Moravian lost its second game of the
season, falling to local rival DeSales University, 90-67, in non-conference
action. The Greyhounds, who were playing without sophomore starters Jessica Foran
(Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep) and Alyssa
Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton) for a second straight game due to injuries,
jumped out to a 10-4 lead with 15:05 remaining in the first half but the
Bulldogs responded with a 13-2 run to take a 17-12 lead with 10:26 left in the
half. Moravian would pull within a point twice and trailed just 23-20 with 6:06
remaining before the intermission, however; DeSales ended the half with a 13-1
run to head to the locker room with a 36-21 lead. Moravian made just nine of 26
field goal attempts (34.6 percent) and three of eight free throws while missing
all four of its three-pointers. The Bulldogs were 13 of 40 from the floor, one
of eight behind the three-point line and nine of 13 at the foul line in the
first 20 minutes. DeSales also had a 32-15 advantage in rebounds in the first
half. The Greyhounds started the second half with a 6-0 run to get the Bulldog
lead under ten points at 36-27 before DeSales took
control of the game. Moravian improved its shooting in the second half, making
13 of 31 field goal attempts (41.9 percent), three of six three-pointers and 17
of 23 free throws. The Bulldogs also shot better in the second half, connecting
on 18 of 30 field goals, one of five three-pointers and 17 of 19 free throws.
DeSales had a 50-31 advantage in rebounds for the game and also forced Moravian
into 30 turnovers while committing just 23 turnovers. The Greyhounds placed
five players in double figures led by sophomore guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS), who
netted 14 points to go with six rebounds and two blocked shots. Sophomore
forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS)
and freshman guard/forward Emily Smith
(East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) each scored 11 points with
Stearns contributing three rebounds
and Smith adding three assists,
three steals and two boards. Sophomores guard Amanda Brown (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven HS) and forward
Lauren Fornazor
(Rivervale, NJ/Pascack Valley
HS) each tossed in ten points, a career high for Fornazor, who added four
rebounds while Brown had three
assists. Senior guard LaToya Blake (Allentown, PA/Dieruff
HS) had six points, four assists and two rebounds for the Greyhounds while
freshman forward Amie Ballo (Andes, NY/Andes Central HS) contributed five
points and six rebounds in the game.

The Moravian College women’s indoor track & field
team will begin its 2007-08 season on Friday, December 7th at the
Lehigh University Invitational.

Moravian dropped its second straight game, falling to
local rival DeSales University, 66-50, in non-conference action. The Greyhounds
jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with 17:53 left in the first half but DeSales
responded to take an 8-7 lead at the 14:56 mark. The teams would trade leads
with Moravian eventually taking a 19-18 lead with 8:54 before halftime, and the
Greyhounds would push that lead to five points twice, the final time at 27-22
with 4:44 left on the clock. DeSales would tie the game at 27-27 at the 3:42
mark before Moravian took a 29-27 lead with 3:13 remaining in the first half.
The Bulldogs finished the half with an 11-0 run to head to the locker room with
a 38-29 advantage. Moravian was 12 of 29 from the field (41.4 percent), three
of ten behind the three-point line and two-for-two at the foul line in the
first half while DeSales made 14 of 23 field goal attempts, two of seven
three-pointers and eight of 13 free throws in the game's first 20 minutes.
Early in the second half, the Greyhounds would pull within six points at 42-36
with 16:17 to play but the Bulldogs had a 9-2 run to take control at 51-38 with
14:17 remaining. Moravian had trouble shooting the ball in the second half,
making just seven of 28 field goal attempts, one of 16 three-pointers and six
of nine free throws while DeSales continued to shoot the ball well, connecting
on ten of 19 field goals, one of four three-pointers and seven of 16 free
throws. The Bulldogs also had a 35-27 advantage in rebounds while Moravian
forced 19 turnovers and only committed 15. The Greyhounds had just one player
in double figures with senior forward Mark
Franzyshen (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS) netting
12 points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Senior forward Chris Earley (Brielle,
NJ/Manasquan HS) and sophomore forward Eric
Weaver (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS) each scored seven points for Moravian
with Earley
grabbing a game high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Maurice Young (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) had six
points and a pair of rebounds for the Greyhounds while seniors forward Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre Dame
East Stroudsburg {PA} HS) and guard Ryan
Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) both scored five points. Whitman grabbed six rebounds and added three steals and two assists
while Miller had two rebounds.
Senior guard Chris Bays (Hackettstown,
NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) and freshman forward Chris Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip HS) each had three points
for Moravian.
