialist Ashley Hugo (Bath,
PA/Northampton
HS) added five digs.
Moravian suffered its second straight loss, falling to
Colby (ME) College, 30-13, 28-30, 31-29, 25-30, 15-11
in the opening round of the 24th annual Green Terror Invitational hosted by McDaniel College. Siracusa led the Greyhounds with 15 kills, nine blocks and three
service aces while Bauer had 12
kills and 12 digs. Korsak
contributed 33 assists, seven digs, four kills, three blocks and a pair of
service aces while Radocha had eight
kills, six digs and two service aces. Wallace
added six kills and five blocks while Hugo,
sophomore defensive specialist Elise
Martin (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus
HS) and freshman setter Stephanie Struble (Hampton,
NJ/Voorhees HS) each had six
digs. Burke had five digs in the
match while sophomore right side hitter Katherine
Perkins (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton HS) added two kills, three
blocks and three digs.
The Greyhounds were swept for the first time this season,
falling to Salisbury (MD) University 30-22, 30-28, 30-24 in the team's second
match on the first day of the 24th Annual Green Terror Invitational. The loss
was Moravian's third straight after a ten-match winning streak. Siracusa led the Greyhounds with 12
kills. Bauer added ten kills, seven
digs, two blocks and two service aces while Korsak had 29 assists, three
service aces and five digs. Wallace
contributed eight kills and a pair of blocks while Radocha had six kills and five digs. Perkins had dour kills while Struble and Hugo each had seven
digs in the match. Freshman outside hitter Elisa
Molchany (North Catasauqua,
PA/Catasauqua HS) added five digs.
Moravian dropped its fourth straight match, falling to
the College of Notre Dame (MD) 24-30, 31-29, 30-23, 26-30, 15-13 in the team's
first match in the Gold Division. Bauer led
Moravian with 17 kills, 12 digs and two service aces while Siracusa added 14 kills and five blocks as she became just the
second player in school history with 1,500 kills. Korsak added 52 assists, 12 digs, four kills and four service aces while Radocha had 12 kills, ten digs and a
pair of service aces. Wallace added
ten kills while Perkins had four
kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Elise
Martin (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) had seven digs while Hugo had six digs for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds snapped a four-match losing streak and Siracusa became Moravian's all-time
leader in kills as the team defeated host McDaniel College,
35-33, 30-17, 23-30, 30-23 in the final match of tournament . Siracusa had 18 kills in the match to
improve her career total to 1,520 kills, surpassing Kim Zipf's previous school record of
1,516. Siracusa also had five blocks
in the victory. Radocha added 12
kills while Bauer had 11 kills and
15 digs. Korsak
contributed 45 assists, seven kills, seven digs and five blocks while Wallace had six kills and two blocks. Perkins added three kills while Struble had five digs.

Moravian remained undefeated in Commonwealth Conference
action and won its tenth match of the year with a 2-0 shutout of Elizabethtown College in a conference contest on the
HUB Quad. This is the eighth time in the 12 years of the program that Moravian
has won at least ten matches in a season. The Greyhounds would score the only
goal of the match they needed in the 34th minute when freshman defender Alexandra Frascella
(Chatham, NJ/Chatham
HS) tapped in a low driven corner kick by senior forward Megan Collins (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Caesar
Rodney HS) for her third goal of the season. Moravian added an insurance
goal in the 69th minute when sophomore midfielder Allison Solomita (Chatham NJ/Chatham
HS) found the bottom right corner of the net for her first goal of the year
off a crossing pass by Collins. Both
teams had nine shots in the match while Elizabethtown
had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Moravian freshman goalie Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie,
PA/Pennridge HS) made five
saves, including three in the final ten minutes, for her fifth shutout of the
season.
The Greyhounds won their seventh match of the season by
shutout, blanking Delaware
Valley College,
3-0, in non-conference action. Moravian would score the only goal it needed in
the 17th minute when Collins netted
her 11th goal of the year and her fifth game-winning goal off a pass by junior
midfielder Alisha Davy (Oaklyn,
NJ/Haddon Township HS). Davy
would also set up the Greyhounds' second goal of the match when junior forward Kristina Adams (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery
HS) found the back of the net with her third goal of the season in the 63rd
minute. Freshman forward Tracy
Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point
Regional HS) finished off the scoring for the Greyhounds with her sixth
goal of the year, an unassisted tally in the 76th minute. Moravian had a 17-10
advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Greyhounds’ sophomore goalie
Kelly Wight (Port Murray, NJ/West Morris
Central HS) had eight saves for her first career shutout in just her first
start of the season.
Moravian suffered its first loss of the season in
Commonwealth Conference action, falling to the top-ranked team in the nation, Messiah College, 3-1. The Falcons, ranked first
in the nation in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top
25 Poll, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. The Greyhounds tied the
match a minute later when Fitzpatrick scored
an unassisted goal, her seventh goal of the season. Messiah needed just one
minute to retake the lead, and the Falcons got an insurance goal in the 66th
minute when Moravian's defense put the ball in its own net for an own goal.
Messiah had a 24-6 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. Corrigan made 12 saves in the match.

