Fifth-ranked Moravian swept a non-conference doubleheader
from visiting Eastern
University, 10-1 and 8-0,
both in five innings at Blue & Grey Field.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second
inning of the first game. Senior outfielder Justina Black (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS) had an RBI single to score senior
designated player Danielle Carrione (Bloomfield,
NJ/Mt. St.
Dominic HS), who had singled with two outs. Senior first
baseman Lauren Homa (Chalfont,
PA/Central Bucks West HS) followed with an RBI single to score Black. The Eagles would get a run in
the top of the third inning. Moravian
answered with two runs in the bottom of the third innings to build a 4-1 lead.
Sophomore outfielder Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) singled with two outs and junior third
baseman Kelly Santry (Hatboro,
PA/Upper Moreland HS) walked before
sophomore catcher Deanna Mangieri (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills HS) had a two-RBI double. The Greyhounds
pushed six runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to
institute the NCAA eight-run rule. Black
led off the inning with a walk and eventually moved to third on a two-out
single by sophomore outfielder Erica
Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS). Junior second baseman Beth Paly (Whitehall,
PA/Whitehall
HS) drew a walk to load the bases before an RBI single by freshman pinch
hitter Chrissy McGlinn (Lansdale, PA/Gwynedd
Mercy HS) hit an RBI single. Santry
followed with a grand slam home run to straight away center field, Santry's first
home run of the season. Mangieri hit
a single and freshman pinch hitter Danielle
Massa (Livingston, NJ/Livingston
HS) was hit by a pitch before an RBI double by senior outfielder Rebecca DeJulio (Vineland, NJ/Sacred
Heart HS) score Mangieri with
the final run of the game. The Greyhounds had 11 hits in the contest with two
each by Klepeisz and Mangieri. Sophomore Kristie
Pellicani (Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS) improved
to 13-3 in the circle for Moravian, allowing a run on one hits and four walks
while striking out seven. In the second
game, DeBonis tossed her first
collegiate no-hitter with nine strikeouts and just a leadoff walk in the first
inning. DeBonis, who struck out nine
batters, tossed her 11th shutout of the season to improve to 14-2 on the year. DeBonis
received all of the offense she would need in the bottom of the first inning.
Sophomore outfielder Jordan Oplinger
(Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) led off with a single before Klepeisz hit a home run off the right
field foul pole for a 2-0 Greyhound lead. Moravian added three runs in the bottom of the
second inning. Sophomore second baseman Katie
Agnew (Doylestown, PA/Lansdale Catholic HS) hit a sacrifice fly to score
junior outfielder Megan Ritchey
(Boyertown, PA/Boyertown HS), who had reached on an error. DeJulio had also reached on an error
before Agnew's fly ball and
eventually scored on a passed ball. After DeJulio
scored, Oplinger singled and crossed
the plate on an RBI double by Paly. The Greyhounds would institute the NCAA
eight-run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning with three more runs. McGlinn led off the inning with a
single and Massa followed with a single. After two
fly outs, Ritchey connected on her
first home run of the season to left field to end the game. Moravian had nine
hits with two each by Ritchey and Oplinger.
The Greyhounds swept a Commonwealth Conference
doubleheader at Messiah College, 6-2 and 7-1, to close out the 2007 regular
season at 29-5 overall and 13-1 in the team’s final Commonwealth Conference
season. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead
in the top of the first inning when Klepeisz
led of the game with a solo home run, her third homer of the season and
week. Messiah answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the
score. The Falcons would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. The
Greyhounds responded two innings later with three runs in the top of the sixth
inning. With one out, Paly tied the
contest with a solo home run, her third of the season. Carrione hit a two-RBI single
later in the inning to score junior catcher Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper
Moreland HS) and sophomore designated player Maria DeBonis (Nazareth,
PA/Notre Dame HS). Moravian
would add two more runs to its lead in the top of the seventh inning on a
two-out, two-run homer by Paly that
score Klepeisz, who had singled.
