Vs. King's College in ECAC Division III Southern Championship hosted by Albright College - Won 86-64    Boxscore

The seventh seeded Greyhounds pulled of their third straight upset of a higher ranked team, this time defeating top seeded King's College, 86-64, to capture the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Southern Championship hosted by Albright College. The title is Moravian's second ECAC Championship as the program won the 1987 crown, and this was Moravian's sixth trip to the finals in ten ECAC Southern Championship appearances. The Greyhounds scored first but King's would have a pair of one-point leads, first at 3-2, then 5-4. Moravian then went on a 9-0 run to take a 13-5 lead with 13:26 remaining in the first half, and the Greyhounds controlled the game from that point. Moravian quickly pushed its lead to double digits and was up 35-14 with 4:02 still to play in the first half. The Greyhounds went to the locker room with a 46-24 lead after shooting 16 of 38 from the field (42.1 percent), four of ten behind the three-point line and ten of 13 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. Moravian also had a 29-15 advantage in rebounds with the Greyhounds committing just seven turnovers to 11 for the Monarchs. King's connected on nine of 28 field goal attempts in the first half, two of 11 three-pointers and four of six free throws. The Monarchs started the second half with a 9-2 run to pull within 48-33, but King's would not get any closer. Moravian's lead eventually reached 34 points on three occasions, the final time at 84-50 with 4:44 to play. The Greyhounds were 12 of 36 from the field (33.3 percent), two of seven three-pointers and 14 of 17 free throws in the second half. Moravian also finished the game with a 55-39 advantage in rebounds and had just 11 turnovers while forcing King's into 16 turnovers. The Monarchs were 11 of 32 from the floor, three of 14 on three-pointers and 15 of 21 at the foul line in the final 20 minutes. The Greyhounds had four players in double figures led by senior forward Kelly Applegate, who netted a game high 24 points. With 9:36 left in the game, Applegate moved into fifth in career scoring at Moravian and finishes her career with 1,529 points. Applegate also had three rebounds to finish with a career total of 694, and she added three assists and three steals in the victory. Freshman guard Amanda Brown tossed in 15 points on five three-pointers and had three rebounds while freshmen forward Alyssa Bisci and Kirsty Stearns each scored 12 points. Stearns added nine rebounds while Bisci, whose 12 points was a career high, grabbed four boards. Moravian senior forward Jenny Hackleman was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player and had eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Greyhound win. Hackleman finishes her career third all-time in rebounding at Moravian with 814, and she is 11th in scoring with 1,161 points. Freshman guard Jessica Foran added six points for the Greyhounds while senior guard Katie Rizman had five points and three rebounds. Junior guard La'Toya Blake contributed five assists, five rebounds and three steals in the win. Guard Kaitlyn Fiorino led King's with 15 points and six rebounds while forward Casey Heitman and guard Lauren Kendra each scored 11 points. Forward Andrea Hochstuhl had ten points and six rebounds for the Monarchs while Brittany Atzert tossed in nine points. Forward Sarah Darling had a game high four blocked shots to go with five rebounds and four points.

At Albright College in ECAC Division III Southern Semifinals - Won 71-60    Boxscore

Seventh seeded Moravian pulled off another upset, this time defeating third seed Albright College, 71-60, to advance to the championship game of the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Southern Championships. The Greyhounds will be playing in the title game for the sixth time in ten trips to the ECAC Southern Championships; however, Moravian has won just one title back in 1987. The last time the Greyhounds played in the title game was back in 2005. Moravian will play top seed King's College, a 68-62 winner over fourth seed Washington & Jefferson College in the other semifinal contest. In the semifinal game, Albright jumped out to an early lead and held a 17-8 advantage with 14:28 remaining in the first half. The Greyhounds responded with an 18-2 run to take a 26-19 lead with 5:10 before halftime. Moravian's lead would reach nine points, 32-23, with 2:10 left in the first half after a pair of free throws by freshman guard Kate Harrison. The Greyhounds went to the locker room with a 34-29 lead after shooting 12 of 32 from the field (37.5 percent), two of eight behind the three-point line and eight of ten at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. Albright, which had a 26-23 advantage in rebounds at halftime, was 14 of 41 from the floor, one for five on three-pointers and missed its only free throw attempt in the first half. Moravian came out and scored the first four points of the second half to take its first double-digit lead of the game, 39-29, on a pair of free throws by senior forward Jenny Hackleman with 18:49 remaining in the game. The Lions answered with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 41-41 with 14:47 on the clock. Moravian came right back with an 11-2 run to take a 52-43 lead on a pair of free throws by freshman forward Kirsty Stearns with 11:49 remaining. The