Women’s Basketball – 8-1

The Greyhounds are in the midst of a three-week break
prior to returning to action on Wednesday, January 4th in a
non-conference home game with
Men’s Basketball – 2-7
(Commonwealth Conference 0-2, MASCAC 1-4)
Moravian dropped an 80-66 non-conference decision at Kean
University of New Jersey in the team's final game before a three-week break for
the holidays. The Cougars had a 33-23 halftime lead after jumping out to a 10-0
edge in the first three and a half minutes of the game. The Greyhounds did pull
within 23-21 with three minutes before the intermission, but Kean finished the
half with a 10-2 run. In the second half, Moravian would get as close as four
points at 39-35 with just over 15 minutes to play before Kean built a 19-point lead. Moravian struggled from the field in
the first half and shot just 32.1 percent (18 of 56) for the game. The
Greyhounds did shoot 84.6 percent from the foul line, making 22 of 26 free
throw attempts, and Moravian also made eight three-pointers in the game.
However, Moravian committed 19 turnovers and was out-rebounded 37-31. Kean had
a hot hand from the field as a team, making 32 of 56 (57.1 percent) of its
field goal attempts. The Greyhounds had three players in double figures led by
a career high 15 points from sophomore guard Ryan Miller (

Women’s Volleyball – 21-10
(Commonwealth Conference 4-3, MASCAC 9-4)
Siracusa, a middle blocker, had 375
kills this season. Siracusa, who was
on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-America
Squad in 2004 and 2005, also contributed 59 digs, 42 service aces, 112 blocks,
14 assists, and a .288 hitting percentage.
Siracusa was a member of the Commonwealth
All-Conference Second Team as a freshman in 2002, as well as a member of the
All-Conference First Team in 2004 and 2005.
She was also a member of the AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team a year
ago and was on the AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention Squad in 2002.
Siracusa became the fifth player in
Moravian history to reach the 1,000 career kill plateau, and she had a
four-year total of 1,553 kills, a Moravian record. She added 420 blocks (second
all-time), 326 digs, 150 service aces and 50 assists. Moravian completed the 2005 season with a
21-10 record and competed in the conference postseason tournament for the ninth
time in ten years.

The
The Moravian football team had 13 honorees, while the
women’s tennis team had eight. The men’s soccer team and field hockey team each
had seven members of their team honored, the women’s volleyball team have six,
and the women’s cross country team had five athletes honored. The women’s
soccer had four honorees and men’s cross country had two members on the MASCAC
Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Leading the selections from the football team, which
posted a 7-4 record and won the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference
Southwest Bowl Championship, were junior wide receiver Shawn Martell
(Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and senior quarterback Jerry
Venturino (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong HS). Martell
scored four touchdowns this season, with 434 receiving yards on 26 receptions
while Venturino completed 112 of 233 pass attempts for 1,705
yards and 15 touchdowns, and Venturino also scored five
rushing touchdowns. Junior running back Marc Panepinto (

(Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS), quarterback Bradley Swartz (Temple, PA/Muhlenberg HS), defensive back Matthew Sheridan (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling HS),
and tight end David Mann (Portsmouth,
NH/Portsmouth HS).