Moravian had ten hits in the game with Klepeisz
going three-for-four and Paly and Santry each collecting two hits. Pellicani improved to 14-3 in the
circle with the victory, allowing two runs on six hits and six walks with two
strikeouts. Megan Rice suffered the loss for the Falcons despite striking out
four batters and not allowing a walk. In
the second game, Moravian scored all seven of its runs in the top of the first
inning. Klepeisz hit a single to
lead off the game before Homa
reached on an error. Paly drew a
walk before an RBI single by DeBonis
plated Klepeisz. Homa also scored on the play on an
error in the Messiah outfield. DeBonis
scored on an RBI single by Carrione before Ritchey
connected on a grand slam home run to clear the bases. The homer was Ritchey's second in three games. The
Falcons would score their lone run of the game in the bottom of the second
inning. Moravian has 12 hits in the game with two each by Carrione and Santry while Messiah was limited to six
hits with two by Lindsay Hall. DeBonis
improved to 15-2 in the circle this season for the Greyhounds, allowing a run
on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Rebecca Croft suffered the loss
for Messiah, lasting just a third of an inning but allowing all seven runs.

The Greyhounds won their second straight game with a
14-5 non-conference win versus DeSales
University at Limeport Stadium. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in
the bottom of the first inning. Moravian would cut the lead in half in the top
of the second inning on an RBI single by freshman designated hitter David Lengyel
(Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) which scored sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso
(Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy), who had led off the inning with
a walk. The Greyhounds would take the lead for good with seven runs in the top
of the fourth inning for an 8-1 lead. Senior catcher Colin Welles (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere HS) led off the inning with a
doubled and back to back singles by Lengyel and sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) pushed
Welles across the plate with the
tying run. Sophomore outfielder Eric
Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard HS)followed with an RBI single to score Lengyel, and
sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan HS) had an RBI
single to score McCarthy. After a
pitching change and a strikeout, freshman second baseman Michael Zubia (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem
Catholic HS) reached on a fielding error by DeSales loaded the bases.
Senior shortstop Pete Moore (Bogota, NJ/Bogota HS ripped a
two-RBI single to score Shea and Gambrino and an
error on the Bulldog pitcher allowed Zubia to score. Durso drove in Moore with the
final run on the inning on an RBI double. The double was Durso's 13th of the season,
tying the school record. The Greyhounds nearly doubled their lead an inning
later in the top of the fifth inning with six more runs for a 14-1 advantage. Shea tripled to lead off the inning and
scored on an RBI single by Gambrino. After Gambrino was out on a fielder's choice by Zubia, Moore hit
an RBI single with an error in the outfield that allowed junior outfielder Josh Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS), who
had drawn a walk, and Zubia
to score. The hit was Moore's school record 50th of the season and
raised his school record career total to 168. Durso hit an RBI single to score
Moore
before Shea capped off the inning
with a two-RBI single to score Welles
and Lengyel.
The Bulldogs would get a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and
DeSales added a run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Moravian pounded out 17
hits in the game with Lengyel
leading the team with a four-for-five performance. Gambrino and Shea each collected three hits while Moore and Durso each had two hits for the
Greyhounds. Moravian freshman pitcher Ryan
Cummings (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East HS) improved to 3-3 on the mound
this season, allowing two runs, just one of them earned, on seven hits and
three walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Junior Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton HS) tossed 1 2/3 innings of
scoreless relief with a hit and a strikeout for the Greyhounds while freshman Brett Connor (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS)
allowed three runs on a pair of hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings.
Sophomore Thomas Murray (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic HS)
finished off the game for Moravian recording the final two outs while allowing
two hits.
Moravian won its final non-conference game of the
season, defeating Arcadia
University, 8-4, in a
contest shortened to six innings due to field conditions at Gillespie Field.