Greyhounds would eventually push the lead to 16 points at 61-45 with 8:25 to play. Moravian made 11 of 26 field goal attempts (42.3 percent), three of five three-pointers and 12 of 16 free throws in the final 20 minutes. Albright, which had a slight 45-44 edge in rebounds was 11 of 30 from the floor and nine of 13 at the foul line in the second half while missing its only three-point attempt. The Greyhounds had three players in double figures led by freshman guard Jessica Foran with 15 points to go with three rebounds. Hackleman had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Hackleman, who had three assists, became the third player in school history with 800 career rebounds, now with 807, and moved into 11th in scoring with 1,153 points. Senior forward Kelly Applegate tossed in 12 points to become the sixth player in school history to score 1,500 points, now with 1,505, and she grabbed eight rebounds to improve her career total to 691. Harrison and freshman guard Amanda Brown each had nine points and three rebounds with Harrison adding two assists. Stearns contributed eight points and three rebounds while senior guard Katie Rizman had three points and two rebounds. Junior guard La'Toya Blake added three assists, two rebounds and two steals in the win. Forward Jaqueline Hardwick led Albright with a game high 16 points, and she added 13 rebounds for a double-double. Guard Marie Levins tossed in 11 points for the Lions while forward Staci Waligorski had ten points and five rebounds.

At Penn State Behrend in ECAC Division III Southern Quarterfinals - Won 72-56    Boxscore

The seventh seeded Greyhounds overcame a nine-point deficit to start the game to defeat second seeded Penn State Behrend, 72-56, in a quarterfinal game of the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Division III Southern Championship. Moravian advances to the ECAC Southern Semifinals for the fourth time in five years and the last four times Moravian has played in tournament. The Greyhounds will play third seeded Albright College, a 98-73 winner over sixth seed Neumann College. The other semifinal final will feature top seed King's College, a 64-50 winner over Villa Julie College, and fourth seeded Washington & Jefferson College, a 69-57 winner versus fifth seed Cabrini College. The semifinals and championship will be played at Albright College on Friday and Saturday March 2nd and 3rd. In the quarterfinal game, the Lions jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead before the Greyhounds scored at the 16:24 mark on a lay-up by senior forward Kelly Applegate. Moravian eventually tied the game at 14-14 with 9:58 remaining in the first half on a pair of free throws by senior forward Jenny Hackleman, and the Greyhounds would take a 17-14 lead on a three-pointer by senior guard Katie Rizman 40 seconds later. Penn State Behrend forced a 19-19 tie but Moravian took the lead for good on a jumper by freshman guard Kate Harrison with 7:06 until the intermission. The Greyhounds pushed their first half lead to 30-21 with 2:14 remaining; however, Moravian did not score the rest of the half and went to the locker room with a 30-27 lead. The Greyhounds made ten of 27 field goal attempts (37.0 percent), two of seven three-pointers and eight of ten free throws in the first 20 minutes. Moravian also had a 17-16 edge in rebounds in the first half and committed just eight turnovers to ten for the Lions. Penn State Behrend was ten of 25 from the floor, two of four on three-pointers and five of six at the foul line in the first half. The Greyhounds came out of the locker room in the second half and quickly pushed the lead to double digits at 39-27 with 17:24 still to play. The Lions would pull back within six points, 41-35, at the 14:40 mark before Moravian began to pull away. Hackleman made a pair of free throws with 1:55 remaining in the game to give Moravian its largest lead of the contest, 19 points, 70-51. The Greyhounds connected on 18 of 31 field goal attempts (58.1 percent), two of four three-pointers and four of five free throws in the second half. Both teams had 31 rebounds for the game; however, Moravian made just 15 turnovers for the game while Penn State Behrend committed 22 turnovers. Moravian had three players in double figures led by Applegate with a game high 16 points. Applegate added seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots, and she now has 1,493 points (6th all-time) and 683 rebounds (7th all-time) in her career. Freshman guard Jessica Foran tossed in 12 points for the Greyhounds to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals while freshman forward Kirsty Stearns returned from an injury with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Harrison, Rizman and freshman guard Amanda Brown each had eight points with Harrison adding four assists and three steals. Hackleman moved into 12th all-time in scoring with seven points to give her 1,140 in her career, and Hackleman moved into third all-time at Moravian in rebounds with seven in the victory to boost her career total to 794. Hackleman also dished out four assists for the Greyhounds. Junior guard La'Toya Blake had four rebounds, two points and two assists for Moravian. The Lions had four players in double figures with 13 points each from Brittany Mays and Victoria Innes. Mays also had a game high ten rebounds for Penn State Behrend. Megan Beilanin and Julia Andrus each netted 11 points for the Lions.

