At 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships – Final Day Results (6th of 82)         Moravian Individual Results            Meet Website

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team had three competitors on the third and final day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University, and the Greyhounds earned three national championships with two by senior Eric Woodruff and one by junior Gary Zack.

With the three individual champions, Moravian scored 30 points and placed sixth of the 82 schools that earned points in the meet. North Central College won the team national championship with 58 points while The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was second with 56 points. McMurray (TX) University took third with 50 points.

Woodruff, pictured at right, captured a pair of national championships to become the first student-athlete in school history to win more than two NCAA titles. Junior Abigail Schaffer, Anna Heim, Ozzie Brown, Jeff Cullingford and Christina Scherwin each have won two NCAA titles.

Woodruff opened his afternoon by winning his first 100-meter dash title with a winning time of 10.90 seconds. He won the race by two-hundredths of a second, and all eight competitors were separated by just 12 hundredths of a second in the race.

Woodruff then won the 200-meter dash for the third straight year in dominating fashion. After winning his preliminary heat by six-tenths of a second, Woodruff won the national title by half a second with a winning time of 21.55 seconds into a strong headwind. For Woodruff, he completes his career with fourth NCAA titles, three in the 200-meter dash, and he graduates as a seven-time All-American.

Zack, pictured at left, won the javelin throw with his first toss of the meet, a Moravian school record toss of 67.36 meters (221 feet). Zack had the longest throw by two feet, one inch over Lars Tenglin from North Park University, who entered the meet with the top distance in the nation, and Zack earned All-America honors for the first time in his career. Zack competed in the second flight of the preliminaries and actually fouled on his second and third attempts. In the finals, Zack had throws of 60.43, 60.50 and 59.13 meters. The titles by Zack and Woodruff also give Moravian a total of 20 individual national champions with 19 from the track & field programs.

Sophomore Tyler Potterton competed in the javelin as well, placing 14th of 18 competitors with a toss of 57.23 meters (187 feet, nine inches) on his first of three throws in the first preliminary flight. Potterton's other throws were distances of 53.66 and 56.49 meters.

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team had one competitor on the second day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, ran in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash. Woodruff, running in lane eight in the second of three heats, posted a time of 10.67 seconds, winning the heat and placing second of the 21 runners to move into Saturday's final at 3:00 p.m. from lane five.

Woodruff, the two-time defending national champion in the 200-meter dash, will also run in the 200-meter dash finals at 4:05 p.m. with the fastest qualifying time of 21.15 seconds to earn the start in lane four.

 

 

At 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships – First Day Results           Meet Website

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team competed on the opening day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Senior Eric Woodruff, pictured and the two-time defending national champion in the 200-meter dash, won his heat in the preliminaries of the event with a time of 21.15 seconds. Woodruff had the top time in the heat by six tenths of a second, and he had the fastest qualifying time of the three heats by 49 hundredths of a second over Johnathan Smith from Guilford College.

In the 4x100-meter relay preliminaries, Woodruff ran a strong second leg to move Moravian's squad into the lead in its head but a bad exchange to the anchor leg that took place outside of the exchange zone disqualified the Greyhound quartet of Woodruff, junior Kyle D'Angelo, sophomore Justin Taylor and freshman Kristopher Joint, who was running as an injury replacement for junior Nicco Dalpiaz.

Host 2011 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships – 4th of 58    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team finished fourth of 58 teams at the 2011 ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the Greyhounds at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track. The Greyhounds scored 42 points while Bates (Maine) College won the meet with 63 points. Williams (MA) College was second with 44 points while Ithaca College was third with 43.5 points.

Senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, scored 20 of Moravian's points with a pair of sprint championships on the second day of the meet. Woodruff won the 100-meter dash with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 10.63 seconds in his first race of the day. He then set the ECAC meet record, the facility record and ran the fastest time in the country with season with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 20.97 seconds, just nine hundredths of a second shy of qualifying for the USA National Championships.

Junior Timothy Layng, pictured at left, earned another eight points for the Greyhounds with a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying height of 4.77 meters (15 feet, 7 3/4 inches). Freshman Kristopher Joint was 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 13.33 meters (43 feet, nine inches) while sophomore Travis King placed 13th at 13.30 meters (43 feet, 7 3/4 inches).

Junior Steve Ambrosi was 11th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.21 while junior Kyle D'Angelo tied for 16th in the 200-meter dash in 22.59 seconds. Sophomore Donald Noble placed 19th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:12.34 while junior Matthew Lutcza was 25th in the race in 15:32.66.

Host 2011 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships – 2nd of 19 after first day    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team is second of 19 teams scoring points on the opening day of the 2011 ECAC Division III Oudoor Track & Field Championships being hosted by the Greyhounds at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track Thursday. Moravian has 14 points after three events while Connecticut College is in first place with 16 points. The men only completed three of the scheduled six events due to a two-hour weather delay.

