Men’s Track and Field – 0-0 (Landmark Conference 0-0)
Senior Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) competed in the first half of the decathlon at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic. Brown is first place after five events with 3,778 points after taking the top spot in ever event on the first day of competition. Brown was first in the 100-meter dash in 10.97 seconds to earn 867 points, first in the long jump at 7.01 meters (23 feet) to earn 816 points and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships, first in the shot put at 12.18 meters (39 feet, 11 1/2 inches) to garner 617, points, first in the high jump at 1.88 meters (six feet, two inches) to earn 696 points and first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.71 seconds to earn 782 points.
Senior Ozzie Brown won the decathlon at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic with a score of 6,669 points, which automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Brown started the second day of competition with a first place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.09 seconds to earn 839 points. Brown was then seventh in the discus with a toss of 30.22 meters (99 feet, two inches) to garner 469 points, fourth in the pole vault clearing 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5 1/4 inches) to earn 645 points, tenth in the javelin with a toss of 40.65 meters (133 feet, four inches) to earn 452 points and tenth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:13.69 to earn 486 points.
Moravian had two individuals capture first place finishes and set school record at the non-scoring The College of New Jersey Invitational. Senior Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown Area) won two events, capturing the 110-meter high hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 14.47 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in a school record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 53.03 seconds. Junior Alan Woods (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) won the pole vault, clearing a school record and an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying height of 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches). Woods broke C.J. Brown's previous school mark of 15 feet that was set almost 13 years ago.
Other top ten finishes in the track events for Moravian included junior Robert Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) placing fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.95 seconds, and Tussey taking tenth in the 200-meter dash in 22.51 seconds while senior Timothy Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) was tenth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:57.43. The Greyhounds "A" 4x400-meter relay squad tied for fifth in a time of 3:25.55.
In the field events, senior Allan Fatzinger (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9 1/4 inches) while freshman Adam Pollini (Shamokin Dam, PA/Lewisburg) was sixth at 3.90 meters (12 feet, 9 1/2 inches). Sophomore Michael Blenk (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.68 meters (21 feet, 11 inches).
Senior Nathaniel Dutile (Plymouth, ME/Nokomis) competed for the first time this season in the throws and finished seventh in the discus with a toss of 38.58 meters (126 feet, seven inches), and he was fifth in the shot put at 13.88 meters (45 feet, 6 1/2 inches). Junior Blair Maginnis (Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) took third in the shot put with a toss of 14.38 meters (47 feet, 2 1/4 inches), and Maginnis was tenth in the discus at 35.83 meters (117 feet, six inches). Senior Justin Starcher (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack) was fourth in the javelin with a distance of 52.26 meters (171 feet, five inches) while Fatzinger placed tenth at 47.07 meters (154 feet, five inches).

Men’s Lacrosse – 4-8 (Landmark Conference 0-4)
Moravian lost its fifth straight match, falling to Goucher College, 20-2, in Landmark Conference action. The Gophers would score first but the Greyhounds tied the contest with 11:30 remaining in the first quarter on a goal by junior attack Jason Tosches (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South). However, Goucher then scored the next 11 goals to build a 12-1 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the first half. The Gophers had a 5-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 14-2 at the intermission. Goucher would extend it lead to 18-2 after three quarters. The Gophers had a 62-24 advantage in shots, a 59-37 edge in ground balls and won 14 of 24 face-offs in the match. Tosches and freshman midfielder Robert Devine (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) each scored for Moravian with junior attack Christopher Danni (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) adding an assist. Devine won seven of 17 face-offs to go with three ground balls while senior defender Steven Carroll (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) led the Greyhounds with six ground balls. Freshman goalie Benjamin Leavy (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) also had six ground balls for Moravian to go along with 16 saves.

Women’s Track and Field – 0-0 (Landmark Conference 0-0)
The Greyhounds had one individual capture a first place finish and three student-athletes set school record at the non-scoring The College of New Jersey Invitational. Sophomore Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won the pole vault with a school record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying height of 3.78 meters (12 feet, 4 3/4 inches). Sophomore Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) set the school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a runner-up time of 15.15 seconds while freshman Syndi Wisniewski (Orlando, FL/Winter Park) set the school mark in the 400-meter dash with a fifth place finish in a time of 58.75 seconds. Wisniewski broke Alyssa Strausberger's record that was set back in 1996.
