Men’s Basketball – 6-2
(Landmark Conference 1-0)
The Greyhounds won their third straight game,
defeating FDU-Florham, 67-59, to finish off the team's six-game road trip to
start the 2007-08 season. Moravian jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Devils
scored their first basket at the 15:04 mark. FDU-Florham pulled within two
points at 8-6 before the Greyhounds went on a 14-2 run to take a 22-8 lead with
7:48 remaining in the first half. However, Moravian would score just five
points the rest of the half and head to the locker room with a 27-23 lead. The
Greyhounds were 11 of 24 from the field (45.8 percent), four of nine behind the
three-point line and one of two at the foul line in the first 20 minutes.
Moravian took a seven-point lead, 32-25, on a three-pointer by senior forward Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre Dame
East Stroudsburg) before the Devils started to climb back into the contest.
FDU-Florham would eventually take a 40-39 lead with 12:45 remaining in the
contest and would also lead 44-43 before a 12-1 Greyhound run put Moravian up
55-45 with 4:33 left to play. The Greyhounds' lead would be 14 points, 65-51,
with 1:04 to play. Moravian connected on 11 of 21 field goal attempts (52.4
percent), four of nine three-pointers and 14 of 20 free throws in the second
half. Moravian had three players in double figures lead by Whitman with 19 points to go with five rebounds. Senior forward Chris Earley

(Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) added 12 points and four boards. Freshman guard Maurice Young (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut
Hill Academy) netted a career high eight points for the Greyhounds to go

Moravian
extended its winning streak to four games and won its 2007-08 home opener with a 71-57 victory over Delaware Valley College in
non-conference action in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 5-0 lead
and would lead the entire game. Moravian would lead by as many as 14 points in
the first half, up 24-10 with 4:44 until the intermission; however, the
Greyhounds did not score again and went to the locker room with just a
four-point edge, 24-20. Neither team shot the ball well in the first half with
Moravian making just eight of 27 field goal attempts (20.6 percent), three of
13 three-pointers and five of six free throws. The Greyhounds would again get
the lead to double digits with a 15-point advantage at 39-24 with 14:33 to play
only to see Delaware Valley fight back to a four-point deficit on three
occasions, the final time at 47-43 with 7:42 remaining on the clock. Moravian
would get the lead back to double digits for the remainder of the game at the
5:20 mark with a 53-43 lead. The Greyhounds shot much better in the second
half, connecting on 11 of 22 field goal attempts (50 percent), six of 12

1996-97 campaign. The Greyhounds scored first on a lay-up by senior forward Mark Franzyshen
but saw the Flying Dutchmen run off six straight points for a 6-2 lead.

guard Steve Siracusa
at the 12:32 mark. The Greyhounds eventually built a six-point advantage on a

Lebanon Valley a 31-29 lead with 2:02 left in the
first half. However, the Flying Dutchmen did not score again in the half as the

Weekly Update, December 10, 2007 (-3333-)
Women’s Basketball –4-3
(Landmark Conference 1-0)
The Greyhounds won their
inaugural Landmark Conference game with a 63-61 victory at The University of
Scranton. The win was the second straight for Moravian, and the Greyhounds'
first at Scranton since a 79-76 win in the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs
on February 24, 1998. The contest went back-and-forth early with neither team
leading by more than two points until a three-point play by Greyhound sophomore
forward Alyssa Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton),
who returned to the line-up after missing four games with an injury, to give
Moravian a 13-10 lead with 9:57 remaining in the first half. The Royals, who
received votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll after being ranked last
week and were 18th in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Poll, would pull within a point
before the Greyhounds pushed the lead to six points at 22-16 on a jumper by
Moravian sophomore guard Amanda Brown
(Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven) with 5:41 left until the
intermission. Moravian was just ten of 30 from the field (33.3 percent) and one
of three behind the three-point line in the first half; however, the Greyhounds
were 14 of 15 at the foul line to build their lead. When the teams came back
onto the floor for the second half, it took nearly three minutes for anyone to
score. Sophomore forward Kirsty Stearns (East
Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay) scored at the 17:16 mark to give Moravian its
biggest lead of the game to that point, 37-30. The Greyhounds pushed the lead
to eight points on three occasions, the final time at 44-36 on a pair of free
throws by sophomore forward Lauren Fornazor (Rivervale, NJ/Pascack Valley) with 14:50 remaining. Over the next two
minutes, Scranton went on a 7-0 run to pull within a point at 44-43 with 12:37
left in the second half, and the Royals would eventually jump out to a
three-point lead, 52-49, with just 7:07 to play. Moravian would respond with an
11-3 run to take a five-point lead at 60-55 on a pair of Bisci free throws with 1:06 left on the clock. Moravian sophomore
guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor,
NY/Cold Spring Harbor) hit one of two free throws with three seconds left
to seal the victory. The Greyhounds struggled shooting the ball in the second
half, making just eight of 29 field goal attempts (27.6 percent) and two of
eight three-pointers. The Greyhounds did continue to shoot the ball well from
the foul line, making ten of 13 second half free throws including seven of
eight in the final 1:30 of the contest. The Greyhounds had four players in
double figures led by Bisci, who had
a career high 15 points, a career best eight rebounds and two steals in her
first action since the season opener. Freshman guard/forward Emily Smith (East Stroudsburg, PA/East
Stroudsburg South) contributed 13 points and three steals while Brown tossed in 12 points. Stearns had ten points and eight
rebounds in the Moravian win while Harrison
added eight points and six boards. Fornazor contributed four rebounds and three points off of
the bench while senior guard LaToya Blake
(Allentown, PA/Dieruff) had four rebounds, two
points and two assists.
Moravian extended its winning
streak to three straight games with a 57-44 non-conference victory at Ursinus
College. The Bears jumped out to a 6-2 lead and would hold an advantage until
the Greyhounds tied the contest at 12-12 with 12:25 remaining in the first
half. Moravian had started a run while trailing by four points and ran off a
total of 19 straight points for a 27-12 lead with just 5:36 until the
intermission. The Greyhounds would keep that lead in double figures for the
remainder of the first half and head to the locker room with a 34-21 lead after
shooting 12 of 32 from the floor (37.5 percent), one of eight behind the
three-point line and a perfect nine-for-nine at the foul line in the first 20
minutes. The Greyhounds were in control the entire second half with the Bears
only getting within six points once at 38-32 with 16:10 to play, but Moravian
maintained a double-digit lead for most of the half. The Greyhounds really
struggled shooting from the floor in the second half, making just six of 31
field goal attempts (19.4 percent) and 11 of 15 free throws while missing both
of their three-point attempts. Moravian
had three players in double figures led by Bisci,
who had 13 points and a career high 11 rebounds for her first career
double-double. Harrison added ten
points and six rebounds while sophomore guard Jessica Foran (Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep),