The Greyhounds had one individual champion with junior Gary Zack, pictured at right, winning the javelin with a meet record, a school record and NCAA Division III automatic qualifying toss of 66.92 meters (219 feet, seven inches) on his first throw of the competition. Sophomore Tyler Potterton was tenth in the javelin with a toss of 55.49 meters (182 feet) while freshman Timothy Lorah was 15th at 54.33 meters (178 feet, three inches).

On the track, sophomore Donald Noble was fifth in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 31:39.23 to earn four team points while junior Matthew Lutcza was 12th at 32:18.12. In preliminary events, senior Eric Woodruff had the top qualifying time in the 100-meter dash, moving into Friday's finals with a time of 10.98 seconds.

At Tuppany Twilight Last Chance Meet at Swarthmore College – No Team Scores    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team five student-athletes compete at the non-scoring Tuppany Twilight Last Chance Meet hosted by Swarthmore College in the team's final tune-up to the 2011 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships.

Freshman Kristopher Joint had the Greyhounds' top performance, finishing second in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 13.86 meters (45 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Sophomore Travis King, pictured at right, was sixth in the triple jump with an ECAC mark of 13.76 meters (45 feet, 1 3/4 inches).

On the track, sophomore Donald Noble was ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:43.94 while junior Matthew Lutzca was 33rd in the 5,000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 15:13.92. Junior Steve Ambrosi was 25th in the 800-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:53.96.

At 2011 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships at Juniata College – 1st of 6    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team captured its fourth straight Landmark Conference title and seventh outdoor conference championship overall by winning the 2011 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Juniata College. The Greyhounds finished with a team score of 272 points while Susquehanna University was second with 225 points and the host Eagles were third with 137 points.

Moravian had seven individual and two relay champions on the second day of the meet to go with three meet records, one NCAA Division III qualifier and seven ECAC qualifiers. Head coach Walt Wandall and his staff were named the Coaching Staff of the Year

Sophomore Donald Noble, pictured at right, was named the Track Athlete of the Year after winning two distance events on the second day of the meet. Noble won the 5,000-meter run with a Landmark Conference Meet record and ECAC qualifying time of 15:09.19, and he also captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:43.20. Senior Eric Woodruff was also a dual winner, placing first in the 100-meter dash in 11.13 seconds and winning the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 22.18 seconds.

Junior Steve Ambrosi won the 800-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:54.65 while junior Nicco Dalpiaz captured his second title of the meet and first on the track with a win in the 110-meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.34 seconds. Woodruff and Dalpiaz were joined by junior Kyle D'Angelo and sophomore Justin Taylor to win the 4x100-meter relay in an NCAA Division III provisional, ECAC qualifying and Landmark Conference Meet record time of 41.61 seconds. Ambrosi teamed with senior Jacob Tazik and sophomores Alex Macri and Carlos LaLuz to win the 4x400-meter relay in 3:26.13.

Sophomore Travis King, pictured at left, had Moravian's only championship in the field events on the second day of competition, winning the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying and Landmark Conference Meet record distance of 13.93 meters (45 feet, 8 1/2 inches). Freshman Kristopher Joint was second in the triple jump at 13.67 meters (44 feet, 10 1/4 inches) while sophomore Vincent Vasquez was third with a leap of 12.62 meters (41 feet, five inches). Sophomore Jonathan Heberling was fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.78 meters (five feet, ten inches) while King was sixth at 1.68 meters (five feet, six inches).

In the throws, freshman Michael Fritz placed third in the shot put with a toss of 12.56 meters (41 feet, 2 1/3 inches) while freshman Frank Yannotta was fifth at 12.32 meters (40 feet, five inches) and freshman Timothy Lorah placed sixth at 12.19 meters (40 feet). Junior Mike Facchiano took fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 38.48 meters (126 feet, three inches).

Dalpiaz, pictured at right, was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.29 seconds while Taylor was fourth in 11.41 seconds and D'Angelo was sixth in 11.54 seconds. D'Angelo was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 22.87 seconds while Taylor took fifth in 23.29 seconds. LaLuz was fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.35 seconds while Vasquez was fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.47 seconds. Freshman Craig Arner was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 18.19 seconds. Sophomore Evan Lick was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.69 seconds while Vasquez placed sixth in 1:00.21 and junior Christopher Gallogly took seventh in 1:00.49.

Junior Matthew Lutcza was the runner-up to Noble in the 5,000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 15:11.75 while sophomore Dylan Marton took eighth in 16:17.29. Tazik was tenth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.45.

At 2011 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships at Juniata College – 1st of 6 after 1st Day    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team is first of six teams after the first day of competition at the 2011 Landmark Conference Championships being hosted by Juniata College. The Greyhounds have 83 points while Susquehanna University has 73 points. The host Eagles are third with 57 points.

The Greyhounds had two individual champions on the first day of the meet with junior Gary Zack, pictured at right, winning the javelin throw with an NCAA Division III automatic, an ECAC Division III qualifying and Landmark Conference Meet Record distance of 63.37 meters (207 feet, 11 inches). Junior Nicco Dalpiaz captured the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches). Junior Timothy Layng also cleared the same height but was the runner-up with more attempts at the winning height.

