At 2006 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Individual Tournament at Lehigh University hosted by Drew University & Messiah College – First Day Results

Moravian had all six of its singles players and its three doubles teams knocked out in the first two rounds of the 2006 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Individual Tournament being played at Lehigh University and co-hosted by Drew University and Messiah College. The Greyhounds did have five singles players and two doubles teams reach the quarterfinals.

In singles action, junior Scott Shelbo defeated Todd Adams of Susquehanna University in the first round before falling to top seed Nathan Ipsen of Messiah College in the quarterfinals in the second singles bracket. Senior Sean Lynch was seeded sixth and received a first round bye in the third singles bracket. He fell to third seeded Arvin Narula of Wilkes University in the quarterfinals. Freshmen Keith Feinman, Lee Gustin and Jeremiah Reinhart each had straight set singles wins in the first round in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles flights before falling to seeded players in the quarterfinals. Feinman defeated Jon Kindred of DeSales University but lost to top seed Jonathan Sieman of Messiah in the fourth singles bracket while Gustin defeated Tom Miller of Wilkes before falling to fourth seeded Ryan Navarro of Juniata College in the fifth singles flight. In the sixth singles bracket, Reinhart earned a win over Colin Baker of Lycoming College with a tiebreaker in the first set before losing to second seeded Jonathan Cohen of Juniata College.

In doubles action, Shelbo and Gustin combined for the first round win in a tiebreaker before falling in the quarterfinals while Feinman and Reinhart won their first round match before dropping out with a loss in the quarterfinals as well. Shelbo and Gustin defeated Mike Clark and Matt Silva from the University of Scranton in the second singles bracket before falling to Shawn Becker and Erick Vargo for Lebanon Valley College. Feinman and Reinhart defeated Miller and Chris Noll from Wilkes in the first round of the third singles bracket before falling to Matthew Bucher and Samuel Shorts of Messiah in the quarterfinals.

At DeSales University – Won 6-1

Moravian closed out the 2006 dual match season with a 6-1 victory over local rival DeSales University in non-conference action. The Greyhounds swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point including wins by the teams of seniors Neil Caniga and Sean Lynch, junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Lee Gustin and freshmen Keith Feinman and Andrew Mashintonio, who was seeing his first action of the season. Moravian then won five of six singles contests with straight sets wins by Caniga, Shelbo, Feinman, Mashintonio and freshman Jeremiah Reinhart. Lynch dropped a three-set match in singles action while Caniga's win was the 31st of his career, moving him into a tie for fourth in the Moravian record books.

The Greyhounds played their final home match of the 2006 season, falling to King's College, 6-1, at Hoffman Courts in non-conference action. Moravian's lone point came from freshman Keith Feinman at fourth singles with a three-set victory. The Greyhounds did earn a win at second doubles with a victory by junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Lee Gustin; however, the Monarchs won the other two doubles contests for the doubles point.

Vs. King's College – Postponed to April 24th

Moravian's non-conference match versus King's College scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd has been postponed for the second time this season. The contest was originally scheduled for March 18th. The match has been rescheduled for Monday, April 24th at 4:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.

At Lebanon Valley College – Lost 6-1

Moravian closed out the 2006 Commonwealth Conference season with a 6-1 loss to Lebanon Valley College in a match that decided the final team for the four-team Commonwealth Conference Tournament that begins next week. The Greyhounds lone point came from a straight sets singles win by freshman Keith Feinman at fourth singles. Junior Scott Shelbo and senior Sean Lynch each won a set in their singles match for Moravian but we unable to win, both falling in three sets.

The Greyhounds won their second straight match with a 7-0 sweep of Chestnut Hill College in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts. Moravian opened the match with three doubles wins to earn the doubles point. The Greyhoudns received victories from the teams of seniors Neil Caniga and Sean Lynch, junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Lee Gustin and freshmen Keith Feinman and Jeremiah Reinhart. The Greyhounds would also sweep the doubles action with straight sets wins by Caniga, Shelbo, Lynch, Feinman, Gustin and Reinhart. Shelbo needed a tiebreaker in his first set. The singles victory by Caniga was the 30th of his career, tying him for sixth in school history.

At Juniata College – Won 4-3

Moravian earned its second Commonwealth Conference victory of the season, defeating previously undefeated Juniata College, 4-3, in a conference match. The Greyhounds took the doubles point to begin the contest with victories by the teams of junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Lee Gustin and the freshmen duo of Keith Feinman and Jeremiah Rinehart. Moravian won three of the singles matches to take the win with victories by Shelbo at second singles, Gustin at fifth singles and senior Neil Caniga at first singles. Reinhart also won a set of his singles match before falling at sixth singles.

In singles action, Moravian received straight sets wins from Feinman and senior Neil Caniga and a three-set victory by freshman Lee Gustin.

Moravian started the match by earning the doubles point for wins in all three doubles contests. Seniors Neil Caniga and Sean Lynch won at first doubles, junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Lee Gustin earned the victory at second doubles while freshmen Keith Feinman and Jeremiah Reinhart won at third doubles. The Greyhounds swept all six singles matches with Caniga, Shelbo, Lynch, Gustin and Reinhart winning in straight sets and Feinman earning a three-set victory.

The Greyhounds earned their first victory of the season with a 4-3 win over the University of Scranton in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts. Moravian opened the match by taking two of three doubles contests to earn the doubles point. Seniors Neil Caniga and Sean Lynch posted a 9-7 win at first doubles while junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Lee Gustin won at second doubles, 8-3. Caniga, Lynch and freshman Jeremiah Reinhart each had straight sets victories in singles action to clinch the win for Moravian.

Moravian finally played its first home match of the season, falling to Wilkes University, 6-1, in a non-conference match played in the Breidegam Fieldhouse due to cold temperatures and wind. Moravian earned its lone point at fourth singles on a three-set victory by freshman Keith Feinman. The Greyhounds also earned a victory at first doubles with an 8-1 win by the duo of seniors Neil Caniga and Sean Lynch. However, the Colonels won the other two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

The Greyhounds dropped a 5-2 decision to rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference match played indoors due to windy conditions. Moravian earned its two points in singles action with a three-set victory by senior Neil Caniga at first singles and a straight sets win by senior Sean Lynch at third singles.

At 2005 Wilson ITA Southeast Regional hosted by University of Mary Washington – Individuals Only

The Greyhounds competed at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Fredericksburg, Virginia last weekend. In the championship singles draw, senior Neil Caniga dropped his first match to the second seed of the tournament. Caniga did win his first match of the consolation bracket before being knocked out of the tournament. In the “B” singles draw, freshman Steve Bontempo won his first match before losing in the round of 32. Senior Sean Lynch , junior Scott Shelbo and freshman Keith Feinman each lost their first round matches. Shelbo would advance all the way to the consolation bracket quarterfinals while Lynch made the second round. In doubles action in the “B” draw, Lynch and Shelbo lost both of their matches.

At 2005 ECAC North Tennis Championships hosted by Vassar College – 9th of 9

The Greyhounds competed at the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference North Tennis Championships hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Moravian finished with a team score of five points, which was ninth of the nine teams in the competition. NCAA Division I Fairfield University won the event with 22 points. Senior Neil Caniga dropped a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(0) match in the quarterfinals of the first singles flight while junior Scott Shelbo was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the second singles with a 6-0, 6-2 loss. In third singles, freshman Keith Feinman dropped a straight sets decision, 6-2, 6-0, while freshman Steve Bontempo fell to the top seed, 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth singles flight. Freshman Lee Gustin rounded out the Moravian line-up with a 6-1, 6-0 loss in the fifth singles flight.