Other top ten finishes in the
track events for Moravian included sophomore Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) placing sixth in
the 100-meter dash in 12.61 seconds and tenth in the 200-meter dash in 26.73
seconds. Freshman Shannon McEvoy (Lafayette, NJ/High Point Regional) was fifth in
the 100-meter hurdles in 15.73 seconds, and she placed seventh in the 400-meter
hurdles in a time of 1:08.10. Junior Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was fifth in
the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13:31.06 while freshman Tara Chiarella (Hallstead, PA/Montrose Area)
was sixth in the 5,000-meter run in 19:50.29 and senior Katie Pulizzano (Allentown, PA/William Allen)
was seventh in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:05.05. Moravian's
4x400-meter relay team ran a time of 48.8 seconds to place third while the
Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay squad was seventh in 4:14.48.
In the field events, Posimo was fourth in the high jump at 1.56 meters (five feet, 1 1/4 inches), fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.69 meters (35 feet, one inch) and seventh in the long jump at 5.02 meters (16 feet, 5 1/2 inches). Wisniewski was third in the long jump at 5.20 meters (17 feet, 3/4 inch) while sophomore Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) took fourth at 5.14 meters (16 feet, 10 1/4 inches). Sophomore Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) was fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.44 meters (34 feet, three inches) and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.93 meters (16 feet, two inches) while McEvoy took tenth in the triple jump at 10.06 meters (33 feet, 1/4 inch).
Freshman Kaleen Holden () placed second in the javelin throw with a toss of 34.42 meters (112 feet, 11 inches) while sophomore Flora Robertson (Hawley, PA/East Stroudsburg North) placed fourth at 33.78 meters (110 feet, ten inches). Heim was fifth with a toss of 33.54 meters (110 feet) while sophomore Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) took seventh at 31.33 meters (102 feet, nine inches). Junior Thea Kennerknecht (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) was tenth in the pole vault, clearing 2.95 meters (nine feet, eight inches).

Women’s Lacrosse – 6-5 (Landmark Conference 0-3)
Moravian dropped its second straight Landmark Conference match, falling to Drew University, 18-10, on the HUB Quad. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore midfielder Lynda Kauffman (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) just 42 seconds into the match, and Moravian had a 2-1 lead at the 4:45 after the first of three goals by senior midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken).
However, Drew ran off six straight goals for a 7-2 lead with 11:30 to play in the first half. The Greyhounds scored four straight goals to pull within 7-6 with 3:30 remaining. The Rangers answered with four goals in the final 1:30 of the half to take an 11-6 halftime lead. Drew would score seven of the 11 goals in the second half, and the Rangers had a 51-23 advantage in shots, a 23-20 edge in ground balls and a 19-11 advantage in draw controls.
Spatz paced the Greyhounds with three goals and three draw controls while junior attack Georgia Castellano (Cherry Hills, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had two goals. Sophomore midfielder Paige Warbrick (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area) added a goal and an assist while Kauffman, sophomore attack Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council Rock North), sophomore defender Katie Wise (Ardsley, PA/Abington) and senior attack Jessica Bodine (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) each scored goals. Wise added four ground balls, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Courtney Rosenberg (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) had a career high 22 saves in the match to go with four ground balls.
The Greyhounds lost their third straight Landmark Conference match, falling to 19th-ranked The Catholic University of America, 18-5, in conference action on the HUB Quad. Moravian scored first on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Paige Warbrick just under two minutes into the match; however, the Cardinals would score ten of the next 13 goals to lead 10-3 at halftime.
Catholic then netted the first six goals of the second half to build a 16-3 lead. The Cardinals had a 49-10 advantage in shots, a 36-30 edge in ground balls and a 15-10 advantage in draw controls in the match. Kate Robinson led Catholic in scoring with seven goals and an assist while Marcy Cuneo had two goals and three assists. Lindsay Davenport added two goals wor the Cardinals while Katie Buonpastore, Caitlin O'Neill. Kelly Ryan, Liz Calabro, Katie Bitonti, Lauren Sheils and Caroline Taltavull each had goals. Buonpastore added two assists while Calabro, O'Neill, Ryan, Laura Haring and Kate Narzikul also had assists. Melissa Brashear had four saves in 54 minutes for the Cardinals while Jackie Getty had a team high six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Sophomore attack Jillian Pagliei had two goals for the Greyhounds while senior midfielder Erica Spatz had a goal and an assist. Spatz's assist was her ninth of the season, tying the school record for a single season. Warbrick and freshman Sarah Carman (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) also scored for Moravian. Spatz had a team high six ground balls to go with three caused turnovers while sophomore defender Katie Wise added three ground balls and three draw controls. Senior midfielder Robyn Klem (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) had five ground balls while Carman added three draw controls and three ground balls. Sophomore goalie Courtney Rosenberg made 15 saves for the Greyhounds.