The game was played in a steadily increasing rain and the umpires deemed the
mound unplayable with the Greyhounds at the plate with two runners on base and
two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Knights jumped out to a 2-0
lead in the top of the first inning. The Greyhounds responded with four runs in
the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-2 lead. Durso had an RBI single to score Zubia, who had reached on a fielder's choice after Baltz led off the inning with a single.
With two outs, McCarthy hit an RBI
single to score Moore, who had
singled. Sophomore designated hitter Christopher
Rue (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel
HS) followed with an RBI single to score Durso while freshman outfielder Andrew DeLio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany
HS) had an RBI single to score McCarthy
as Rue was thrown out at the plate
on the play to end the inning. Arcadia
tied the contest in the top of the fourth inning. Moravian answered again in the bottom half of
the inning on an RBI single by Baltz
to score DeLio,
who had singled. The hit was Baltz's 100th of his career as be becomes the 12th player in
school history to reach 100 career hits. The Greyhounds extended their lead to
7-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Rue to right field with freshman
catcher Brad Bodine (Mt. Bethel,
PA/Bangor HS) scoring on the hit. The homer was the first of Rue's collegiate career. Moravian would get a run in the bottom of the
sixth inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Bodine
scored Zubia
before the umpires called the contest. Moravian had 13 hits in the
rain-shortened game with Baltz, Moore,
Rue and DeLio each having two hits. Freshman pitcher Philip Spence (Lafayette, NJ/Newton HS) earned his first collegiate
victory on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing four runs on six hits and a
walk with three strikeouts in six innings.
The Greyhounds split their final doubleheader of the
2007 season, falling to Elizabethtown
College, 9-1, in the
first game of the Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, and winning the second
game, 6-2. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0
lead in the top of the first inning of the first game. Moore reached on a fielder's choice and then
scored on Durso's school record 14th double of the
season. However, that would be the only
run that Moravian scored in the contest. The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead in the
bottom of the first inning. Elizabethtown
added a run on the bottom of the second inning, and the Blue Jays struck twice
in the third inning. Elizabethtown
got two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and another two runs in the
sixth inning. The Greyhounds were limited to just six hits with three by Durso, including
a pair of doubles to give him 15 on the season. Junior Trevor Lawrence (Lansford, PA/Marian Catholic HS) took the loss for
Moravian, allowing seven runs on ten hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings with one
strikeout. Stout allowed a run on
two hits in a third of an inning for the Greyhounds while freshman Zachary Andes (Moscow,
PA/North Pocono
HS) gave up a run on a hit in a third of an inning. Freshman Joe Melchionna
(Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney HS) finished the
game, allowing one hits in 2/3 of an inning for Moravian. In the second game, the Greyhounds took a 1-0
lead in the top of the third inning went Moore reached
on an error that allowed Baltz to
score. Moravian added four runs in the top of the fifth inning to build a 5-0
lead. Moore hit a sacrifice fly to score Baltz with the first run of the inning
before Welles connected on a bases loaded, three-RBI double, Welles' tenth double of the season. The Greyhounds made their lead
6-0 in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Moore
that scored Gambrino.
The double was Moore's
school record 34th of his career. Elizabethtown
pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Each
team had nine hits in the game with Baltz
and Zubia each having two hits for the
Greyhounds. Freshman pitcher Christopher Morrison (Middlesex,
NJ/Immaculata HS) evened his record at 3-3 on the mound for Moravian,
allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in
five-plus innings of action. Freshman Andrew
DelRossi (Medford, NJ/Bishop Eustace HS) allowed
two walks, a hit and a strikeout in two-third of an inning of action while
freshman Brandon Palmsiano
(Mountainhome, PA/St. Pius X HS) finished the
game for the Greyhounds, striking out one batter in 1 1/3 innings.