Moravian, seeded third in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, fell to top seed Messiah College, 79-57, in the 2007 Commonwealth Conference Championship game. The Greyhounds were playing in their fifth straight conference championship contest. Messiah, ranked fifth in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, wins its third straight Commonwealth title and earns the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. Moravian has to wait until Monday to see if the team will be awarded one of eight bids to the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Southern Championships that will begin on Wednesday, February 28th. Messiah had the lead for the first half, and the Falcons led 31-26 at halftime. Messiah was 13 of 30 from the floor, one of seven on three-pointers and four of six at the foul line in the first half. Moravian shot just ten of 33 from the field (30.3 percent) in the first 20 minutes, three of eight behind the three-point line and three of six at the foul line. The Greyhounds did have a 23-19 advantage in rebounds at the intermission, and both teams committed 12 first half turnovers. Moravian came out of the locker room quickly to start the second half, pulling within one-point at 33-32, with 18:24 still to play. However, the Falcons slowly pulled away late in the second half, putting the game away at the foul line. Messiah shot even better in the second half, making 15 of 32 field goals, one of six three-pointers and 17 of 19 free throws. The Falcons also committed just three turnovers in the final 20 minutes. Moravian also shot better following the intermission, making ten of 26 field goal attempts (38.5 percent) and 11 of 14 free throws. The Greyhounds, who had a 40-39 edge in rebounds for the game, missed all three of their three-point attempts in the second half. Moravian had three-players in double figures led by senior forward Kelly Applegate with 21 points to go with nine rebounds. Freshman guard Jessica Foran tossed in 12 points for the Greyhounds while senior forward Jenny Hackleman had ten points to go with a game high 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Amanda Brown netted six points on a pair of three-pointers to go with three assists for the Greyhounds while freshman guard Kate Harrison had four points and three boards. Sophomore forward Cody Fedorishen added four rebounds and two points while junior guard La'Toya Blake had a game high four steals for Moravian. Junior guard Nikki Lobach, the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, led Messiah and all scorers with 23 points to go with three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore forward Ashley Brooks added 17 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons while senior forward Sarah Ringer had 11 points and three boards. Junior guard Amy Reed finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists while sophomore forward Silalei Shani had six rebounds, four points and a pair of blocked shots.

At Albright College in Commonwealth Conference Semifinals - Won 68-61    Boxscore

The Greyhounds, seeded third in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, defeated second seeded Albright College, 68-61, to advance to the Commonwealth Conference Championship game for the fifth straight season. Moravian, which has won six consecutive games, will travel to top seed Messiah College for the second consecutive year for the championship game. Albright was making its first postseason appearance in ten years while the Greyhounds are in the conference tournament for the sixth straight year. Moravian scored first and the game was tied at 2-2 before the Greyhounds pulled ahead, 5-2. The Lions would eventually take a 6-5 lead before Moravian went on an 11-2 run to build its biggest lead of the half, 16-8. The Greyhounds kept the lead until the Lions took a 25-24 lead with just under two minutes to play in the first half. Moravian scored the final eight points of the first half to head to the locker room with a 32-25 lead. The Greyhounds made 12 of 33 field goal attempts (36.4 percent) in the first 20 minutes of the contest, one of four three-pointers and seven of 11 free throws. The Greyhounds had a 29-27 edge in rebounds but committed 11 turnovers to just eight turnovers for the Lions. Albright struggled shooting in the first half, making just ten of 37 field goal attempts and five of ten free throws. The Lions, who had a 14-11 edge in offensive rebounds, missed all three of their three-point attempts in the first 20 minutes. Coming out of the locker room for the second half, Moravian slowly build a ten-point lead, 44-34, with 16:37 to play. Albright fought its way back, eventually tying the contest at 54-54 with 7:50 remaining on the clock. The game would be tied twice more at 56-56 and 58-58 finally with 6:59 to play. Moravian eventually pulled ahead on a jumper by freshman Jessica Foran at the 4:41 mark as the Lions did not score again until 11 seconds remained in the contest. The