Sophomore Tyler Potterton took third in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying toss of 57.03 meters (187 feet, one inch) while freshman Timothy Lorah was sixth at 53.94 meters (177 feet). Freshman Frank Yanotta took fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 36.39 meters (119 feet, five inches). Freshman Kristopher Joint was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 6.48 meters (21 feet, 3 1/4 inches) while sophomore Jonathan Heberling was fourth at 6.20 meters (20 feet, 4 1/4 inches). Sophomore Vincent Vasquez placed fifth in the long jump at 6.12 meters (20 feet, one inch) and was followed by sophomore Travis King in sixth with a leap of 6.10 meters (20 feet. 1/4 inch) and freshman Yacine Zerdoum in seventh with a distance of 6.02 meters (19 feet, nine inches).

On the track, junior Matt Lutcza, pictured at left, was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:04.68 while sophomore Donald Noble was fourth in 4:06/22 and sophomore Alex Macri was sixth in a time of 4:09.86. Sophomore Dylan Marton placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run in 34:38.39.

In prelminary action on the first day of the meet, senior Eric Woodruff had the top qualifying times in both the 100-meter dash (an ECAC qualifying time of 11.03 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.20 seconds). Dalpiaz was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.11 seconds, and he was third in the 200-meter dash in 22.74 seconds to move into the finals on Sunday. Junior Kyle D'Angelo was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 22.74 seconds, and he took fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.35 seconds. Sophomore Justin Taylor advanced in both races as well with times of 11.36 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 23.06 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Carlos LaLuz made the finals in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.44 seconds in the preliminaries.

At Gwynedd-Mercy College Mid-Week Twilight Invitational – 4th of 12    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team had its final tune-up to the 2011 Landmark Conference Championships at the Gwynedd-Mercy College Mid-Week Twilight Invitational Wednesday evening. The Greyhounds placed fourth of 12 teams with 80 points. DeSales University was first with 129 points while Dickinson College was second with 115 points and the host Griffins were third with 92 points.

Moravian had two first place finishers and a trio of ECAC Division III qualifiers. Junior Timothy Layng, pictured at right, won the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.60 meters (15 feet, one inch), and junior Nicco Dalpiaz cleared the same height but in more attempts to finish second. Sophomore Travis King won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 13.91 meters (45 feet, 7 3/4 inches).

In other top ten field results, freshman Kristopher Joint was third in the triple jump at 13.20 meters (43 feet, 3 3/4 inches), and he took eighth in the long jump at 5.89 meters (19 feet, four inches). Sophomore Jonathan Heberling was third in the long jump with a leap of 6.29 meters (20 feet, 7 3/4 inches), and he placed ninth in the triple jump at 12>00 meters (39 feet, 4 1/2 inches) while sophomore Vincent Vasquez took fourth in the long jump at 6.13 meters (20 feet, 1 1/2 inches). Freshman Michael Fritz placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.29 meters (40 feet, fou inches) while sophomore Tyler Potterton was eighth in the discus at 36.62 meters (20 feet, two inches).

On the track, junior Kyle D'Angelo finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.93 seconds while sophomore Justin Taylor was sixth in 23.13 seconds and Dalpiaz took ninth at 23.25 seconds. Taylor also placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.63 seconds while D'Angelo finished tenth at 11.76 seconds. Freshman Yacine Zerdoum took fifth in the 400-meter dash in 51.74 seconds while sophomore Carlos LaLuz was tenth in 52.49 seconds. Junior Steve Ambrosi finished seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:56.37 while junior Matthew Lutcza, pictured at left, was sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:05.81. Vasquez finished fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.87 seconds while freshman Craig Arner was seventh in 18.12 seconds. Vasquez also took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.70 seconds.

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team hosted the second day of the non-scoring Greyhound Invitational at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track Sunday, a day after delaying the meet due to weather. The Greyhound men had a trio of first place finishers, a meet record, a school record, five NCAA Division III qualifying performances and nine ECAC qualifers.

Senior Eric Woodruff won the 200-meter dash in an NCAA automatic qualifying time, an ECAC qualifying time and a meet record time of 21.28 seconds. Woodruff, pictured at right, also broke the school record and hit the NCAA automatic and ECAC qualifying marks in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.48 seconds in the finals to place second by two-hundredths of a second. Woodruff had run an NCAA provisional qualifying time 10.63 seconds. Also on the track, sophomore Donald Noble won the 5,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 15:03.61. Junior Timothy Layng captured the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.65 meters (15 feet, three inches).

Junior Gary Zack, pictured at left, was third in the javelin with an NCAA automatic and ECAC qualifying distance of 63.67 meters (208 feet, 11 inches) while sophomore Tyler Potterton took seventh with an NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying mark of 58.14 meters (190 feet, nine inches). Sophomore Travis King hit an NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying distance of 14.04 meters (46 feet, 3/4 inch) in the triple jump.