Moravian closed out the 2007 season with a 5-0
shutout of Elizabethtown
College in Commonwealth
Conference action at Gillespie Field. Moravian senior pitcher Josh Hunter (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton HS)
tossed his first collegiate complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and
two walks while striking out six batters in his final collegiate game. Hunter, who improved to 2-1 for the
season, had a no-hitter through five innings before a bunt single to lead off
the sixth inning. Hunter faced just
four batters over the minimum with the help of a double player and a Blue Jay
runner caught stealing. Moravian gave Hunter all the offense he needed in the
bottom of the third inning with an RBI single by Gambrino which scored Shea, who
had doubled to lead off the inning. The Greyhounds added a run in the bottom of
the sixth inning on an RBI double by Welles
that scored Moore. Moravian would add three insurance runs in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Baltz hit
a two-RBI double down the left field line to score Shea and Andes.
DeLio came in to pinch run for Baltz and after a single by junior
second baseman John Bisco
(Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS), DeLio scored on a sacrifice fly by Moore. The RBI was Moore's school record 39th of the season,
and he also finished with a school record .396 batting average for the season
on 53 hits in 134 at-bats. Moore's run in the sixth inning was his 36th
of the season, tying the mark set by Dick Schartz
back in 1957. The Greyhounds had ten hits in the contest with two each by Baltz, which were both doubles, and Shea.

The Greyhounds finished fourth at the Glenmaura
National Collegiate Invitational hosted by The University of Scranton at Glenmaura National Golf Course in Moosic. The Greyhounds
had a two-day total of 633 while Susquehanna
University won the
tournament with a two-day score of 584. Moravian senior Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) tied for second of 59
golfers with a second round of 72 on the par 71 course for a two-day score of
145. Freshman Steve Labiak
(Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) had an 18-hole total of 86 on the second
day to shot 162 for the tournament, which tied for 27th, while senior Thad Miller (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus
HS) also tied for 27th after a second round of 83. Freshman Alan Kliewer (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata HS) fired
a second round score of 82 to tie for 38th with a two-day total of 166 while
junior Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre
Dame East Stroudsburg {PA} HS) was tied for 44th at 170 after a second
round of 88.
Moravian, the defending Commonwealth Conference Champion,
was in second place after 27 holes on the first day of the 2007 Commonwealth
Conference Championship at the Shawnee Golf Course. The Greyhounds had a team
total of 452, just seven strokes behind Susquehanna University's
team leading 445. The golfers played each of Shawnee's nine-hole,
par 36 courses during the first day. Bergstol,
the defending Commonwealth Conference Individual Champion, shot a three-under
par 105 and is currently first of 35 golfers. Bergstol had a four-stroke lead. Sophomore Matt Hegarty (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) is
in a seven-way tie for third at 112 for the Greyhounds while Whitman was tied for 11th with an
opening day score of 115. Labiak turned in
a 120, which is tied for 19th, in his first conference championship experience
while Miller is tied for 23rd at
122.
The Greyhounds placed second of seven schools at the 2007
Commonwealth Conference Championships played at the Shawnee Country Club.
Moravian had a team score of 915 in the two-day, 54-hole tournament while Susquehanna University won the team title with a
score of 881. Bergstol did defend
his individual championship, placing first for the second straight year with a
five-under par total of 211. Bergstol,
who earned the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year award for the second
consecutive season, had a second day total of 106, which was two-under par as
the 35 golfers each played the three nine-hole courses at Shawnee. Bergstol also earns a spot on the
Commonwealth All-Conference First Team for finishing in the top five. Whitman earned a position on the
Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team with a two-day score of 228, which
placed him ninth. Whitman fired a
113 in the second day of competition. Hegarty
was 15th in the tournament with a score of 235 after a second day score of
123 while Miller was tied for 23rd
at 243 after posting a 121 over the final 27 holes. Labiak was tied for 29th at 247 with a 127 on the second day.
Women’s Tennis – 14-2

The Greyhounds earned their first win of the spring
season and improved to 13-2 overall with a 5-4 victory at rival Muhlenberg College in non-conference action.
