The Moravian College men’s tennis team posted an overall record of 13-6, tying the school record for wins, and finished 6-1 in the Landmark Conference under the direction of co-head coaches Jim Walker who completed his 29th season at the school and Neil Caniga, both of whom were named to the 2009 Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year. The Greyhounds also made their third straight postseason appearance where they fell to Drew 6-3 in their first-ever conference championship match appearance.
Leading the Greyhounds was junior Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School), who posted an overall record of 12-7, a 9-3 record at second singles and a Landmark Conference mark of 4-1 before a season ending injury in the final week of the regular season that kept him out of the postseason. Box, the 2008 Landmark Conference Player of the Year, was named to the 2009 Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles.
Box teamed up with sophomore Doug Morrow (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS), who was also named to Landmark All-Conference First Team Singles, in doubles or an overall record of 11-8 and a 4-1 record in the conference to earn a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Doubles Team as a tandem. Morrow in his first year in the program also contributed an overall singles record of 9-15 and a Landmark record of 5-2.
Freshman Kevin Holze (Bayside, NJ/St. Francis Prep HS), who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Singles Team, posted a 21-4 overall record and a conference mark of 7-0 in singles this year while recording an overall 15-7 doubles record which is the school single season doubles win record with freshman Drew Shreter (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS), gaining them a spot as a team on the Landmark All-Conference Second Doubles Team. Shreter put up a 20-3 record with a 5-1 record in the conference for singles and earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Doubles Team.
Junior Chandler Forman (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth HS) posted a 17-6 overall for a 7-0 Landmark post in singles. Nick Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) recorded a 15-6 overall mark this year while junior Jason Bonilla (Whitestone, NY/ Bayside HS) posted a 5-4 record.
Senior Keith Feinman (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield HS) finished the year with a 1-2 singles record and a 1-0 doubles record with both Holze and Bonilla while Forman and sophomore Thomas Turcich (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township HS) recorded a 12-3 overall mark in doubles.
Box and Feinman were both named to the 2009 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll while Box also earned a spot on the 2009 Landmark Conference All-Academic Team.
Coach Walker and Coach Caniga are hoping to have another great season next year and earn another spot in the conference championship match.
