Why did you choose to come to Moravian College?
I chose Moravian because I really enjoyed the entire Moravian community. I had a really good visit with the athletic department, and loved the track program and my visit with Coach Pollard. Coach Pollard really made me feel at home when I was here and made me feel that I was important to his program. I also enjoyed the small class sizes that give the students more interaction with the professors.
What is you major and how did you decide on it?
I am majoring in Sociology because I am interested in going into some sort of ministry and it gives a good base understanding of how different groups of people interact.
What has been your favorite course at Moravian and why?
My favorite course has been Criminal Law and Society taught by Judge Giordano. It was a really interesting class taught by an adjunct teacher who is a county judge. He made it very practical and his real life experiences helped me understand the material better.
What are your plans for the future once you finish your degree at Moravian?
I plan to work for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) a sports ministry organization and coaching either on the high school or college level. I have interned for FCA the past two summers and really enjoyed my experience.
What is your most memorable moment as a Greyhound?
My most memorable moment was last year’s indoor Landmark Conference championship meet at Susquehanna. Mainly because it was my first two individual conference championships and it was also our team’s first team championship since 1993. It was a really special time because it was our team’s first championship meet since Coach Pollard passed away and it was a really great moment when we knew we had accomplished the goals he set out for us in the beginning of the season. He would have been very proud of the way we performed that day.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student?
In college it takes a lot of discipline to be a student athlete, so the discipline that I have learned from athletics really has applied to the classroom. As an athlete you are expected to be a leader so being a leader on and off the field has really helped me in the classroom. I also believe it teaches you to become a well rounded person, being successful in the classroom is just as important as being successful in track.
What advice do you have for a prospective Moravian College student-athlete?
I would say make sure that you ask a lot of questions to the coaches, athletic department staff and college staff. They are very helpful and are here to make sure that your Moravian experience is successful. So don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice, there are a lot of people that are here that truly care about you and want to help in whatever way possible.