Moravian led 2-1 after the doubles action with a victory by the team of junior Jennel Yelito (Tamaqua,
PA/Tamaqua HS) and sophomore Dyana Swan (Branchburg,
PA/Somerville HS) and a win by the team of
senior Courtney Hall (Denver,
PA/Cocalico HS) and junior Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex
HS) when the Muhlenberg doubles squad they were playing retired. The
Greyhounds captured the bottom three singles flights to earn the victory.
Junior Rebecca Angstadt
(Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS) won in
straight sets at sixth singles while sophomore MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional HS) won at fourth
singles. Yelito captured the match
for Moravian with a third set tiebreaker win in her fifth singles contest.
Moravian won its final match of the 2007 season,
defeating NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, 8-1, in
non-conference action. In the match against the Warriors, Moravian had a 2-1
lead after doubles with win by the team of Hall
and Hopper. The Greyhound duo of Yelito and Swan would win by forfeit. In singles action, Moravian swept all
six contests with Yelito, Angstadt, Kelly and junior Brittany Popaca (Lavallette, NJ/Point
Pleasant Beach
HS) each winning in straight sets. Hall
and Swan each needed three sets to
earn their victories.

Moravian dropped its final non-conference and road
contest of the 2007 season, falling to future Landmark Conference rival Goucher
College, 8-2. The Gophers
led 3-0 after the first quarter and at the intermission, and Goucher had a 6-2 lead after 45 minutes of action. The
Gophers had a 47-18 advantage in shots and a 43-30 advantage in ground balls
while Moravian won nine of 12 face-offs. Sophomore attack Christopher Danni (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) and freshman midfielder Cruz Sierra (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern
Regional HS) each had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds. Sierra also had a team high seven
ground balls while senior midfielder T.J.
Hirsch (Putnum
Valley,, NY/Walter
Panas HS) contributed five ground balls and won eight of 11 face-offs. Moravian
sophomore goalie Benjamin Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS) made 17
saves in the match.
The Greyhounds closed out the 2007 season with a 19-6
loss Messiah College in a Middle Atlantic Conference
match at Rocco Calvo Field. The Falcons scored the first five goals of the
contest and led 8-1 after 15 minutes. Messiah had a 13-2 advantage at halftime,
and both schools scored just once for a 14-3 Falcon lead heading in the final
quarter. Messiah held a 38-33 advantage in shots and a 40-33 edge in ground balls
while Moravian won 15 of 27 face-offs. Sophomore attack Jason Tosches (West Windsor, NJ/West
Windsor-Plainsboro South HS) scored a pair of goals for the Greyhounds,
including Moravian's first of the game on a man-down situation. Hirsch had a goal in a man-up
opportunity and two assists while winning 15 of 23 face-offs and scooping up a
game high 16 ground balls. Hirsch
completes his career with school records 366 ground balls and 464 face-off wins
in 866 attempts. Senior attack Daniel
Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS), sophomore attack Keith Danner (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland HS)
and sophomore midfielder Andrew
Miranda (Schnecksville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) each found the
back of the cage once for the Greyhounds while senior midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic
HS) had an assist in his final collegiate match. Benjamin Larson played 54 minutes in goal with 13 saves and seven
ground balls, and he moved to attack for the final six minutes to play
alongside his older brother Daniel as the duo played their final match
together. Freshman keeper David Crawford
(Asbury, NJ/North Hunterdon HS) played the final six minutes for
Moravian with one save.

Moravian won its final home match of the season,
defeating local rival DeSales
University, 8-1, at Hoffman
Courts. The game was moved up a day due to expected weather on April 25th. The
Greyhounds swept the doubles action for a 3-0 lead with victories by the teams
of freshman Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The
Rivers School) and senior Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS), senior Scott Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) and sophomore Lee Gustin
(Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) and sophomores Keith Feinman (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield
HS) and Jeremiah Reinhart (Effort,
PA/Pleasant Valley HS). Moravian would also win five of six singles matches
with straight sets wins by Box, Caniga, Sheblo and Reinhart and a three-set win by Feinman.