Greyhounds, ranked third in the nation in free throw percentage, put the game away with six of eight free throws in the final 33 seconds. In the second half, Moravian made 12 of 31 field goal attempts (38.7 percent), its only three-point attempt and 11 of 15 free throws. The Greyhounds committed just five turnovers in the second half to finish with 16 while Albright had 17 turnovers. The Lions shot better in the second half, making 16 of 37 field goal attempts, three of ten three-pointers and one of four free throws. Albright did finish the game with a 53-47 advantage in rebounds. Moravian had three players in double figures led by senior forward Jenny Hackleman, who had a double-double in the first half. Hackleman, who moved into 13th all-time with 1,123 points in her career, finished with game highs of 19 points and 16 rebounds to go with five blocked shots. Hackleman had 13 points, ten rebounds and all five of her blocked shots in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Freshman guard Amanda Brown had four assists, three points and a career high three rebounds in the win while junior guard La'Toya Blake grabbed four rebounds to go with two assists. Guard Marie Levins led Albright with 15 points while forward Jaqueline Hardwick tossed in 11 points to go with nine rebounds. Forward Meredith Berger set a Lion school record with ten blocked shots in the game to go with ten rebounds and nine points while guard Natalie Bizzaro and Charlotte Ciccone each had seven points for Albright. Bizzaro added four rebounds and four assists while forward Jen DuPrau grabbed ten rebounds for the Lions.

Moravian closed out the 2006-07 regular season with a 101-85 win at Elizabethtown College in the Greyhounds' final Commonwealth Conference game. The last time Moravian scored at least 100 points was on January 24, 2005, a 100-86 win at Muhlenberg College. Against Elizabethtown, the Greyhounds scored first and the game was tied at 2-2 before Moravian took control. The Greyhounds slowly pulled away and put the lead into double digits including a 28-point lead, 43-15, with 5:59 remaining in the first half after jumper by freshman guard Kate Harrison. Moravian would go to the locker room with a 50-27 halftime lead. Moravian shot 20 of 38 from the floor (52.6 percent) in the first 20 minutes, and the Greyhounds made ten of 12 free throws in the first half. Moravian, which missed all five of its three-pointers in the first half, had a 23-12 advantage on the boards in the first half while committing just six turnovers. Elizabethtown, which had 16 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, was ten for 25 on field goal attempts, three of ten behind the three-point line and four of five at the charity stripe in the first half. The Greyhounds came out of the locker room and extended their lead to 30 points on three occasions, the final time at 71-41 after a three-pointer by senior guard Katie Rizman with 13:36 to play. With the Greyhounds playing all 17 players in uniform for the second straight game and no Moravian players seeing more than 23 minutes of action, Elizabethtown would eventually get the lead back under 20 points in the final minutes. Moravian continued to shot the ball well in the second half, making 16 of 31 field goal attempts (51.6 percent), three of four three-pointers and 16 of 22 free throws in the final 20 minutes. The Greyhounds also finished the contest with a 50-25 advantage in rebounds while both teams had 21 turnovers for the game. Hackleman became the 14th player in school history to reach 1,100 career points, now with 1,104. Guard Erin Walton scored a game high 32 points to lead Elizabethtown, and she had four rebounds and three assists. The Greyhounds extended their winning streak to four straight games with a 77-55 victory at Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action. The game was postponed twice due to weather before finally being played. The Pride took a 2-0 lead and the game was tied at 4-4 before Moravian took the lead for good on a three-pointer by freshman guard Amanda Brown. The Greyhounds would lead by as many as 13 points in the first half before going to the locker room with a 32-21 lead. Moravian was 13 of 28 from the field (46.4 percent), two of four behind the three-point line and four of five at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. Widener made nine of 30 field goal attempts and three of eight three-pointers in the first half. The Pride did not go to the foul line in the first half but did have a 19-18 edge on rebounds. Moravian forced Widener into 19 first half turnovers while committing 16 miscues in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds came out in the second half and slowly extended the lead to as many as 31 points, 74-43 with 4:46 remaining. Moravian used all 17 players in uniform for the game with everyone seeing at least four minutes of action. Moravian won its third straight game and upset top-ranked Messiah College, 66-59, in Commonwealth Conference action in