At Seamus McElligott Memorial Meet hosted by Haverford College – No Team Scores
The Greyhounds sent three athletes to the Seamus McElligott Memorial Meet at Haverford College in a last chance to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championship meet but all three Greyhounds fell short. Senior Doug Joseph placed fourth in the 100 meters in 11.18 seconds while junior Kevin Bush was fourth in the 400 meters in 49.69 seconds. Senior Anthony Rediger took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.49 meters (44'3 1/4").
At Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet hosted by Villanova University – No Team Scores
The Greyhounds sent two athletes to the Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet at Villanova University to try an qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championship but both came up short. Senior Doug Joseph placed sixth in his heat in the 100 meters with a time of 10.99 seconds, his second fastest time of the season. Senior Anthony Rediger placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.20 meters (43'3 1/4").
At Middle Atlantic Conference Championships – 3rd of 10
The Greyhounds moved up two spots in the second day of the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship hosted by Messiah College to finish third of ten teams. Senior Doug Joseph placed second in the 100 meters in 11.10 seconds while junior Kevin Bush was second in the 200 meters in school record time of 21.88. Junior Josh Heebner was second in the 400 meters with a time of 49.39 while sophomore George Wacker placed third in the 800 meters in 1:57.22. Freshman Joe Grady earned a sixth place finish in the 1,500 meters in 4:09.01 while senior Damon Rutherford was seventh in 4:09.13. Freshman Steve Hartenstine placed fifth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 57.50 seconds and he was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.50 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team of Hartenstine, Bush, Joseph and freshman Anthony Merz placed second with a time of 43.22 seconds while the 4x400-meter relay squad of Heebner, Wacker, Hartenstine and Bush placed second in 3:20.89. Freshman Joe Moore placed fourth in the long jump at 21 feet, 4 1/4 inches (6.51 meters) while sophomore Matt Bowers took third in the hammer throw at 131 feet, three inches (40.00 meters).
At Middle Atlantic Conference Championships – 5th after first day
The Greyhounds are in fifth place after the first day of the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship hosted by Messiah College. Senior Damon Rutherford placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:44.19 while freshman Joe Grady was fifth in 9:55.10. Junior Jim McIntyre placed third in the decathlon with 4,666 points. Sophomore Justin Arnold was tenth in the 10,000 meters in 35:58.60. Freshman Joe Moore placed second in the high jump at six feet, 3 1/4 inches (1.91 meters) while senior Anthony Rediger was fourth at the same height. Rediger placed second in the triple jump at 46 feet, 1 1/2 inches (14.06 meters, just .06 meters off the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard)..
At Lions' Invitational at the College of New Jersey No Team Scoring
Senior Anthony Rediger won the triple jump at the Lions' Invitational hosted by the College of New Jersey for the second straight year with a leap of 12.86 meters. Senior Doug Joseph placed second in the 100 meters in a season-best time of 10.91 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team of Joseph, junior Kevin Bush, freshmen Steve Hartenstine and Anthony Merz placed first in 44.17 seconds. Rediger placed fifth in the high jump at 1.85 meters while freshman Joe Moore tied for sixth at the same height. Other top ten finishers for the Greyhounds were Hartenstine, fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.10 seconds, eighth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 58.67 seconds and ninth in the 200 meters in 23.64 seconds, and Bush third in the 100 meters in 11.08 seconds. Freshman Marty Miller placed sixth in the 5,000 meters in 17:11.9 while freshman Joe Grady was fifth in the 3,00-meter steeplechase in 10:03.0 and junior Chris DeWalt was eighth in 10:26.7. Senior Damon Rutherford placed tenth in the 1,500 meters in 4:09.1.
At 107th Penn Relays No Team Scoring
Moravian's only male entry in the Penn Relays this year was the 4x400-meter relay team of juniors Josh Heebner and Kevin Bush, sophomore George Wacker and freshman Steve Hartenstine. The quartet ran Moravian's best time of the season, placing third in the Pop Haddleton/MAC race in 3:22.81, just over one second out of first place and ten seconds faster than the had run all season.
At Lafayette College Invitational No Team Scoring
Freshman Joe Grady placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:53.3 and junior Kevin Bush was third in the 200 meters in 22.27 seconds to lead the Greyhounds at the Lafayette College Invitational. Freshman Marty Miller ran a 9:47.7 in the 3,000 meters while senior Damon Rutherford was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:59.6 and sophomore Matt Plewinski posted an 11:10.2 in the steeplechase. Freshman Steve Hartenstine was seventh in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 57.92 seconds while sophomore Justin Arnold placed fifth in the 5,000 meters in 17:06.4. In the field events, senior Anthony Rediger placed fourth in the triple jump at 12.99 meters (42 feet, 7 ½ inches) while freshman Joe Moore was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.11 meters (20 feet, ½ inch) and sixth in the high jump with a height of six feet, 1 ½ inches. Sophomore Matt Bowers placed eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 33.8 meters (110 feet, 11 inches).