Moravian had four of six individuals and one of three
doubles teams move past the quarterfinals as well at the 2007 Middle Atlantic
States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Individual Tournament in Wilkes-Barre. Three
Greyhounds were seeded in the tournament and received byes in the first round
of the singles tournament. In other first round action, Shelbo defeated Andrew Symonette of Susquehanna, 6-0, 6-2 at third singles while Reinhart rallied for a three set
victory over James Dombach from Elizabethtown, 3-6,
6-2, 1-0 (12-10) in sixth singles. Gustin was the only Greyhound to be knocked out in the first
round, falling to Alex Jaslow of Drew, 6-1, 6-3, at
fifth season. In quarterfinal action,
second singles top seed Caniga
defeated Ryan Knarr of Elizabethtown, 6-2, 6-1 while fourth singles

earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ben Grassi
of Susquehanna to advance to the semifinals. Box was seeded third at top singles and moved into the semifinals
with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Adam Geiger of FDU-Florham. Reinhart would also advance to the semifinals in the sixth singles
bracket with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Shawn Becker from Lebanon Valley.
Shelbo was
knocked out of the third singles flight with a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) by Jason
Woods of Drew. In doubles action, the
tandem of Box and Caniga were
seeded second in the first doubles flight and had a first round bye. Shelbo and Gustin were
knocked out of the second doubles bracket in the first round with an 8-6 loss
to Blake Bonser and Dvid Boe from King's while Feinman and Reinbart lost to Andrew Voshell and Dombach from
Elizabethtown, 8-5. Box and Caniga would
move into the semifinals with an 8-1 victory over Michael Byerly
and John Stuztman of Lycoming.
The Greyhounds had their four remaining singles
players and doubles squad knocked out in the semifinals on the second day of
the 2007 MASCAC Individual Tournament. Box
fell to top seed Mike Portonova of King'a College, 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals of first singles
while Caniga
lost to fourth seeded Alex Bruin of FDU-Florham, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) at
second singles. Feinman
fell to Andrew Voshell from Elizabethtown, 6-3, 6-1 in fourth singles
while Reinhart fell to top seeded
Michael Kennedy of Drew, 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth singles flight. In doubles action, Box and Caniga

Season Complete
Moravian had its two-match winning streak snapped in a
17-5 loss at FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The contest was
moved up one day ahead of the scheduled date of April 24th because of a
conflict on the FDU-Florham campus. The Devils led 11-2 at halftime and
finished the contest with a 37-12 advantage in shots, a 13-10 edge in ground
balls and a 17-7 advantage in draw controls. The Greyhounds had five different
players score a goal with senior attack Lindsey
Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan
HS), junior midfielder Casey Simpson
(Laporte, PA/Sullivan County HS),
freshman midfielder Paige Warbrick (Souderton, PA/Souderton HS) and freshmen attack Kayla Carson (Wyomissing,
PA/Wyomissing HS) and Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council
Rock North HS) each scoring once. Junior midfielder Robyn Klem (Allentown,
PA/Allentown
Central Catholic HS) had a team high three ground balls for Moravian while Klem and
Lustrino each had two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Greyhound
freshman goalie Katie Wise (Ardsley, PA/Abington
HS) had 13 saves in the contest.