Baseball – 14-14 (Landmark Conference 6-5)
The Greyhounds dropped a 10-4
non-conference game at York College of Pennsylvania, a game that was just added
to the schedule due to rainouts. The loss was the eighth straight for Moravian
after an 11-3 start to the season. York jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom
of the first inning on RBI singles by Ryan Poff and
Steve Pokopec. The Spartans added five more runs in
the bottom of the second inning for a 7-0 lead. Anthony Anzalone
had an RBI ground out in the inning while Dennis Maxim had an RBI double and
Mike Santoro added a two RBI double. York's first run on the inning score on a
wild pitch.
Moravian
would get on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third inning.
Sophomore outfielder David Lengyel (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom)was hit by a
pitch with one out and scored on an RBI single to right field off the bat of
freshman designated hitter Jacob Millen
(Whitehall, PA/Whitehall). Millen
was later thrown out at the plate to end the inning, The Greyhounds pulled
within 7-4 with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Senior second
baseman Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton)
singled up the middle to lead off the inning and freshman shortstop Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty)
followed with a single to centerfield. Lengyel drew a walk to load the bases before junior first
baseman Joseph Durso
(Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy) hit an RBI ground out scoring Stout. Millen then connected on a two-RBI single to right field scoring Huber and Lengyel.
York would
score twice in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Santoro and
a Greyhound error and once in the seventh inning on a Moravian error. The
Spartans had 11 hits in the game with two each by Ryan Craig, Poff, Maxim, and Santoro while the Greyhounds had ten hits
in the contest with Durso,
Millen and sophomore outfielder Brad Bodine (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor)
each getting two hits. Durso's two
hits gave him 99 for his career, just one shy of becoming the 13th player in
school history with 100 career hits.
Sophomore Richard Schultz (Drexel Hill, PA/The
Haverford School) took the loss on the mound for Moravian, allowing seven
runs, six of them earned, on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout in 1 1/3
innings of action. Sophomore Andrew DelRossi (Medford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) tossed 1 2/3
innings for the Greyhounds, giving up a hit while sophomore Philip Spence (Lafayette, NJ/Newton)
pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, one of them earned, on two hits and
three walks while striking out one. Sophomore Brandon Palmisano (Mountainhome,
PA/Pius X) tossed the final 1 2/3 innings for Moravian with a walk and two
strikeouts.
Moravian suffered a 14-5 loss
at Wilkes University in non-conference action as the Greyhounds dropped their
ninth straight contest. The Colonels jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of
the third inning on a solo home run by Geoff Miller, a three-run homer by Kyle Follweiler and a solo home run by Chris Mayerski.
Wilkes would extend the lead to 7-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the
fourth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from Mike McAndrew
and an RBI single by Follweiler.
The
Greyhounds would get a run in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore outfielder
Brad Bodine doubled with one out and
eventually scored from third base on a Wilkes throwing error on a failed
pickoff attempt. Moravian added another run on the top of the sixth inning to
cut the Colonel lead to 7-2. Junior third baseman Kevin Gambrino (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) connected on a two-out solo home run,
his second homer of the season, for the Greyhound run.
The
Colonels would push five runs across the plate in the bottom half of the sixth
inning to extend their lead to 12-2. McAndrew had an
RBI double while Follweiler, Keith Rhinehammer and Al Clocker each had RBI singles for Wilkes
in the inning. The Colonels scored their final two runs in the bottom of the
seventh inning on a two-RBI double from Brad Woznisky.
Moravian
would score three times in the top of the ninth inning to finish off the
scoring in the contest. Junior Thomas
Czarnecki (Columbia, NJ/North Warren)
led off with a pinch hit single but was out on a fielder's choice by freshman
pinch hitter Kirk Pastre
(San Marino, CA/San Marino). Junior first baseman Joseph Durso, who became the 13th player
in school history to reach 100 career hits with a single in the seventh inning
in his first at-bat of the game, reached on an error before Bodine hit an RBI double to score Pastre.