Junior Matthew Lutcza was second in the 5,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 15:12.36 while junior Nicco Dalpiaz was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.26 seconds. Junior Steve Ambrosi was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.63 seconds while sophomore Alex amacri took tenth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.79. Moravian's 4x400-meter relay team of Ambrosi, Macri, senior Jacob Tazik and sophomore Carlos LaLuz was tenth in 3:31.54.

Freshman Kristopher Joint was ninth in the triple jump at 13.04 meters (42 feet, 9 1/2 inches) while freshman Yacine Zerdoum took tenth in the long jump at 6.42 meters (21 feet, 3/4 inch). Dalpiaz was third in the pole vault, clearing 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3 1/4 inches).

Host Greyhound Invitational – First Day Results

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team hosted the first day of the non-scoring Greyhound Invitational at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track Friday evening with the hammer throw and shot put.

Junior Gary Zack led the Greyhounds in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.06 meters, which was 12th, while junior Mike Facchiano was 16th at 37.22 meters. Freshman Frank Yannotta was 11th in the shot put with a toss of 12.03 meters while freshman Michael Fritz was 14th at 11.66 meters.

Host Greyhound Invitational – 2nd Day Postponed to April 17th

The Moravian College outdoor track & field teams has postponed the second day of the Greyhound Invitational from Saturday, April 16th until Sunday, April 17th at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track due to the weather forecast for Saturday. Friday's hammer throw and shot put will be competed as scheduled but the remaining field events and all the track events will now be on Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team hosted the second day of the non-scoring Coach P. Open at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track. The Greyhounds had one individual winners, two NCAA qualifiers and eight ECAC qualifiers in the meet.

Senior Eric Woodruff captured the 100-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 10.98 seconds. Junior Gary Zack, pictured at right, took second in the javelin with an NCAA Division III automatic and ECAC qualifying distance of 63.65 meters (208 feet, ten inches) while sophomore Tyler Potterton was third in the javelin with an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying distance of 60.14 meters (197 feet, four inches). Moravian javelin coach Kyle Mazur was first in the javelin with an unattached mark of 64.60 meters (211 feet, 11 inches).

Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of Woodruff, juniors Kyle D'Angelo and Nicco Dalpiaz, pictured at left, and sophomore Vincent Vazquez placed second in an ECAC qualifying time of 42.67 seconds. Dalpiaz also took third in the 110-meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.40 seconds while junior Steve Ambrosi was the runner-up in the 800-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:55.09 and senior Jacob Tazik was fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.24.

Dalpiaz was also eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.34 seconds while sophomore Evan Lick took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.51 seconds. The Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay squad of Ambrozi, Tazik and sophomores Alex Macri and Carlos LaLuz took eighth in a time of 3:27.88.

Dalpiaz was tied for sixth in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches). Sophomore Travis King took second in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 13.96 meters (45 feet, 9 3/4 inches) while freshman Kristopher Joint was sixth at 13.05 meters (42 feet, 9 3/4 inches). Joint also took eighth in the long jump at 6.51 meters (21 feet, 4 1/4 inches).

The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team hosted the first day of the non-scoring Coach P. Open at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track. The Greyhounds competed in three events in the rain on the first night of the meet.

On the track, sophomore Donald Noble, pictured at right, won the 10,000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying and school record time of 31:31.95 while junior Matthew Lutcza was second with an ECAC qualifying time of 31:32.59, the second fastest time in school history. Sophomore Dylan Marton placed 11th in the race in 34:04.22 while junior Zach Rivenbark was 12th in 34:52.17. Senior Jessie Miller placed 15th in a time of 37:00.32.

In the throwing events on the opening evening, junior Gary Zack was ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.47 meters (136 feet, one inch) while freshman Timothy Lorah was 16th at 31.43 meters (103 feet, one inch). Freshman Frank Yanotta led five Greyhounds in the shot put with a toss of 11.94 meters (39 feet, 2 1/4 inches), which placed him 15th while freshman Michael Fritz took 17th at 11.69 meters (38 feet, 4 1/4 inches).

At Lafayette College 9-Way Meet – 6th of 7    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's track & field team opened its 2011 outdoor season at the Lafayette College 9-Way Meet. The Greyhounds finished sixth of seven team with 44.66 points. NCAA Division I Lehigh University won the meet with 143 points, and Moravian was the only NCAA Division III team at the meet.

Junior Gary Zack, pictured at right, placed second in the javelin with an ECAC and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying toss of 60.65 meters (199 feet) while sophomore Tyler Potterton was third in the event with an ECAC and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 59.14 meters (194 feet). Moravian had two other ECAC qualifiers with junior Kyle D'Angleo placing third in the 200-meter dash in 22.24 seconds, and sophomore Travis King taking fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.86 meters (45 feet, 5 3/4 inches).

In other top ten results on the track, junior Steve Ambrosi was the runner-up in the 800-meter run in 1:58.62 while sophomore Alex Macri took fifth in 2:00.04. Junior Matthew Lutcza was fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:07.68 while sophomore Donald Noble finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:09.60. Junior Nicco Dalpiaz was tenth in the 100-meter dash in 11.16 seconds, and he was seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.77 seconds.