The Greyhounds dropped its final non-conference match of
the season, falling to Centenary (NJ) College, 16-15 in overtime, on the HUB
Quad. Moravian scored first but the Cyclones scored the next three goals for a
3-1 lead. The Greyhounds responded to build a 5-4 advantage and the teams were
tied at 7-7 at the intermission. In the second half, neither team could take
more than a two-goal lead with Moravian scoring with just over a minute left in
regulation on a goal by Warbrick to tie the score at 14-14 and force
overtime. Centenary scored two quick goals in the six-minute overtime session
while the Greyhounds could score just once. The Cyclones had a 43-41 advantage
in shots and a 19-15 edge in draw controls while Moravian had a slight 33-31
edge in ground balls. Simpson led
the Greyhounds in scoring with a career high four goals to go with an assist. Lustrino and junior midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) each had hat tricks for Moravian while
Warbrick
and Carson each contributed two
goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Lynda
Kauffman (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester HS) and Pagliei (each found the back of the cage once
for the Greyhounds while Klem had an
assist. Spatz
led Moravian with four draw controls while freshman midfielder Kelly Daly (Howell, NJ/Monsignor
Donovan HS) had five ground balls. Wise
made 14 saves in the match, and she had a team high six ground balls.
Moravian closed out its 2007 season with a 21-9 loss at
King's College in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The Monarchs held a 14-7
advantage on the scoreboard at halftime, and King's had a 41-26 edge in shots,
a 21-19 advantage in ground balls and a 21-14 edge in draw controls. Lustrino had four goals and an assist
in her final collegiate match to lead the Greyhounds. Lustrino finishes her career with school records of 164 goals, 20
assists and 184 points, and she had three ground balls in the match against
King's to tie the school career record with 169. Simpson and Carson (each had two goals in the match for the Greyhounds while Spatz had a goal and an assist. Spatz added four draw controls for Moravian while Klem had four ground balls, four draw
controls and four caused turnovers in the match. Wise had 12 saves for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds competed in their final meet before the
2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, making the trip to the Lehigh
University Games. Once again, junior Ozzie
Brown (Plymouth
Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) led Moravian,
winning the 200-meter dash in 21.96 seconds. Brown also placed fifth in the high jump at 1.88 meters (six feet,
two inches), and he competed in the throwing events while training for the
decathlon. Brown was 17th in the
shot put at 11.92 meters (39 feet, 1 1/4 inches), 18th in the discus with a
toss of 33.26 meters (109 feet, one inch) and 15th in the javelin with a toss
of 41.63 meters (136 feet, seven inches).
Junior Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville,
PA/Boyertown HS) turned in a
pair of runner-up finishes for the Greyhounds as he returned from an injury. Tussey was
second in the 110-meter high hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional
qualifying time of 14.85 seconds, and he was second in the 400-meter hurdles in
a time of 54.54 seconds. Other top five finishes for Moravian included junior Josh Kline (Reading, PA/Exeter HS)
taking fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.89 seconds, sophomore Timothy Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem
Catholic HS) placing fourth in the 400-meter dash in 52.20 seconds, senior Anthony Sarno
(Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township HS) taking fourth in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase in a time of 10:46.88 and the 4x400-meter relay squad finishing
second in a time of 3:31.50.
Freshman Steve Parisi (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in
53.39 seconds while junior Khizer Tariq (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon
Valley HS) was
seventh in 53.41 seconds. Freshman Nick
Shubert (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East HS) was 11th in the 400-meter
hurdles in a time of 1:01.50 while junior Vince
Pagano (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East HS) placed 13th
in the race in 1:02.14. Freshman Michael Blenk (Inwood,
NY/Lawrence HS) finished 13th in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.13 seconds.
Freshman Steve DeFazio (Branchburg,
NJ/Somerville HS) took 12th in the
800-meter run in 2:01.36 while sophomore John
McCullough (Levittown, PA/Conwell Egan HS) was 27th in the
1,500-meter run in 4:58.31.
Blenk
was tied for seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters (six feet) while
junior Allan Fatzinger (Catasauqua,
PA/Catasauqua HS) was tied for sixth in the pole vault at a height of 3.95
meters (12 feet, 11 1/2 inches). Blenk was also training in the throws events for the
decathlon, placing 18th in the javelin at 37.00 meters (121 feet, five inches),
22nd in the shot put with a toss of 8.27 meters (27 feet, 1 3/4 inches) and
26th in the discus with a toss of 27.51 meters (90 feet, three inches).