Sophomore Scott Brady (Montgomery,
NJ/Montgomery) then hit a two-out, two RBI double to score Durso and Bodine.
The
Greyhounds finished the game with nine hits led by a three-for-four performance
by Bodine and two hits from Gambrino. The
Colonels had 13 hits with Follweiler going
four-for-five and McAndrew, Woznisky
and Miller each collecting two hits. Senior Matthew Swartz took the loss on the
mound for the Greyhounds, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk with five
strikeouts in three innings of action. Sophomore Andre DeLio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany)
tossed 2 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on two hits and three walks while
striking out a batter while sophomore Andrew
DelRossi pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed
three runs on four hits and a walk. Freshman Jake Schweitzer worked 1 1/3 innings for the Greyhounds, giving up
a pair of runs on two hits and two walks while freshman Luke Skutches (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem
Catholic) tossed one inning with a strikeout.
The Greyhounds snapped their nine-game losing streak with
a 6-1 victory over Drew University in the first game of a Landmark Conference
doubleheader at Gillespie Field. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the
bottom of the first inning. Junior outfielders Eric Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard) and Josh Hinkle (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led off the
inning with singles and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from
junior shortstop Kevin Gambrino. Junior first baseman Joseph Durso then singled to drive in
both Shea and Hinkle.
The
Greyhounds would extend their lead to 5-0 with three more runs in the bottom of
the second inning. Freshman catcher Jon Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton) singled to lead off the
inning and senior second baseman Brett
Stout reached on a Drew error while trying to lay down a sacrifice bunt.
Freshman third baseman Jason Huber
drew a walk to load the bases, setting up an RBI sacrifice fly by Shea to score Baltz. Hinkle followed with a two RBI single to push Stout and Huber across
the plate.
Moravian
would make its lead 6-0 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gambrino led off
with a walk and advanced to second on a ground out by Durso. Sophomore outfielder Brad Bodine then hit an RBI single
scoring Gambrino
with Moravian's final run of the game. The Greyhounds had seven hits in the
contest with Hinkle going
two-for-three. The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh
inning when John Minio led off with a slolo home run, his fifth of the season. Minio's homer was just one of two hits for Drew with Andrew
Baxter hitting a single to lead off the third inning.Moravian
sophomore pitcher Christopher Morrison (Middlesex,
NJ/Immaculata) improved to 4-2 on the mound this season, allowing just one
run on two hits and two walks while striking out two batters in the complete
game.
Moravian
swept a Landmark Conference doubleheader from Drew University, taking the second
game, 13-1, at Gillespie Field to get back to .500 in conference action. The
Rangers would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Nixon Feliz led off with a single and scored on a double steal
with John Minio. The Greyhounds responded with three
runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Senior second
baseman Brett Stout led off with a
single and freshman third baseman Jason
Huber followed with a single. Junior outfielder Eric Shea laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring
position for a two-RBI single by junior outfielder Josh Hinkle. After junior shortstop Kevin Gambrino was hit by a pitch, junior
first baseman Joseph Durso
singled to score Hinkle with the
final run of the inning.
Moravian
would then push eight runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning
to take an 11-1 lead. Huber led off
with a walk and stole second. Shea
would then walks and Hinkle hit an
infield single to load the bases. Gambrino was hit by another pitch to drive in Huber while Durso reached on a fielder's
choice as the Rangers tried to throw Shea
out at the plate. The throw home would go out of play, allowing Hinkle to score as well. Sophomore
outfielder Brad Bodine would connect
on an RBI sacrifice fly to score Gambrino before freshman designated hitter Jake Schweitzer hit a two-run homer to
left field, Schweitzer's first
collegiate home run. Freshman catcher Jon
Baltz and senior second baseman Brett Stout hit back-to-back singles. Huber would hit an RBI infield single
to score Baltz,
who had moved to third on Stout’s
hit, and Stout eventually scored on a throwing error on an infield single by Shea to finish the scoring in the
inning.