Host Greyhound Invitational No Team Scoring
Moravian hosted the annual Greyhound Invitational and had three individual winners. Junior Kevin Bush won the 200 meters in 22.55 seconds while senior Damon Rutherford captured the 1,500 meters in 4:09.43. Senior Anthony Rediger won the triple jump at 13.31 meters (43 feet, eight inches). Other top five finishers for the Greyhounds included senior Doug Joseph placing second in the 100 meters in 11.29 seconds and Bush taking fourth in 11.69 seconds. Junior Josh Heebner was fourth in his heat and fifth overall in the 800 meters in a season-best time of 1:57.48 while freshman Sean McDonnell won the fourth heat of the 800 meters in 2:03.94. Freshman Joe Grady was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:46.79 while sophomore Justin Arnold was third in the 10,000 meters in 35:48.06 and freshman Marty Miller placed fourth in the 10,000 in 38:26.45. Freshman Steve Hartenstine was third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in a season-best time of 58.27 and he won his heat of the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.08 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team of Joseph, Bush, Hartenstine and freshman Anthony Merz was second in 43.63 while the 4x800-meter relay squad of Grady, Rutherford, Heebner and sophomore George Wacker placed third in 8:04.9. In the field events, sophomore Matt Bowers placed fifth in the hammer throw at 35.48 meters (116 feet, five inches) while Rediger was fourth and freshman Joe Moore was fifth in the high jump, both clearing six feet, four inches. Rediger placed third in the long jump at 6.26 meters (20 feet, 6 1/2 inches) while Moore was fifth at 6.25 meters (20 feet, 6 1/4 inches). At Princeton University Invitational No Team Scoring
The Greyhounds sent several individuals to compete in the Princeton University Invitational. Senior Anthony Rediger was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.31 meters while senior Doug Joseph placed seventh in the 100 meters in 11.17 seconds. Freshman Steve Hartenstine was 14th in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.22 seconds while Junior Josh Heebner and sophomore George Wacker tied for 12th in the 800 meters a 2:00.0. Freshman Joe Grady placed second and senior Damon Rutherford was fourth in the third heed of the 1,500 meters and the Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team placed sixth at the Princeton Invitational.
At Muhlenberg College Invitational No Team Scoring (Lost to Muhlenberg 92-88 in Matte Award)
The Greyhounds competed at the Muhlenberg College Invitational in the rain and had six first place finishes. Junior sprint Kevin Bush won the 100 meters in a time of 11.24 seconds and he captured the 200 meters in 22.72 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team placed first in 45.09 seconds, defeating rival Muhlenberg by three one-hundredths of a second. Senior Damon Rutherford captured first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a track record of 9:53.03 at Muhlenberg. Freshman Joe Moore won the long jump at 21 feet while senior Anthony Rediger was first in the triple jump with a track record of 42 feet, 8 1/2 inches. In other field events, Rediger was second and Moore was third in the high jump at six feet while freshman Anthony Merz was fifth in the long jump at 19 feet and third in the triple jump at 37 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Sophomore Matt Bowers placed fifth for the Greyhounds in the shot put at 32 feet, 2 1/4 inches. In the track events, senior Dough Joseph placed second in the 100 meters in 11.27 seconds while freshman Steve Hartenstine was second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.81 seconds and second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 59.54 seconds. Junior Josh Heebner placed second in the 400 meters at 50.44 seconds while sophomore George Wacker was fourth in the 1,500 meters in 4:16.30. Freshman Joe Grady took second in the steeplechase at 9:57.38 and junior Chris DeWalt was fourth in the steeplechase at 10:20.14. Moravian's 4x800-meter relay team placed third while the 4x400-meter relay squad was fourth. In scoring for the annual Matte Award Trophy between Moravian and Muhlenberg, the Greyhounds fell by four points, 92-88.