Sophomore Blair
Maginnis (Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) finished eighth in the shot
put at 14.10 meters (46 feet, 3 1/4 inches) while junior Nathaniel Dutile (Plymouth, ME/Nokomis HS)
was tenth after a toss of 13.77 meters (45 feet, 2 1/4 inches). Dutile placed
ninth in the discus with a toss of 41.49 meters (136 feet, one inch) while
senior Steve Kondorossy
(Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) finished 14th at 36.22 meters (118 feet, ten
inches). Freshman Ronald Draina (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen HS) was 16th in the discus with a toss of
34.15 meters (112 feet) while classmate Matthew
Wisotsky (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North HS) placed
17th with a distance of 33.78 meters (110 feet, ten inches). Kondorossy was
tenth in the hammer throw with a toss of 40.72 meters (133 feet, seven inches)
while Maginnis took 11th at 39.07
meters (128 feet, two inches), Draina finished 16th at 36.77 meters (120 feet, eight
inches) and Wisotsky placed 18th
with a toss of 30.19 meters (99 feet). Sophomore Justin Starcher (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack HS) was seventh in the javelin throw with
a distance of 51.60 meters (169 feet, three inches) while senior Michael Ossont (Archbald, PA/Valley View HS) took tenth at 46.13 meters
(151 feet, four inches) and sophomore Michael
Ientile (Manchester, NJ/Manchester Township HS) finished 12th at 45.35
meters (148 feet, nine inches).

The Greyhounds participated in their final meet prior to
the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, competing in the non-scoring
Lehigh University Games. Moravian had a pair of runner-up finishes in the
sprint races with senior Erin Recker
(Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS) taking second in the 100-meter dash in 12.60
seconds and senior Amy Reehil (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic HS) finishing
second in the 200-meter dash in 25.90 seconds. Reehil was also fourth in the
100-meter dash in a time of 12.89 seconds.
Other top-five finishers for the Greyhounds included
freshman Rachel Beck (Churchville,
PA/Council Rock South HS) placing fourth in the 200-meter dash in 26.67
seconds and fifth in the 100-meter dash at 12.89 seconds and freshman Queenie Tang (Bedminster, NJ/Chatham HS) placing
fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.11 meters (33 feet, two
inches). Tang also took 11th in the
200-meter dash in 27.61 seconds, 14th in the 100-meter dash in 13.29 seconds
and 16th in the long jump with a distance of 4.50 meters (14 feet, 9 1/4
inches).
Freshman Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy)
finished ninth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.36 seconds, and she was
13th in the 100-meter dash in 13.27 seconds while senior Kathleen McCarron (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS)
placed 12th in the 100-meter dash in 13.27 seconds and 13th in the 200-meter
dash at 27.88 seconds. Freshman Anna
Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown
HS) was 11th in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.23 seconds while freshman Katelyn Chando (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) took ninth in the 400-meter
hurdles in a time of 1:13.16. Sophomore Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) finished ninth in the
400-meter hurdles in 1:17.09 while sophomore Kelly Williams (Tafton,
PA/Wallenpaupack
HS) was 30th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:43.13 to round out
Moravian's running events.
Freshman Rachel
Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) placed eighth in the triple jump with
a distance of 9.78 meters (32 feet, one inch) while freshman Cassidy Thomas
finished 16th in the shot put with a toss of 8.76 meters (28 feet, nine
inches). Freshman Flora Robertson (Hawley,
PA/East Stroudsburg North HS) was ninth in the hammer throw at 41.15 meters
(135 feet), tenth in the discus with a toss of 30.02 meters (98 feet, six
inches) and tenth in the javelin with a distance of 31.79 meters (104 feet,
three inches). Senior Tammy Balliet (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) placed tenth in
the hammer throw at 38.12 meters (125 feet, one inch) while freshman Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga HS) was 12th
in the javelin at 29.93 meters (98 feet, two inches) and Thomas finished 16th with a toss of 20.20 meters (66 feet, three
inches).