The
Greyhounds scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore
shortstop Scott Brady was hit by a
pitch to lead off the inning and Durso followed with a single. Sophomore outfielder David Lengyel
then hit a single to lead the bases before freshman designated hitter Jacob Millen grounded into a double
play that scored Brady. Junior
catcher Thomas Czarnecki added an
RBI double to left field in his first at-bat of the game to score Durso with the
final run of the game. Moravian finished the contest with 13 hits including a
two-for-two performance by Huber and
two-for-four games by Hinkle, Durso and Stout. The Rangers had four hits with
Michael Meador collecting two of them.
Senior Trevor Lawrence () improved to 2-0 on
the mound this season for the Greyhounds, allowing a run on four hits and a
walk while striking out four batters. The Greyhounds held off a late inning
rally to sweep a Landmark Conference series from Drew University, winning the
final game of the weekend, 6-5, at Gillespie Field. The victory moved Moravian
back to the .500 mark for the season at 14-14 overall and back over .500 in
Landmark Conference action at 6-5.
The
Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Junior outfielder Eric Shea led off
with a walk and stole second base. Shea
moved to third on a deep fly out to right field by junior outfielder Josh Hinkle. Junior shortstop Kevin Gambrino
followed with an RBI ground out to score Shea.
Moravian extended its lead
to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second inning. Freshman
designated hitter Jake Schweitzer
singled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch and a balk setting up
an RBI single by freshman catcher Jon Baltz. Baltz would steal second base and then move to third on a
single by senior second baseman Brett
Stout. Baltz
would cross the plate on an RBI sacrifice fly by freshman third baseman Jason Huber.
The
Greyhounds doubled their lead to 6-0 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning. Baltz
singled with one out and moved to third on a single by Stout. Huber drew a walk
load the bases before an RBI single by Shea
that scored Baltz.
Stout was out on Shea’s
hit after slipping on the wet grass between third and home. Hinkle then hit a two-RBI single to
center field scoring Huber and Shea. Drew would get onto the
scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning with three runs to cut Moravian’s
lead back to three runs at 6-3. Nixon Feliz had
an RBI double while Owen Sloane added an RBI ground out and James Soldo had an RBI single.
The Rangers
added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull within 6-5 before
Moravian could get the final out of the game. Michael McGrath hit a pinch hit
single with one out and Giovanni Mancini came in to pinch run. After an out,
Andrew Baxter drew a walk before a wild pitch moved Mancini and Baxter into
scoring position. Feliz then delivered a two-RBI
single to right field scoring Mancini and Baxter. However, Feliz
was picked off first base by Greyhound sophomore pitcher Brandon Palmisano to end the game.
Moravian
had 12 hits in the contest with Stout going three-for-three and Baltz and Shea each having two-for-three games.
Sophomore outfielder Brad Bodine also
added two hits. Drew had ten hits in the game with Feliz
going three-for-five and Soldo picking up two hits.
Greyhound sophomore Joe Melchionna (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney)
improved to 4-2 on the mound this season, allowing three runs on eight hits and
a walk while striking out six batters in 7 1/3 innings of action. Palmisano picked
up his second save of the year after giving up two runs on two hits and a walk with
one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings.

Softball – 21-5 (Landmark Conference 6-0)
Moravian pushed its winning
streak to double digits with the Greyhounds' tenth straight victory, defeating
Delaware Valley College, 8-0 in six innings, in the first game of a
non-conference doubleheader on the road. The twinbill
was added to the schedule since both schools lost games due to opponents
needing to make up conference games.
The shutout
was the second straight for Moravian and ninth in the last ten games. Junior Maria DeBonis
(Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) improved to 8-3 in the circle with her sixth shutout
of the season. She allowed four hits and three walks while striking out ten
batters in the game.
The
Greyhounds would give DeBonis
all of the offense she needed before she even hit the circle with a pair of
runs in the top of the first inning. Junior outfielder Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth)
walked with one out and scored on an RBI double from senior designated player Beth Paly
(Whitehall, PA/Whitehall). Paly then scored on an Aggie error on a ball hit by senior
second baseman Kelly Santry
(Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland).
Moravian
added three runs in the top of the fourth inning to build a 5-0 lead. Santry led off
with a walk and moved to second on a Delaware Valley error on a ball off of DeBonis' bat. After a sacrifice bunt by junior
catcher Deanna Mangieri (Pleasantville,
NY/Byram Hills), Santry would score on another
Aggie error on a ball hit by senior outfielder Megan Ritchey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown). Freshman outfielder Amanda Paulus
(Easton, PA/Easton) hit a sacrifice fly to score DeBonis while Ritchey scored on Delaware Valley's
third error of the inning.