In the field events, Dalpiaz and junior Timothy Layng tied for sixth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3 1/4 inches). King, pictured at left, took ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.23 meters (20 feet, 5 1/4 inches). Freshman Frank Yannotta was tenth in the shot put at 12.21 meters (40 feet, 3/4 inch) while Zack was tied for tenth in the hammer throw with a toss of 40.08 meters (131 feet, six inches).

At 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Capital University – Tied for 56th of 66    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team finished tied for 56th of 66 teams scoring points at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Capital University.

The Greyhounds scored two points while North Central College won the meet with 55 points. Central (IA) College came in second as a team with 44 points.

Moravian senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, earned All-America honors in the 55-meter dash, placing seventh in a time of 7.70 seconds.  Woodruff had tied for fourth in the preliminaries at 6.42 seconds but an injury last weekend at the ECAC Championships slowed him running for the second time in 24 hours. Woodruff had the fastest time prior to the championships at 6.37 seconds. 

Woodruff, who is the two-time defending champion in the 200 meters outdoors, earned All-America honors for the fifth time in his career, and the first time indoors.

 

At 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Capital University – First Day Results    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team has two competitors on the first day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Capital University.

Senior Eric Woodruff, pictured, was third in his heat and tied for fourth overall in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.42 seconds. Woodruff, the two-time defending NCAA Champion outdoors in the 200-meter dash, entered the meet with the top time in the country in the 55-meter dash this season, and he will run in the first of two final heats on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.

Junior Timothy Layng made his first appearance in the NCAA Championships in the pole vault. Layng tied for tenth clearing 4.72 meters (15 feet, 5 3/4 inches).

 

At 2011 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships hosted by New York University – 14th of 53    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team finished 14th of 53 teams scoring a point at the 2011 ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by New York University at the New Balance Armory in New York City. The Greyhounds scored 19 points while Buffalo State University won the championship with 77 points. Bates College was second with 49 points while The College of New Jersey took third at 45.5 points.

In the second day of competition on Saturday, senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, won the 55-meter dash and earned ten points for the men in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 6.39 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second slower that his preliminary time on Friday that is the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. 

Woodruff entered the 200-meter dash with the fastest time heading into the meet but pulled up in the second turn and dropped out of the race.  Senior Warner Jones did finish 13th with a season best time of 22.55 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Also for the Moravian men, junior Matthew Lutcza placed 14th in the mile run in 4:20.47 while sophomore Donald Noble was 24th in the event in 4:25.94.  Junior Steve Ambrosi finished tenth in the 800-meter run in 1:55.53 while sophomore Alex Macri was 20th in the race with a time of 2:02.58.

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team is 13th of 31 teams scoring a point after the first day of competition at the 2011 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships being hosted by New York University at the New Balance Armory in New York City. The Greyhounds scored nine points on the opening day of competition while Bate College is first at 30 points and Rochester Insititute of Technology is second with 25 points.

Moravian’s top performance was by senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash.  Woodruff ran a school record, Armory record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 6.37 seconds to place first in the preliminaries with the fastest time in the nation this season.  Woodruff will run in the finals on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Three Greyhound men earned points on the opening day with sophomore Donald Noble winning his heat and placing fifth overall in the 5,000-meter run with a school record time of 14:52.71 to earn four points.  Junior Timothy Layng also earned four points for a fifth place in the pole vault at a school record height of 4.82 meters (15 feet, 11 ¼ inches) while sophomore Travis King, pictured at left, picked up one point for an eighth place in the triple jump at a distance of 13.91 meters (45 feet, 7 ¾ inches).

In other opening day action, junior Nicco Dalpiaz was tied for 13th in the pole vault at 4.56 meters (14 feet, 11 ½ inches) while junior Matthew Lutcza was 19th in the 5,000-meter run in 15:12.53. Sophomore Justin Taylor was 13th in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.58 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x200-meter relay team was in the sixth and final heat of the day but did not finish after a failed exchange after the first leg of the event.

At 2011 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University – 1st of 6    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team captured their second straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship winning the 2011 meet hosted by Susquehanna University. The Greyhounds, who have won a total of eight indoor conference titles, scored 230.25 points while the host Crusaders were second with 125.50 points. Senior Eric Woodruff was named the 2011 Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Year while freshman Kristopher Joint was Tri-Rookie of the Year for Moravian.

The Greyhounds captured every individual event on the track with Woodruff, pictured at left, winning two events, the 55-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 6.43 seconds and the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying mark of 22.12 seconds. Sophomore Donald Noble also won a pair of events, capturing the mile run in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:22.04 and winning the 5,000-meter run in 15:23.82. Senior Warner Jones won the 400-meter dash in 51.35 seconds while junior Nicco Dalpiaz finished first in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.09 seconds.

Junior Steve Ambrosi won the 800-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:56.37 while Woodruff, Jones, junior Kyle D'Angelo and sophomore Justin Taylor captured the 4x200-meter relay in a meet record, school record and ECAC qualifying time of 1:30.56. Ambrosi, senior Jacob Tazik, junior Christopher Gallogly and sophomore Alex Macri won the 4x800-meter relay in 8:21.06.