Moravian placed seventh of 23 schools
at the DeSales University Invitation in the team's final tune-up before the
2005 Middle Atlantic Conference Champions. The Greyhounds had a team
score of 225 points while NCAA Division II Kutztown University won the meet
with 33 points. Senior Lauren Bahnatka (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) led
Moravian with a 30th place finish in a time of 27:00.81 on the 6,000-meter
course. Freshman Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor
Mifflin HS) placed 47th of the 245 runners in 27:32.89. Sophomore Krystyn Fenon (Palmerton, PA/Lehighton
HS) took 57th place in a time of 27:45.03 while senior Alexis Vergalla (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees HS) was 58th in
27:47.88. Freshman Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) took 77th in 28:30.84 while sophomore Nicole Sirico (Milford,
PA/Delaware
Valley HS) placed
83rd in a time of 28:36.99. Rounding out the Moravian competitors were senior Ellen Hansen (Alburtis,

Top seeded Moravian earned its 12th consecutive trip to
the conference championship match with their tenth straight win of the 2005
season, defeating fourth seed Lebanon Valley College,
7-2, in a Commonwealth Conference Semifinal match played at Lehigh University's
indoor courts due to weather. Moravian led 2-1 after the doubles matches with
victories by the team of freshmen Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville
HS) and MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional
HS) and the junior duo of Courtney
Hall (Denver, PA/Cocalico
HS) and Margo Kokolus (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS). The Greyhounds then captured five of
six singles matches in straight sets for the victory. Earning wins in singles
action were Kelly, seniors Katie Cooke (Milford,
PA/Delaware
Valley HS) and Nicole Gruber (Lebanon,
PA/Lebanon
HS) and sophomores Brittany Popaca (Lavallette, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach
HS) and Jennel Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua
HS).
The top seeded Greyhounds fell to second seeded Elizabethtown College, 8-1, in the 2005 Commonwealth
Conference Championship match at Hoffman Courts. The Greyhounds', who were competing in their
12th consecutive conference championship match, only win of the match came at
third singles on a straight sets victory by Popaca.

The Greyhounds trip to the
Muhlenberg College Fall Tournament has been postponed due to wet grounds at the
Lehigh Country Club in Allentown.
The tournament has been rescheduled for Monday, October 24th at 11:00 a.m.
Moravian finished in a tie for ninth
place with Franklin & Marshall
College and SUNY Delhi at 325 after
the first day of the Nike Collegiate Classic being hosted by McDaniel College
at the Ocean Pines Country Club in Ocean
City, Maryland. Washington & Jefferson College leads the tournament with a team
score of 302. Three golfers are tied for first place after rounds of 73 on the
par 72 course.
The Greyhounds placed 11th of 14 schools at
the two-day Nike Collegiate Classic hosted by McDaniel
College at the Ocean Pines Country
Club in Ocean City. Allegheny College
won the tournament with a two-day total score of 607 while the Gators Chris
Moore fired rounds of 73 and 73 on the par 72 course to win the individual
title by two strokes. Moravian finished
with a two-day team total of 658. Junior Brian
Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) paced the Greyhounds with a two-day
score of 151 after rounds of 78 and 73 while senior Dustin McCormick (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg HS) had a
156 with rounds of 79 and 77. Junior Thad Miller (Emmaus,
PA/Emmaus HS) had rounds of 77 and 91 to
post a score of 168 for the tournament while sophomore Bryan Ott (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) had a
two-day total of 183 after rounds of 91 and 92.
Sophomore Brian Scofield (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills
Regional HS) had an 18-hole total of 97 each day for a total score of 194.

Fall Season Complete
The Greyhounds have completed the
fall portion of their schedule. Moravian will return to action during spring
break with a trip to Orlando,
Florida in early March.

Moravian dropped its second straight match, falling to
Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-1, in non-conference action at Betty Prince
Field. The Ducks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. The Greyhounds
tied the match just two minutes later when sophomore midfielder Mauri Dallago (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS)
netted her first goal of the season off an assist from senior forward Stacee Cupples (Allentown,
PA/Allentown
Central Catholic HS). Stevens Tech retook the lead with a goal in the 28th
minute. The Ducks scored the only goal of the second half in the 55th minute.
The Ducks had a 20-9 advantage in shots and a 15-4 edge in penalty corners.

Moravian dropped a 6-1 decision to top-ranked Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference
action. The Falcons, ranked first in the country in the latest National Soccer
Coaches Association of America Top 25 Poll, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth
minute. Messiah added goals in the 10th minute, the 21st minute
and the 32nd minute in the first half. The Falcons also found the
back of the net in the 65th minute and in the 84th minute
on a goal. Moravian's lone goal was

Catholic HS), his first collegiate goal, off an assist by senior defender Casey Hoffman (Kempton,

HS) in the 89th minute. Messiah had a 27-2 advantage in shots
and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Moravian senior goalie Ryan Walker (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen
HS) played the first half of the match, making 11 saves, while senior
keeper Ian Andrew Nuno (Middletown,

HS) paced Moravian with a 27th place finish on the 8,000-meter course in a
time of 28:47.81, which was 27th of the 233 competitors. Sophomore Tim Pagano (Cherry Hill,
NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) placed 77th in
29:50.65 while senior William Shimer (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) took 96th
place in a time of 30:25.74. Junior Anthony
Sarno (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township HS) finished 107th at 30:43.87 while
freshman Jeremiah Reinhart (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) took 117th place in
30:56.56. Freshman Tim Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS)
rounded out the Moravian runners with a 161st place finish in a time of
32:30.92.