The
Greyhounds pushed the lead to 8-0 in the top of sixth inning with three more
runs to institute the NCAA eight-run rule. DeBonis hit an infield single to
lead off and was pinch run for by sophomore Katie Flood (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville). Mangieri then drew a walk before freshman outfielder Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South
Plainfield) hit a pinch hit, three-run home run to left field. The homer
was Boyle's first of the season. Moravian
had just six hits in the game with Paly going two-for-three while the Aggies had four hits with
two by Bethany Pavlik.
The
Greyhounds swept their fifth straight doubleheader, taking the second game of a
non-conference twinbill at Delaware Valley College,
14-0 in five innings. The win was Moravian's 11th straight including third
consecutive by shutout. The Greyhounds had won by shutout in ten of their last
11 games.
Freshmen
pitcher Elizabeth Python (Huntington
Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and Amie Ballo (Andes, NY/Andes Central) combined on a two-hit
shutout for Moravian. Python improved to 9-2 on the season, allowing a walk and
striking out three batters in three innings of action while Ballo gave up two hits and
struck out two batters in her first two innings of action on the season.
The
Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman
shortstop Stephanie Falzarano
(South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) led off the game with an infield single, and junior outfielder Erica Klepeisz reached on an error.
Senior second baseman Beth Paly would single to left field, setting up junior
designated player Maria DeBonis with the bases loaded. DeBonis responded with a grand
slam home run to right centerfield, her third homer of the season.
Moravian
then scored five runs in the top of the second inning for a 9-0 lead. Junior
catcher Deanna Mangieri led off the
inning with a single, and freshman outfielder Amanda Paulus followed with a two-run
home run to center field, her third homer of the year. After a ground out by Falzarano, Klepeisz reached
on an infield single and came around to score on an RBI triple by Paly. DeBonis then
reached on an error that allowed Paly to cross the plate. DeBonis would eventually score
on an RBI single by senior outfielder Megan
Ritchey.
The

single by Maressa.
The Greyhounds had 13 hits in the game with Paly going three-for-three and Maressa going
two-for-two.
Moravian opened a non-conference doubleheader at rival
Muhlenberg College with a 7-5 come-from-behind victory to extend the Greyhounds
winning streak to 12 straight games. The Mules scored the first five runs of
the game before Moravian plated seven runs in the top of the fifth inning for
the victory.
Muhlenberg
would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Samantha Crist singled with two outs and moved around the bases on
three Moravian errors. The Mules added four more runs in the bottom of the
fourth inning on a solo home run by Jess Kasza and a
three-RBI double by Ashley Brewer afther the Greyhounds'
fourth error of the game extended the inning with two outs.
The
Greyhounds sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth inning as
Moravian took the lead with seven runs. Junior first baseman Sheri Bieniek
(Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) led off the inning with a single and moved
to third on a one-out double by senior outfielder Megan Ritchey. Freshman outfielder Amanda Paulus
scored on a Muhlenberg error, allowing Bieniek to score, and Ritchey scored on an RBI infield
single by junior outfielder Erica Klepeisz. Senior designated hitter/second baseman Beth Paly
then hit an RBI single to score freshman shortstop Stephanie Falzarano, who had reached on a
fielder's choice. Junior pitcher Maria DeBonis then tied the game with a two-RBI double to score
Klepeisz
and Paly,
and DeBonis
crossed the plate with what ended up being the winning run on an RBI single by
senior infielder Kelly Santry. Santry would cross the plate when Bieniek hit an RBI double to
center field, Bieniek's
second hit of the inning.
Moravian
had eight hits in the contest with Bieniek and Ritchey
each going two-for-three. Muhlenberg also had eight hits in the game with Kasza going three-for-four and Crist
and Brewer each collecting two hits. DeBonis started in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing
five runs, just one earned, on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts as
she improved to 9-3 on the season. Freshman Elizabeth Python tossed the final three innings for Moravian to
earn her first collegiate save. Python
gave up three hits and struck out three batters as she ran her scoreless inning
streak to 39 straight innings without a run scored against her.