Moravian also won two field events with Joint capturing the triple jump with a leap of 13.38 meters (43 feet, 10 3/4 inches), and junior Timothy Layng winning the pole vault with an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying height of 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches). Dalpiaz was the runner-up in the pole vault with an ECAC mark of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches) while sophomore Jonathan Heberling took third in the high jump at 1.83 meters (six feet).

In other scoring in field events, Joint was the runner-up in the long jump at 6.37 meters (20 feet, 10 3/4 inches) while sophomore Vincent Vazquez placed third at 6.25 meters (20 feet, 6 1/4 inches). Freshman Timothy McDonough was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.24 meters (20 feet, 5 3/4 inches) whiel freshman Yacine Zerdoum took fifth at 6.21 meters (20 feet, 4 1/2 inches). Junior Jordan Barton was fourth in the triple jump at 12.39 meters (40 feet, 7 3/4 inches) while Vazquez was fifth at 12.34 meters (40 feet, six inches).

Freshman Timothy Lorah was third in the shot put with a toss of 12.65 meters (41 feet, six inches) while freshman Frank Yannotta was sixth at 12.34 meters (40 feet, six inches). Junior Gary Zack, pictured at right, placed fourth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.46 meters (44 feet, two inches) while sophomore Tyler Potterton was fifth at 13.28 meters (43 feet, seven inches).

On the track, Moravian had numerous scoring places with junior Matthew Lutcza finishing second in the mile run with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:22.78, and he was second in the 5,000-meter run in 15:29.99. Taylor was the runner-up in the 55-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 6.56 seconds, and he was also second in the 200-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying mark of 22.95 seconds. Tazik had a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run in 1:57.25 while Macri was fourth at 1:58.53. Jones placed third in the 200-meter dash in 23.10 seconds while Dalpiaz was sixth in 23.54 seconds.

Vazquez took third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.54 seconds while freshman Craig Arner placed fifth in 8.74 seconds. Moravian's 4,000-meter distance medley relay squad of Gallogly, junior Zach Rivenbark and sophomores Dylan Marton and Graham Matthews finished fifth in a time of 11:22.06.

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team competed in its final tune-up to the 2011 Landmark Conference Championships at the non-scoring Susquehanna University Indoor Open Saturday afternoon. The trip was the second of three straight to Selinsgrove for the Greyhounds.

Moravian had one event winner at the meet with junior Nicco Dalpiaz capturing the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches).

In other top ten field results, sophomore Travis King, pictured at right, was the runner-up in the triple jump at an ECAC qualifying distance of 13.53 meters (44 feet, 4 3/4 inches) while sophomore Vincent Vasquez was fifth at 12.85 meters (42 feet, two inches). Freshman Kristopher Joint placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.42 meters (40 feet, nine inches) while sophomore Jordan Barton was ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.08 meters (19 feet, 11 1/2 inches).

On the track, junior Matthew Lutcza was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:03.03 while Moravian's 4x800-meter relay squad of senior Jacob Tazik, junior Steve Ambrosi and sophomores Alex Macri and Donald Noble placed third in 8:13.36. Sophomore Justin Taylor was sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.97 seconds after placing fourth in the preliminaries in 6.75 seconds, and Taylor finished sith in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.52 seconds. Dalpiaz was tenth in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles in 8.34 seconds.

At Susquehanna University Indoor Invitational – No Team Scores    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team competed in the non-scoring Susquehanna University Indoor Invitational in the team's second meet of the weekend. Freshman Kristopher Joint had the team's top finish with a runner-up showing in the triple jump with a leap of 13.04 meters (42 feet, 9 1/2 inches) while junior Jordan Barton was seventh in the event at 11.92 meters (39 feet, 1 1/4 inches).

Joint also placed third in the long jump at a distance of 6.09 meters 919 feet, 11 3/4 inches) while freshman Yacine Zerdoum took third at 6.07 meters (19 feet, 11 inches) and sophomore Timothy McDonough was fifth with a leap of 6.05 meters (19 feet, 10 1/4 inches).

Freshman Michael Fritz finsihed seventh in the shot put at 12.82 meters (42 feet, 3/4 inch) while freshman Frank Yanotta took eighth at 12.40 meters (40 feet, 8 1/4 inches). Junior Gary Zack, pictured above, placed ninth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.03 meters (39 feet, 5 3/4 inches).

On the track, Zerdoum was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.83 seconds while McDonough was sixth at 23.97 seconds. Zerdoum also placed seventh in the 400-meter dash in 52.99 seconds while McDonough was ninth in a time of 54.76 seconds. Freshman Craig Arner was ninth in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles in 8.90 seconds.

At Lafayette College-Rider University Winter Games at NYC Armory – No Team Scores    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team competed in the College non-scoring Lafayette College-Rider University Winter Games at the NYC Armory. The Greyhounds had three first-place finishes, one NCAA Division III qualifier, nine ECAC qualifiers and set four school records in the meet.

Senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, set a pair of school record for Moravian, winning the 60-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 6.87 seconds, and capturing the 200-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 21.55 seconds. The Greyhounds' other school records were by junior Matthew Lutcza in the mile run with in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:20.00 to finish eighth and sophomore Donald Noble in the 5,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 15:12.37, which placed him eighth. Noble's time broke a record set last weekend by Lutcza in the 5,000-meter run.

Sophomore Travis King, pictured at left, captured the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 13.92 meters (45 feet, eight inches) while junior Timothy Layng was fourth in the pole vault, clearing an ECAC qualifying height of 4.50 meters (14 feet, nine inches). Junior Steve Ambrosi was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:55.18 while sophomore Alex Macri was third in the race in an ECAC qualifying mark of 1:56.41. Senior Warner Jones placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 22.70 seconds.

Senior Jacob Tazik placed seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:58.37 while Jones was ninth in the 400-meter dash in 50.76 seconds. Woodruff, Jones, Ambrosi and Tazik combined for a time of 3:28.78 in the 4x400-meter relay, placing fifth. Sophomore Jonathan Heberling placed fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.79 meters (five feet, 10 1/2 inches), and he was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.57 meters (21 feet, 6 3/4 inches).

At Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tri-Meet – 3rd of 3    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team placed third of three regionally ranked teams at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tri-Meet. The Greyhounds, ranked fourth in the Mideast Region, had 78.5 points while host MIT, ranked second in the New England Region, placed first with 186.5 points, and Williams College, third in the New England Region, was second with 110 points.

Moravian had four first place finishes, one school record, six ECAC qualifiers and three NCAA qualifiers. Junior Matthew Lutcza, pictured at right, set the school record in the 5,000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 15:17.64 while senior Eric Woodruff captured the 55-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 6.43 seconds and the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 22.17 seconds. Junior Nicco Dalpiaz captured the pole vault and junior Timothy Layng was the runner-up as both cleared an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying height of 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches). Dalpiaz won the event on fewer jumps. Sophomore Travis King was third in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 13.76 meters (45 feet, 1 3/4 inches).

In top-six scoring places on the track, Dalpiaz was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.41 seconds, and he was fourth in the 55-meter dash in 6.77 seconds. Senior Warner Jones was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 52.50 seconds, and he was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 23.55 seconds. Junior Steve Ambrosi was second in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:58.46 while sophomore Alex Macri tied for fourth in 2:00.87. Sophomore Donald Noble was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run in 8:50.28, missing the ECAC qualifying time by 28 hundredths of a second, and sophomroe Dylan Marton took fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 16:10.15. Ambrosi, Jones, Woodruff, pictured at left, and freshman Yacine Zerdoum combined to place second in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:30.42.

Sophomore Jonathan Heberling was second in the high jump, clearing 1.81 meters (five feet, 11 1/4 inches) while King took fifth at 1.71 meters (five feet, 7 1/4 inches). Heberling also took third in the long jump at 6.35 meters (20 feet, ten inches) while freshman Kristopher Joint took sixth at 6.11 meters (20 feet, 1/2 inch). Joint was fifth in the triple jump at 13.06 meters (42 feet, 10 1/4 inches).

At Thomson Invitational hosted by The University of Delaware – 2nd of 16 (DII/DIII)    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team placed second of 16 NCAA Division II and Division III teams at the Thomson Invitational hosted by The University of Delaware. The Greyhounds scored 114 points, trailing only East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in the DII/DIII standings. St. Francis (PA) University had the top point total overall with 172 points.

The Greyhounds had five individual champions and six ECAC qualifiers in the meet. Senior Eric Woodruff captured both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes for the third straight meet with ECAC qualifying times of 7.02 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 22.16 seconds in the 200-meter dash, both of which were the fastest men's times in the meet. Moravian's other event winners included sophomore Alex Macri winning the 500-meter dash in 1:09.24, junior Steve Ambrosi capturing the 1,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:35.69 and junior Nicco Dalpiaz winning the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 4.65 meters (15 feet, three inches).

The Greyhounds' other two ECAC qualifiers were junior Timothy Layng in the pole vault at a height of 4.50 meters (14 feet, nine inches), which was the runner-up to Dalpiaz, and sophomore Travis King, pictured at right, in the triple jump with a leap of 13.64 meters (44 feet, nine inches).

Senior Warner Jones, pictured at left, placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 52.65 seconds, and he was ninth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.57 seconds. Junior Matthew Lutcza finished third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:03.16, and he was fourth in the mile run at 4:25.75 while sophomore Donald Noble was sixth in the mile with a time of 4:29.01. Dalpiaz was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.99 seconds.

Moravian had two 4x400-meter relay squads finish in the top ten. The B relay of Woodruff, Jones, junior Kyle D'Angelo and freshman Yacine Zerdoum was fourth in 3:36.36 while the A relay of Ambrosi, Macri, senior Jacob Tazik and sophomore Timothy McDonough was just four-tenths of a second back in fifth place.