Johnston Hall as the Greyhounds clinch their sixth straight trip to the Commonwealth Conference Tournament. The Falcons entered the game in the top spot of the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll for the second straight week and on a 19-game winning streak. The win was Moravian's third straight regular season win at home against the Falcons. The game was tight early with neither team leading by more than two points and there were seven ties in the first 12 and a half minutes. With Messiah holding a 14-13 lead, Moravian ran off nine consecutive points to take a 22-14 lead with 5:08 remaining in the first half. The Greyhounds eventually pushed the lead to double digits at 27-16 with 3:05 until the intermission, but the Falcons rallied with eight straight points to cut the Moravian lead to 27-24 with 1:47 left in the first half. The Greyhounds scored to push the lead to five points but the Falcons scored with 1:09 to cut the lead back to three points and send the game to the locker room with Moravian leading 29-26. The Greyhounds were 12 of 30 from the field (40.0 percent) in the first 20 minutes, five of eight at the foul line and missed both of their three-pointers. Moravian had a 24-9 advantage in rebounds in the first half, including 11-1 on the offensive boards; however, the Greyhounds had 13 first half turnovers to 11 for the Falcons. The game would remain close in the early part of the second half as well with Messiah eventually taking a 32-31 lead with 16:30 to go. The Falcons would push their lead to five points, 42-37 with 13:29 remaining before a 6-0 run by the Greyhounds gave Moravian the lead back at 43-42 on a driving lay-up by freshman guard Jessica Foran. Messiah retook the lead briefly before the Greyhounds had a 50-47 edge with 8:21 to play after a jumper by senior forward Kelly Applegate. Messiah posted a 7-1 run to take a 54-41 lead with 4:20 remaining. Moravian would eventually retake the lead on its only three-pointer of the game by freshman guard Amanda Brown with 3:00 remaining for a 56-54 lead. The would be the Greyhounds final field goal of the contest; however, Moravian, ranked sixth in the nation in free throw percentage, made ten of 12 free throws in the final 2:10. Messiah tied the contest at 56-56 on a jumper by junior guard Nikki Lobach with 2:31 left on the clock, the 12th tie of the contest, before the Greyhounds won the game at the foul line. Moravian was ten of 24 (41.7 percent) from the field in the second half, one for two on three-pointers and 16 of 20 at the foul line. The Greyhounds finished the game with a 46-26 advantage in rebounds including a 16-7 edge on the offensive boards. Messiah made just 13 of 35 second half field goals, two of eight three-pointers and five of eight free throws. The Greyhounds had three players in double figures led by Applegate, who had a team high 17 points to go with eight rebounds. Applegate became the sixth player in school history to reach 1,400 career points, now with 1,407, and she is eighth in school history with 645 rebounds. Freshman guard Kate Harrison tossed in a career high 16 points for Moravian, including four of six at the foul line in the final two minutes. Harrison added three rebounds. Senior forward Jenny Hackleman had a double-double for the Greyhounds with a game high 14 rebounds to go with 12 points, three steals and two assists. Hackleman moved into fourth all-time in rebounds with 746 for her career and she is 14th in scoring now with 1,081 points. The Greyhounds won their second straight game to remain in sole possession of third place in the Commonwealth Conference, defeating Lebanon Valley College, 64-50. The victory was Moravian's second on the road this season in nine games. Moravian jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, and the Greyhounds led most of the first half. There were four ties in the first 20 minutes, and the Flying Dutchmen had just one lead, 21-20 with 2:53 to play. Moravian's largest lead of the first half was six points on two occasions, 14-8 and 18-12. The Greyhounds went to the locker room with a 28-25 advantage after shooting nine of 24 (37.5 percent) from the floor, two of nine behind the three-point line and eight of ten at the foul line. Lebanon Valley was nine of 22 from the field and seven of 11 at the charity stripe, but the Flying Dutchmen missed all five of their first half free throws. Lebanon Valley had a 17-15 advantage in rebounds in the first half. Moravian started the second half with a 19-3 run to take a 47-28 lead with 13:55 remaining in the game. The Greyhounds would keep their lead in double digits the rest of the way as the team shot 11 of 28 (39.3 percent) from the floor, two-for-two behind the three-point line and 12 of 15 at the foul line. Moravian snapped its four-game losing streak and took sole possession of third place in the Commonwealth Conference standings with a 76-62 victory over Susquehanna University at Johnston Hall. The Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 