The
Greyhounds swept their sixth straight doubleheader and ran their winning streak
to 13 consecutive games with a 4-3 victory in the second game of a
non-conference doubleheader at rival Muhlenberg College. Moravian held off a
seventh inning rally by the Mules that saw Muhlenberg score all three of its
runs. The three runs ended Greyhound freshman pitcher Elizabeth Python's school record consecutive scoreless inning
streak at 45 innings.
Moravian
would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Senior second baseman Beth Paly led
off the inning with a single and moved to third on a double by junior
designated player Maria DeBonis. Senior third baseman Kelly Santry followed with an RBI single
to score Paly.
Both DeBonis
and Santry
were thrown out at the plate during the inning before junior first baseman Sheri Bieniek,
who had reached on a fielder's choice when DeBonis was out at the plate,
finally scored on a Muhlenberg error off of a ball hit by senior outfielder Megan Ritchey.
The
Greyhounds added a run in the top of the fifth inning to build a 3-0 lead.
Freshman shortstop Stephanie Falzarano led off the fifth with a single up the middle
and came around to score on a two-out RBI single up the middle by DeBonis.
Moravian scored what ended up being the winning run in the top of the sixth
inning for a 4-0 lead at the time. Freshman outfielder Amanda Paulus reached on a two-out
single, and then she stole second base, moving to third on an error. Paulus scored on
another Mule error on a ball hit by Falzarano. Muhlenberg would push three runs across the plate
in the bottom of the seventh inning and have the tying run at second base when
the game ended. The Mules scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Alyssa D'Addio and a two-RBI double by Ashley Brewer.
The Mules
had nine hits in the game with Brewer going three-for-four. RiRi
Ferrigno and Allie Saltstein
each had two hits for Muhlenberg. The Greyhounds had eight hits for the second
straight game with DeBonis
and Santry
each going two-for-four. Python improved
to 10-2 in the circle this spring with the victory despite having her school
record scoreless inning streak snapped at 45 innings. She allowed three runs on
nine hits and a walk while striking out three batters.
Moravian
won its 14th straight game and remained undefeated in Landmark Conference
action with a 7-3 victory over The Catholic University of America in the first
game of a conference twin bill at Blue & Grey Field. The win also gave
Moravian 20 victories for the season, the 15th consecutive year the Greyhounds
have won at least 20 games under the direction of head coach John Byrne, who is
also in his 15th season.
The Greyhounds
took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Stephanie Falzarano
drew a walk to lead off the inning before junior outfielder Erica Klepeisz
hit a single up the middle. After a pair of pop outs, senior third baseman Kelly Santry
drew a walk to load the bases before junior first baseman Sheri Bieniek drew a walk to push Falzarano home. The
Cardinals would score three times in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-1
lead. Pitcher Stacie Goddard hit an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1 with the
other two runs coming home on a Moravian error.
Moravian
responded with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to retake the
lead at 5-3. Senior outfielder Megan
Ritchey connected on her first home run of the season with one out, a solo
shot to center field. Freshman outfielder Amanda
Paulus then walked and moved to second on a
two-out single by Klepeisz.
Paly would
hit an RBI single to score Paulus with the tying run and Klepeisz would come around to
score on the play as the Cardinal outfield attempted to throw Paly out at
first. Junior designated player/pitcher Maria
DeBonis then hit an RBI single to score Paly.
The
Greyhounds added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead
to 6-3. Ritchey walked with one out
and moved to third on an error that allowed Falzarano to reach base. Another
Catholic error would allow Ritchey
to score. Moravian finished off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning
when DeBonis
hit her team leading fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to right field
with one out.
Moravian
had seven hits in the game with DeBonis going two-for-three and both Paly and Klepeisz turning in two-for-four
performances. The Cardinals had six hits with two by designated player Lynn
Brown. DeBonis
started in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing three runs, just one earned,
on four hits and two walks while striking out three in 3 2/3 innings of action.
Freshman Elizabeth Python would come
on to earn her 11th victory of the season, her tenth in a row, allowing just
two hits and striking out three batters in 3 1/3 innings.