Sophomroe Jonathan Heberling finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.89 meters (six feet, 2 1/4 inches), and he was the runner-up in the long jump at 6.43 meters (21 feet, 1 1/4 inches). Junior Michael Facchiano placed sixth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 10.63 meters (34 feet, 10 1/2 inches) while sophomore Tyler Potterton took seventh at 10.38 meters (34 feet, 3/4 inch). Freshman Michael Fritz placed seventh in the shot put with a toss of 11.59 meters (38 feet, 1/4 inch).

At Mountain Hawk Multi & Invitational hosted by Lehigh University – No Team Scores    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team returned to action at the non-scoring Mountain Hawk Multi & Invitational hosted by Lehigh University as the Greyhounds saw their first action in seven weeks. Moravian had three individual winners with senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, winning two events. Woodruff captured the 60-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional, an ECAC qualifying and school record time of 6.89 seconds after a 7.06 race in the preliminary, and he won the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 22.33 seconds. Junior Timothy Layng won the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.60 meters (15 feet, one inch).

In other top ten sprint results, senior Warner Jones took fifth in the 400-meter dash in 52.72 seconds, and he was seventh in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.54 seconds. Junior Kyle D'Angelo, pictured below, was tenth in the 200-meter dash in 23.83 while junior Nicco Dalpiaz was eighth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.13 seconds. Junior Steve Ambrosi was fourth in the 500-meter dash in 1:09.41 while senior Jacob Tazik placed fifth in the race in 1:10.34 and sophomore Alex Macri finished eighth in a time of 1:10.57.

Junior Matthew Lutcza placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:26.81. Junior Zach Rivenbark was eighth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:28.34 while sophomore Dylan Marton took tenth in 17:03.06. Moravian's 4x400-meter B relay team of Ambrosi, Jones, Woodruff and senior Timothy McDonough was second in a time of 3:38.71 while the A relay squad of Tazik, Macri, sophomore Carlos LaLuz and sophomore Justin Taylor took third in 3:39.02.

Dalpiaz was tied for third in pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.45 meters (14 feet, 7 1/4 inches) while freshman Michael Fritz took eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.10 meters (39 feet, 8 1/2 inches). Sophomore Jonathan Heberling took second in the long jump at 6.63 meters (21 feet, nine inches), and he was sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.84 meters (six feet, 1/2 inch). Junior Jordan Barton was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.34 meters (20 feet, 9 3/4 inches) while sophomore Vincent Vasquez placed eighth at 6.18 meters (20 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and McDonough took ninth at 6.17 meters (20 feet, three inches).

At Lehigh University Season Opener – No Team Scores    Moravian Individual Results        Complete Meet Results

Moravian began the 2010-11 season at the six-team, non-scoring Lehigh University Season Opener. The Greyhounds had four individual champions, one NCAA qualifier and three ECAC Division III qualifiers. Senior Eric Woodruff, pictured at right, won the 60-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional, and ECAC qualifying and school record time of 6.94 seconds. Woodruff also won the 200-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 22.66 seconds while junior Timothy Layng won the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches).

Sophomore Justin Taylor won his heat and finished fourth overall in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.17 seconds, and Taylor was first in his heat and runner-up to Woodruff in the 200-meter dash in 23.46 seconds. Taylor placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 52.80 seconds. Junior Nicco Dalpiaz was seventh in the 60-meter dash in 7.32 seconds, sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.80 seconds and tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 4.25 meters (13 feet, 11 1/4 inches). Senior Warner Jones was ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.33 seconds while freshman Yacine Zerdoum was ninth in the 200-meter dash in 24.24 seconds.

Junior Steve Ambrosi placed third in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:37.45, and he was tenth in the 800-meter run in 2:09.66. Sophomore Graham Matthews took tenth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:51.90 while junior Kyle D'Angelo was fifth in the pole vault at 3.80 meters (12 feet, 5 1/2 inches).

Sophomore Travis King, pictured at left, finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.37 meters (43 feet, 10 1/2 inches) while sophomore Timothy McDonough was fourth in the long jump at 6.43 meters (21 feet, 1 1/4 inches). Sophomore Jonathan Heberling was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters (20 feet, nine inches) while junior Jordan Barton was seventh at 6.29 meters (20 feet, 7 3/4 inches). Zerdoum placed eighth in the long jump at 6.22 meters (20 feet, five inches).

With the weather warm enough at the start of the meet, the teams went outside to throw the javelin, and Moravian junior Gary Zack won the event with a toss of 57.96 meters (190 feet, two inches). Sophomore Tyler Potterton was third at 50.91 meters (167 feet) while freshman Timothy Lorah was fourth at 47.81 meters (156 feet, ten inches).

In the other throws events, freshman Michael Fritz was seventh in the shot put with a toss of 12.13 meters (39 feet, 9 3/4 inches) while Lorah took eighth at 10.80 meters (35 feet, 5 1/4 inches). Junior Michael Facchiano was ninth in the shot put with a distance of 10.40 meters (34 feet, 1 1/2 inches) while freshman Samuel Ansman was tenth at 8.55 meters (28 feet, 3/4 inch).
