2005 Review

The 2005 Moravian College volleyball squad posted a successful 21-10 overall record and finished fourth in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-3 mark in league play under head coach Shelley Bauder. Moravian qualified for the league tournament, but was eliminated by the defending national champions from Juniata College, who went on to finish second in the nation in 2005.

The lone senior on the 2005 squad was middle hitter Lindsey Siracusa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury HS). Siracusa accumulated several post-season honors including being named the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Student Scholar-Athlete for volleyball. In addition, Siracusa was named for the second consecutive year to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America squad as an honorable mention. She was also selected to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team and the Coaches Association’s All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team.

On the season Siracusa had 375 kills, 59 digs, 42 service aces, 112 blocks and a .288 hitting percentage. For her career, Siracusa accumulated a school-record 1,553 kills along with 420 blocks (second all-time), 326 digs, 150 service aces and 50 assists.

The other Greyhound selected to a Commonwealth All-Conference squad was junior outside hitter Kelly Bauer (Hellertown, PA/Notre Dame HS), who made the Second Team. On the year, Bauer, a transfer from Slippery Rock University, had 410 kills, 27 assists, 41 service aces, 352 digs and five blocks.

In addition, the Greyhounds received key performances from junior setter Valerie Korsak (Coplay, PA/Whitehall HS), who led the team with 1,114 assists on the season and also had 137 kills, 196 digs, 53 blocks and 43 service aces; sophomore outside hitter Rachel Radocha (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS), who had 276 kills, 229 digs and 36 service aces; and sophomore middle hitter Jenna Wallace (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), who had 234 kills and 68 blocks on the year.

The Greyhounds also received contributions from juniors Ashley Hugo (Bath, PA/Northampton HS) and Jodie Elstner (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS); sophomores Christa Burke (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS), Elise Martin (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) and Katherine Perkins (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton HS); and freshmen Stephanie Struble (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) and Elisa Molchany (North Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS).

Freshman outside hitter Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) missed most of the 2005 season due to an injury. Hugo contributed 190 digs and 15 service aces while Burke had 127 digs and 31 service aces. Martin added 136 digs for the Greyhounds.

Moravian had six student-athletes named to the 2005 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll including Bauer, Hugo, Korsak, Martin, Perkins and Siracusa.