The
Greyhounds swept their seventh straight doubleheader, taking the second game of
a Landmark Conference twinbill from The Catholic
University of America, 14-3 in five innings, at Blue & Grey Field. The win
also kept Moravian undefeated in its inaugural Landmark Conference season at
6-0. The Cardinals would score their three runs in the top of the first inning
to take a quick 3-0 lead. Kat Ager was hit by pitch with two outs and a single
by Kerry Convery set up a three-run home run by Lynn
Brown for Catholic.
Moravian
would respond with seven runs in its half of the first inning to take a 7-3
lead. Freshman shortstop Stephanie Falzarano walked to lead off the inning and senior
outfielder Megan Ritchey followed
with a single. Senior catcher Beth Paly reached on an error to score Falzarano. After an out, senior
third baseman Kelly Santry
hit an RBI single and junior first baseman Sheri
Bieniek followed with a two-RBI double to put the
Greyhounds in front. After another out, junior second baseman Katie Agnew hit an RBI double to score Bieniek, and
freshman Amanda Paulus
connected on an RBI single. Falzarano would come to the plate again an
hit an RBI single to finish off the scoring.
The Greyhounds
would add four runs to their lead in the bottom of the second inning for an
11-3 advantage. Paly
and junior designated player Maria DeBonis would single before Santry laid down a sacrifice
bunt. After another out, freshman outfielder Maura Agnew hit a two RBI double to score Paly and DeBonis before Katie Agnew hit
her second RBI double of the game. Paulus added an RBI single to score Katie Agnew to end the inning.
Moravian
finished off the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

was hit by a pitch to lead off. After Paly reached on a fielder's choice, DeBonis walked and Bieniek was hit

Men’s Tennis – 4-7-1
(Landmark Conference 2-4)
Moravian lost its third
straight match, falling at The University of Scranton, 6-3, in Landmark
Conference action. The Royals led 2-1 after doubles action with the Greyhounds
earning a win at first doubles from the team of sophomore Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School)
and junior Keith Feinman
(Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield). Moravian received straight sets wins in
singles action by Box and freshman Thomas Turcich (Haddon
Township, NJ/Haddon Township). The Greyhounds trailed before the match even
started having to give up two points becuase the team
could only play with five players due to an injury by sophomore Jason Bonilla (Whitestone, NY/Bayside)
for a second consecutive match.
The Greyhounds dropped a 7-2 non-conference decision to King's College in a match at Hoffman Courts as Moravian fell for the fourth consecutive match. The Monarchs swept the three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The Greyhounds would win a pair of singles contests with sophomore Ian Box winning in straight sets at first singles and junior Keith Feinman capturing a straight sets win at fifth singles. Moravian sophomore Jason Bonilla returned to the line-up after missing a pair of matches to give the Greyhounds a full contingent of players.
Moravian suffered a 5-4 loss to
Drew University in a Landmark Conference match at Hoffman Courts. The loss was
the fifth straight for the Greyhounds. Moravian led 2-1 after doubles action
with victories by the teams of sophomore Ian
Box and junior Keith Feinman at first doubles and sophomore Chandler Forman (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth)
and freshman Thoams Turcich at
second doubles. However, the Greyhounds would win just two doubles matches with
Box winning in straight sets at first singles and Turcich winning in three sets at
fourth singles.

Women’s Tennis – 7-5
(Landmark Conference 5-0)
Moravian
clinched a berth in the inaugural Landmark Conference Tournament with a 7-2
victory at The University of Scranton as the Greyhounds remained undefeated in
Landmark Conference action. Moravian led 2-1 after the doubles action with
victories by the duos of senior Lindsey
Hopper (Middlesex,
NJ/Middlesex) and junior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) and seniors Brittany Popaca (Lavallette,
NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) and Jennel Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua). The Greyhounds then captured five of six
singles matches in straight sets with wins by Hopper, Popaca,
Yelito,
freshman Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and senior Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg).
The Greyhounds won their third
straight match and clinched the top seed in the inaugural Landmark Conference
Tournament with an 8-1 Landmark Conference win over Drew University at Hoffman
Courts. Moravian swept the doubles action to build a 3-0 lead behind the teams
of senior Lindsey Hopper and junior Dyana Swan at
first doubles, seniors Brittany Popaca and Jennel Yelito at second doubles and junior MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven,
NJ/Southern Regional) and freshman Kerry McKinley at third doubles. Hopper, Popaca,
Yelito, McKinley and senior Rebecca Angstadt each had straight sets
wins in singles action for the Greyhounds.