9-5 before the Greyhounds went a 6-0 run to take 11-9 lead with 10:16 remaining in the first half. The lead went back-and-forth with Susquehanna eventually taking its largest lead of the game, seven points at 26-19 at the 3:37 mark. However, Moravian finished the first half on a 14-2 run to head to the locker room with a 33-28 lead. The run was fueled by four three-pointers from Moravian freshman guard Amanda Brown in a span of two minutes. The Greyhounds were 14 of 33 from the field (42.4 percent) from the field, four of eight behind the three-point line and one of two at the foul line. Susquehanna made ten of 23 first-half field goal attempts, four of nine three-pointers and all for of its free throw attempts. Moravian had an 18-14 advantage on the boards in the first half while committing just six turnovers while the Crusaders had ten turnovers in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds continued their run into the second half, scoring the first seven points of the half to build a 40-28 lead with 16:20 to play. The Greyhounds dropped their fourth straight game, falling to rival Muhlenberg College, 68-65. Moravian hadn't lost four straight games since a four-game stretch from November 30th to December 9th 2000. The loss also dropped the Greyhounds to 1-8 in road games this season. Moravian jumped out to an 8-0 lead and led 10-2 after a jumper by freshman guard Kate Harrison. However, the Greyhounds would score just two points in the next ten minutes as the Mules took a 15-12 lead. Moravian tied it at 15-15 and again at 17-17 before the Mules pulled away to end the half with a 27-22 lead. The Greyhounds were just nine of 32 from the field (28.1 percent) in the first half, one of four behind the three-point line and three of six at the foul line while Muhlenberg was 11 of 35 from the floor and five of seven at the charity stripe. Muhlenberg, which had a 28-22 advantage in rebounds in the first 20 minutes, missed all six of its three-point attempts in the first half. Moravian had nine turnovers in the first half while Muhlenberg committed eight turnovers. The Mules scored first in the second half to extend their lead to 29-22, but the Greyhounds answered with an 8-0 run to take a 30-29 lead on a pair of free throws by senior forward Kelly Applegate with 17:38 left in the game. Muhlenberg retook the lead and would get it back to six points, 44-38 with 13:56 remaining when Moravian went on a 14-3 run to take a 52-47 lead with 7:29 to play. The Mules quickly pulled within one point at 53-52 with 6:31 on the clock, but the Greyhounds responded with a 6-0 run to take a 59-52 lead with 3:37 remaining. Muhlenberg countered with a 10-0 run to take a 62-59 lead with 1:44 to play. The Greyhounds tied the game twice at 62-62 and 64-64, but the Mules were four-for-four from the foul line in the final 41 seconds to win the contest. Moravian suffered its third straight loss in Commonwealth Conference action, falling to Albright College, 61-60, in a game at Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds' three-game losing streak is the program's first since dropping the final three games of the 2000-01 season. Moravian jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half before the Lions got on the board at the 17:19 mark. The Greyhounds kept the lead until the 3:04 mark when Albright took the lead on a three-point play by sophomore guard Charolette Ciccone. The Lions would hold onto the lead until the 8:11 mark of the second half. Moravian trailed by just one point at half time as freshman guard Jessica Foran hit a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to cut Albright's advantage to 30-29. The Greyhounds had the ball at the end of the half but were unable to get a shot off. Neither team shot well in the first half with Moravian making ten of 27 field goal attempts (37.0 percent), two of five three-pointers and all seven of its free throw attempts. The Lions were 11 of 29 from the field and eight of 11 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes, and Albright missed its only three-point attempt of the first half. Moravian had a 22-15 advantage in rebounds; however, the Greyhounds committed 16 turnovers in the first half to 12 for Albright. The Lions stretched their lead to seven points at 45-38 with 11:23 to play before the Greyhounds went on a 9-0 run to take a 47-45 lead with 8:11 remaining. Albright had a 61-58 lead with less then ten seconds to play when Moravian went inside to freshman forward Kirsty Stearns for a jumper in the lane with a second to play to finish the scoring. The Greyhounds continued to struggle shooting the ball in the second half, making just nine of 26 field goal attempts (34.6 percent), two of four three-pointers and 11 of 13 free throws. Albright shot slightly better in the second half, connecting on 12 of 31 field goal attempts, one of seven three-pointers and six of 13 free throws. Moravian did finish the game with a 41-39 advantage in rebounds; however, the Greyhounds had a total of 29 