At Susquehanna University Quad Meet 2nd of 4
The Greyhounds opened their 2001 outdoor season with a second place finish at the Susquehanna University Quad Meet. The Greyhounds had several first place finishers in the meet including senior Doug Joseph in the 100 meters in 11.03 seconds and junior Kevin Bush in the 200 meters in 22.30 seconds. Junior Josh Heebner won the 400 meters in 51.72 seconds while sophomore George Wacker was first in the 800 meters in 2:04.52. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team of Joseph, Bush and freshmen Anthony Merz and Steve Hartenstine placed first in 45.62 seconds. Moravian had a host of other top five finishers at the meet. Bush was second in the 100 meters in 11.04 seconds while freshman Joe Grady was second in the 1,500 meters at 4:21.34 and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:24.10. Senior Damon Rutherford switched placed with Grady with the two races, placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:05.51 and third in the 1,500 meters in 4:21.61. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman was third in the 5,000 meters in 15:51.91 while junior Chris DeWalt was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:34.00 and freshman Sean McDonnell was fifth in the 800 meters at 2:07.52. The 4x400-meter relay team of Heebner, Wacker and juniors Jim McIntyre and Chris Colley placed fifth in 3:38.41. In the field events, senior Anthony Rediger was second in the triple jump at 40 feet, 4 ½ inches and second in the high jump at six feet. Merz placed second in the long jump at 18 feet, 7 ¾ inches while freshman Joe Moore was third in the long jump at 18 feet, 6 ½ inches and fourth in the high jump at five feet, ten inches.
At Haverford Last Chance Meet No Team Scores
Junior Josh Heebner was the only Greyhound to compete at the Haverford College Last Chance meet as he tried to qualify for the 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Heebner won the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.2 but he came up short of the NCAA qualifying time.
At Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Widener University 3rd of 10
The Moravian College men’s track & field team placed third in the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships with 65 points behind host Widener University (192) and Messiah College (77). Junior Josh Heebner was the only individual champion for the men’s team, winning the 400 meters in 52.26 seconds. Junior Kevin Bush placed second in the 55 meters in 6.70 seconds while freshman Joe Grady was third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:13.54. Sophomore Matt Bowers placed fourth in the shot put at 41 feet, 2 1/4 inches while senior Anthony Rediger was second in the high jump at six feet, four inches and fourth in the triple jump at 43 feet, eight inches. Freshman Joe Moore was fifth in the long jump at 21 feet, 1/2 inch.
Heebner and Bush combined with sophomore George Wacker and freshman Steve Hartenstine to place third in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:35.45. Bush and Hartenstine combined with freshman Anthony Merz and junior Jim McIntyre to place fifth in the sprint relay at 1:17.80. Grady, Heebner and Wacker were joined by senior Damon Rutherford in the distance medley relay and the quarter placed second in 10:46.33, just .08 seconds out of first place. Rutherford and Grady ran in the 4x800-meter relay with junior Chris DeWalt and sophomore Matt Plewinski for a fourth place finish in 8:29.32. At Keogh Invitational at Haverford No Team Scores
Junior Josh Heebner was fifth in the 800 meters in 1:58.4 while freshman Marty Miller was fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:29.5 to lead the Greyhounds at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford College Friday night. Other competitors in the distance events for the Greyhounds included, senior Damon Rutherford placing 14th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:11.5 and freshman Joe Grady finishing 17th in 4:12.2. Sophomore George Wacker was 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.8 while sophomore Matt Plewinski placed 33rd at 2:06.5 and junior Chris DeWalt was 38th in 2:10.6. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman finished 14th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:11.8 and sophomore Justin Arnold was 34th in 9:55.3. In the sprint races, sophomore Eric Paul placed 22nd in the 400 meters in 55.7 seconds while sophomore Chris McGinnis was 26th in 56.1 seconds. Junior Jim McIntyre placed 35th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.1 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x200-meter relay team of McIntyre, senior Doug Joseph, junior Chris Colley and freshman Steve Hartenstine captured first place with a time of 1:37.0 seconds. Freshman Anthony Merz placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters.
At Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational at Cornell No Team Scores
Sophomore Wes Zimmerman led the way for the Greyhounds at the Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational hosted by Cornell University with a seventh place finish in the 5,000 meters in a season best time of 15:56.10. Freshman Steve Hartenstine ran a 9.33 in the 60-meter high hurdles and he teamed with juniors Josh Heebner and Kevin Bush and sophomore George Wacker to place fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:31.60. Bush was sixth in the first heat of the 400 meters in 53.53 and Heebner followed him in seventh at 57.96. Wacker placed seventh in his section of the 800 meters in 2:02.61. Hartenstine posted a 24.73 in the 200 meters while freshman Anthony Merz had a 26.61. Freshman Joe Grady ran the Greyhounds best time in the mile at 4:33.96 and he was second in his heat. Also running in the mile were junior Chris DeWalt at 4:55.07 and sophomore Matt Plewinski in 4:55.88. Junior Chris Colley ran a 55.86 in the 400 meters while sophomore Chris McGinnis ran a 57.14 and junior Jim McIntyre had a 57.99. The trio joined sophomore Eric Paul to post a 3:47.61 in the 4x400-meter relay. Sophomore Matt Bowers placed fourth in his section of the 35-lb. weight throw with a school record toss of 13.15 meters (43’1 ¾”). Freshman Joe Moore placed second in his flight of the long jump at 6.45 meters (21’2”).
