2006 Review

The Moravian College Men’s Tennis team posted an overall record of 5-10 and finished 2-4 in the Commonwealth Conference under the direction of head coach Jim Walker, who completed his 26th season at the school.

Senior Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) had a 9-11 record at first singles including an 8-7 mark in dual matches. He teamed up with senior Sean Lynch (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) for a 5-9 mark in doubles action with a 5-8 slate at first doubles in dual matches. Caniga was named to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team for the third straight season, and he had a career mark of 31-23, which is tied for the fourth highest singles win total in Moravian history.

Lynch, who finished his career with 20 singles wins, was 5-14 in singles action with a 4-10 mark at third singles in dual matches this year. Freshman Keith Feiman (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield HS) was 8-12 in singles action with a 7-7 slate at fourth singles while junior Scott Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) was 7-14 with a 5-10 mark at second singles. Freshman Lee Gustin (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) was 6-11 in singles action with a 4-9 record at fifth singles while freshman Jeremiah Reinhart (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) had a 5-11 singles record while playing sixth singles.

Shelbo and Gustin combined for Moravian’s top doubles record of 8-8 at second doubles, and the duo was 7-7 in dual matches. Feinman and Reinhart were 5-10 at third doubles this season, and freshman Andrew Mashintonio (North Wales, PA/Lansdale Catholic HS) was 1-0 in singles action and 1-0 in doubles competition with Feinman.

Coach Walker and Moravian are slated to return five players next season and will look again to challenge for a postseason berth.