double-overtime victory over rival Muhlenberg College in Johnston Hall to head
to the semester break with a four-game winning streak. Moravian scored the
first basket of the game on a lay-up by Bisci.
Then the Mules ran off seven straight points for a 7-2 lead, the first of eight
five-point leads for Muhlenberg during the first half. The Mules led 23-18 with
8:23 remaining before halftime when the Greyhounds put together an 8-2 run
capped by a jumper from Foran
to take a 26-25 lead, Moravian's first since Bisci's opening basket. The Greyhounds finished the first half by extending
the run to 24-11 for a 40-34 lead at the break. Both teams shot the ball well
during the first 20 minutes with Moravian making 13 of 32 field goal attempts
(40.6 percent), one of five three-pointers and 13 of 17 free throws. Moravian
scored the first points of the second half on a pair of Bisci free throws for an eight-point lead, 42-34. The Greyhounds
led 44-36 after a pair of free throws by Stearns
before Muhlenberg went on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 46-46. The Mules made the next basket to give
Muhlenberg a 48-46 lead. Moravian would tie the game at 48-48 before the Mules
pulled away 56-50 on a three-pointer. Muhlenberg would have its largest lead of
the game, seven points, after three-pointer gave the Mules a 63-56 advantage
with 7:28 to play. Trailing by six points with 5:28 play, Brown connected on back-to-back three-pointers to tie the contest
at 65-65 with 3:56 left in regulation. Both teams then went cold from the field
with the next points coming on a Muhlenberg lay-up with 19 seconds remaining. Brown retied the game with 13 seconds
remaining on a jumper that forced overtime at 67-67. In the second half,
Moravian struggled shooting the ball from the field, making just seven of 25
field goals (28 percent) and three of five on three-pointers; however, The
Greyhounds were 10 of 11 at the foul line to keep themselves
in the contest. When the first overtime started, the Greyhounds jumped out to a
five-point lead, 72-67, with 2:52 to play, and Moravian had a five-point edge,
74-69, with 1:51 on the clock. However, the Mules fought back and tied the
contest at 77-77 with just over two seconds remaining. Muhlenberg jumped out to
the quick lead at the start of the second overtime, taking an 81-78 lead.
Moravian fought back and took the lead for good on a lay-up from Smith with 3:10 left on the clock. The
shot was one of just three field goals the Greyhounds made in the second
overtime as the squad scored its other 11 points at the foul line. Moravian
made eight of ten free throws in the final 58 seconds including four by Bisci. The Greyhounds were five of ten
from the field, one-for-one on three-pointers and 17 of 22 at the foul line in
the two overtime periods. The foul line is where Moravian won the game as the
Greyhounds were 40 of 50 at the charity stripe for the game while the Mules
were just 12 of 16. Moravian had five players in double figures led by a game
and career high 26 points by Brown,
who was five-for-eight behind the three-point line. Brown also had three rebounds in the victory. Bisci had a career best 19 points, including 13-for-14 at the foul
line, to go with three rebounds while Stearns
had a double-double for Moravian with 16 points and ten rebounds along with
three blocked shots and two assists. Stearns
was a perfect ten-for-ten at the foul line in the victory for the Greyhounds. Smith had 11 points and six rebounds
while shooting seven-for-eight at the foul line while Foran had ten points, all in the
first half, and three assists in her first start since the season opener due to
injury although Foran
left the game early in the second half after being reinjured. Harrison added eight points, five
rebounds and four assists in the Moravian win while Fornazor had five points, six
rebounds and two steals off of the bench. Blake
had five rebounds before fouling out of the game in the second half for