At Dick DeShriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg No Team Scores
The Greyhounds had several top six finishes in the 2nd Annual Dick DeShriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. The distance medley relay team of freshman Joe Grady, sophomore George Wacker, junior Josh Heebner and senior Damon Rutherford was second in a time of 10:35.86. Heebner placed fourth in the 500 meters in 1:06.47 while Wacker was fifth in the 800 meters at 2:02.93. Junior Kevin Bush was sixth in the 200 meters in 23.23 seconds while senior Anthony Rediger placed fourth in the triple jump at 42 feet.
In Greyhound Field Challenge No Team Scores
Senior Anthony Rediger had a good evening for the Greyhounds with a pair of first place finishes in the 2nd Annual Greyhound Field Challenge. Rediger was first in the high jump, clearing six feet, two inches and he won the triple jump with a distance of 13.08 meters. Rediger also placed second in the long jump at 6.48 meters while freshman Anthony Merz was third in the long jump at 6.36 meters. Sophomore John Stanko placed third in the triple jump at 12.43 meters while senior Bill Schmidt was fourth in the shot put at 13.24 meters. At Penn State University National Open No Team Scores
Junior sprinter Kevin Bush was third in his heat and 33rd overall in the 200 meters with a school record time of 22.62 seconds in the mainly NCAA Division I field at the Penn State University National Open last weekend. Bush also finished sixth in his heat of the 60-meter dash and tied for 41st overall with a time of 7.19 seconds. The 4x800-meter relay squad of senior Damon Rutherford, junior Josh Heebner, sophomore George Wacker and freshman Joe Grady placed seventh in the meet at 8:05.46.
At Haverford Open No Team Scores
Junior Josh Heebner won the 400 meters in 51.2 second and he was part of the third place 4x400-meter relay team with a time of 3:30.0 for the Greyhounds as the team competed at the Haverford Open last weekend. Joining Heebner on the 4x400-meter relay team were junior Kevin Bush, sophomore George Wacker and freshman Steve Hartenstine. Bush was fifth in the 55 meters at 6.6 seconds while Wacker placed third in the 800-meters with a time of 2:00.7. Hartenstine placed third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.2 seconds and he was tenth in the 55 meters at 6.7 seconds. Senior Damon Rutherford placed 14th in the 1,500 meters at 4:12.9. In the field events, senior Anthony Rediger won the triple jump with a leap of 12.63 meters and he was fifth in the long jump at 5.89 meters. Rediger also had a sixth place showing in the high jump at five feet, ten inches. Freshman Joe Moore was third in the long jump at 5.99 meters and freshman Anthony Merz placed fourth in the long jump at 5.96 meters. Freshman Taylor Guerin rounded out the Greyhound top ten finishers with a fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 12.50 meters.
At Bucknell/Hershey Relays No Team Scores
Senior Anthony Rediger placed fourth in both the triple jump and the high jump for the Greyhounds at the Bucknell University-Hershey Relays. Rediger had a distance of 42 feet, 8 ½ inches in the triple jump and cleared five feet, 11 inches in the high jump. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:09.41. Junior Josh Heebner was sixth in the 500-meter race with a time of 1:08.48. Heebner also competed in the 4x800-meter relay with senior Damon Rutherford, sophomore George Wacker and freshman Joe Grady to a third place finish in 8:11.77. Moravian’s other two competitors were senior Doug Joseph, who ran a 6.73 in the 55-meter dash while freshman Steve Hartenstine had an 8.46 in the 55-meter high hurdles.
At Haverford College First Chance Meet No Team Scores
Moravian had three runners compete in the Haverford College First Chance Meet with junior Josh Heebner placing second in the 400 meters with a time of 52 seconds to lead the team. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed eighth in the 5,000 meters in 15:57.4 while sophomore George Wacker was 18th in the 1,500 meters in 4:22.3.
At Lafayette Invitational No Team Scores
The Greyhounds opened their 2000-01 indoor season last weekend at the non-scoring Lafayette College Invitational. Senior Anthony Rediger was second in the triple jump at 44 feet, two inches and he placed third in the high jump at six feet, two inches and the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, two inches. Senior Bill Schmidt finished fourth in the shot put at 12.62 meters while sophomore Matt Bowers was fourth in the 35-lb. weight throw with a toss of 12.16 meters. In the running events, sophomore George Wacker was third in the 880-yard run in 2:01.8 while junior Josh Heebner finished fourth in the 600-yard race in 1:15.8. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman rounded out the Moravian place winners with a fourth in the two mile run at 9:54.9.