turnovers while Albright had 23 miscues. Moravian had two players in double figures led by Hackleman who had a career high 21 points. Hackleman, who was honored before the game for joining Moravian's 1,000-point club, added eight rebounds and two assists. During the contest, Hackleman became the sixth player in school history to reach 700 career rebounds and now has career totals of 701 rebounds and 1,039 points, which is 15th all-time. The Greyhounds final lead of the contest was 13-10 with 11:41 until the intermission. At the 7:41 mark of the first half, Juniata had a 24-19 lead; however, the Eagles used a 12-1 run over the next four and a half minutes to build a 36-20 lead with 3:13 left until halftime. Juniata went to the locker room with a 43-30 lead. The Eagles were 15 of 29 from the floor, four of seven on three-pointers and nine of ten from the foul line in the first 20 minutes, and Juniata had an 18-12 advantage in rebounds while forcing Moravian into 14 turnovers and committing just ten. Moravian nearly pulled off an upset in Commonwealth Conference action before falling to third-ranked Messiah College, 58-54, in a road conference game. The Falcons were ranked third in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll and received seven first-place votes, the same number as top ranked the University of Scranton. The Greyhounds led most of the contest including heading into the locker room at halftime with a 27-17 advantage, but Moravian was unable to hold on in the end as the Falcons scored 41 second half points to earn the win. The Greyhounds still had a five-point lead with three minutes to play before the Falcons scored on a three-point play and a three-pointer to take the lead. In the first half, the Greyhounds were 12 of 25 from the field (48.0 percent), one of two behind the three-point line and two-for-two at the foul line. Messiah struggled shooting the ball in the first half, making just eight of 28 field goal attempts, one of two free throws and missing all five of their three-pointers. Moravian had a 23-9 advantage in rebounds after the first 20 minutes; however, the Greyhounds had committed 11 turnovers to just six for the Falcons. Messiah would slowly get back into the game and eventually pulled ahead after shooting over 50 percent in the second half. That basket started an 11-0 run for the Greyhounds to give the team a 15-6 lead with 7:51 to play. Elizabethtown rallied and retook the lead at 22-21 with 2:11 left until the intermission. Moravian jumped out to a 15-0 lead before the Eagles scored their first basket at the 11:58 mark. The Greyhounds eventually pushed their first half lead to 29 points, 41-12 with 27 seconds left in the first half before heading to the locker room with a 41-16 lead. Moravian was 12 of 34 (34.3 percent) in the first half from the field, two of four on three-pointers and 15 of 20 from the foul line. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead and would hold a lead the entire game. Moravian led by as many as 12 points in the first half, 22-10 at the 12:32 mark before the Flying Dutchmen started to chip away at the lead. Lebanon Valley pulled within two points at 32-30 with 3:57 until the intermisson. Moravian responded with a 10-2 run to head to the locker room with a 42-32 lead. Both teams shot extremely well in the first half. The Greyhounds were 15 of 30 from the floor, three of five behind the three-point line and nine of ten at the foul line while the Flying Dutchmen were 12 of 18 on field goals, two of three on three-pointers and six of eight at the charity stripe. The Greyhounds had won nine straight games over the Bears and had not lost to Ursinus in Johnston Hall since the first game the two schools played in Bethlehem on January 16, 1981. Moravian had won 17 straight home games against Ursinus since that first loss, and the Greyhounds now own a 29-8 all-time lead in the series. Ursinus jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes before Moravian got on the scoreboard with a lay-up by senior forward Kelly Applegate at the 16:24 mark. The Bears eventually pushed the lead to 15 points at 21-6 with 10:49 remaining in the first half before the Greyhounds had a 10-2 run to cut lead to seven points at 23-16 with 8:05 left in the first half. The Greyhounds rallied from a 24-point deficit in the final 17 minutes to defeat Widener University, 58-55, in the Commonwealth Conference season opener for both schools in Johnston Hall. Both teams struggled early with Moravian scoring the first point of the game on a free throw by senior forward Kelly Applegate at the 17:35 mark of the first half. The teams were tied at 5-5 with 15:49 remaining until halftime when Widener went on a 9-0 run to build at 14-5 lead. The Pride would continue to build its lead, eventually to 24 points, 34-10, with 2:18 remaining in the first half. Moravian scored the final four points of the half to head to the locker room trailing by 20 points, 34-14. The Greyhounds made just five of 33 field goal attempts (15.2 percent) in the first half, and Moravian missed all six of its three-point attempts and was four of six at the foul line. On the other hand, Widener had the hot hand in the first half, connecting on 13 of 26 field goal attempts, four of seven three-pointers and four of six free throws. Both teams had 22 rebounds and committed 13 turnovers in the first half. The Pride came out of the locker room and pushed the lead back to 24 points at 38-14 with 18:02 remaining in the game. Moravian would start on its comeback at the 16:51 mark when freshman forward Kirsty Stearns hit a pair of free throws to cut into the 24-point deficit. Widener still had a 19-point lead with 11:58 remaining, up 46-27; however, Moravian went on an 18-1 run to pull within two points at 47-45 with 6:10 left on the clock. The Pride pushed the lead back to six points, 51-45 with 5:29 remaining before the Greyhounds eventually tied the contest at 53-53 with 2:20 left in the game. Moravian finally retook the lead on a pair of free throws by freshman guard Kate Harrison with 1:48 remaining, but Widener answered and tied the contest at 55-55 on a jumper by sophomore guard Beth Dessart Mager with 1:23 remaining. Harrison connected on a jumper with 58 seconds left to put Moravian in the lead for good, and Stearns hit a free throw with eight seconds left to secure the win. The Greyhounds finished the game with a 44-17 run over the final 16:51. Moravian shot much better in the second half, making 15 of 33 field goal attempts (45.5 percent), two of four three-pointers and 12 of 16 free throws (75.0 percent), while the Pride struggled in the second half, making just seven of 24 field goals, one of eight three-pointers and six of nine free throws. Widener did have a 42-39 advantage in rebounds in the game, but the Pride committed 17 second half turnovers to just seven miscues for Moravian after the break. Applegate led all scorers and three Moravian players in double figures with 17 points. Stearns also recorded her first career double-double with 11 rebounds, and she had four steals and a blocked shot. Freshman guard Jessica Foran netted nine points for the Greyhounds, the first game of her collegiate career she failed to reach double figures, and Foran contributed four steals, three assists and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Cody Fedorishen grabbed five rebounds for Moravian while freshman guard Amanda Brown had three points, three assists and two steals. Sophomore forward Kelley Guarrera led Widener with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists before fouling out while sophomore guard Megan Sipple had 12 points and four assists for the Pride. Moravian used a 10-3 run over the final 3:29 to secure a 79-70 victory over local rival DeSales University at Johnston Hall. The win was the Greyhounds first over the Bulldogs at home since November 23, 1993. Moravian jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game only to see DeSales rally and tie the contest at 16-15 with 11:43 remaining in the first half. The game was tied for the third and final time at 23-23 with 7:53 until the intermission as the Greyhounds led the entire contest. Moravian headed to the locker room with a 39-36 lead after shooting 15 of 31 (48.4 percent) from the floor, two of three on three-pointers and seven of ten at the foul line in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Bulldogs were 11 of 24 from the field, four of 11 behind the three-point line and ten of 16 at the foul line in the first half. The Greyhounds fell to host Johns Hopkins University, 85-75, in the championship game of the Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament to begin the 2006-07 season. Moravian had an early lead in the contest, and the Greyhounds led by five points several times with the last time at 17-12 with 11:35 to play in the first half. The Blue Jays countered with a 21-5 run to take a 33-22 lead with 4:09 remaining in the half. Johns Hopkins would head to the locker room with a 40-31 lead after shooting 15 of 35 from the floor, two of nine behind the three-point line and eight of ten at the foul line. Moravian opened the 2006-07 season with a 75-72 come-from-behind victory over Ferrum (VA) College on the first day of the Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament being hosted by Johns Hopkins University. The Greyhounds will play the host Blue Jays in the championship game. Moravian trailed Ferrum, 69-55, with just under six minutes to play in the game, but the Greyhounds finished on a 20-3 run to earn the victory. Moravian had led 25-24 with just under six minutes to play in the first half when the Panthers finish the first half on a 15-7 run for a 39-32 halftime edge. The Greyhounds were 13 of 30 (43.3 percent) from the floor in the first half, making two of five three-pointers, and Moravian was just four of nine (44.9 percent) at the foul line while Ferrum made 15 of 32 field goals, two of nine three-pointers and seven of 13 free throws in the first half.
