At 2000 NCAA Division III National Championships –5th
of 24
Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed second of 211 in the NCAA Division
III National Championships at Spokane, WA in a time of 18:10.6 to earn
All-American accolades for the second straight year and to lead the
Greyhounds to a fifth place team finish. The race was also the third
time in 2000 that Wolfsberger finished second in the country after
two runner-up finishes in the 1,500 meters during track season. The
Greyhounds finished in the top five of all teams in every meet this
season with seven wins. Junior Emily Shertzer also earned All-American
honors with top 35 finish, placing 26th in 18:34.6. Junior Kim Jaick
was 50th in 18:58.9. Junior Erin Boyle placed 69th in a time of 19:06.9
while sophomore Jen Wagner was 174th at 19:58.1. Rounding out the Greyhound
squad at the National Championships were senior Hannah Wood placed
189th in 20:13.4 and freshman Ashley Kimmet was 200th with a time of
20:37.7.
At 2000 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional – 1st of 35
Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed first of 237 runners in a time of
18:17 to lead the Greyhounds to a first place finish at the NCAA Division
III Mideast Regional at Dickinson College. Moravian qualifies for the
NCAA Division III Championships in Spokane, WA, on Saturday, November
18th with the win. The regional championship was the first for the
Moravian team since 1993, the Greyhounds first of now eight consecutive
appearances in the NCAA Division III National Championships, and Wolfsberger
is the first Moravian individual to win the race since Tracy Wartman
won in 1994. Wolfsberger, who won her second straight Middle Atlantic
Conference Championship two weeks ago, wasn't Moravian's only top ten
finisher with junior Emily Shertzer placing fourth in 18:40.60, junior
Kim Jaick in sixth at 18:48.20 and junior Erin Boyle finishing tenth
in 19:01.40. All four runners earned All-Region status for finishing
in the top 35. Freshman Ashley Kimmet was Moravian's fifth runner,
placing 36th in 20:09.40 while sophomore Jen Wagner placed 51st in
20:33.00. Senior Hannah Wood rounded out the Moravian squad with a
63rd place finish in 20:43.00.
At 2000 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships – 1st
of 13
Behind the running of the junior class, the Greyhounds won their eighth
straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship with a near-perfect
score of 18 points. Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won her second straight
MAC Individual Championship with a first place time of 18:17.83 over
the 5,100-meter course at Allentown College. Moravian had four other
runners in the top ten in the 177 competitor field. Junior Emily Shertzer
placed second in 18:42.93 while junior Kim Jaick was third in 18:54.80.
Junior Erin Boyle placed fifth in 19:11.33 while senior Hannah Wood
was seventh with a time of 20:03.18. The Greyhounds had four more finishers
in the top 20 with sophomore Jen Wagner placing 12th in 20:16.09, freshman
Ashley Kimmet in 14th place at 20:21.36, junior Amanda Samok at 16th
in 20:24.76 and freshman Jamie Marks in 18th place with a time of 20:26.52.
Rounding out the Moravian runners were freshman Angie Morgan in 26th
position with a time of 20:52.45, freshman Jessica Geissler in 27th
at 20:56.72 and junior Tiffany Catalino at 37th in 21:11.34.
At West Chester University with East Stroudsburg University & Muhlenberg
College – Won three
Running in their first dual meets of the season, the Greyhounds won
three races by defeating host West Chester University, 16-49, as well
as East Stroudsburg University, 15-50, and Muhlenberg College, 15-49.
Junior Heidi Wolfsberger led the Greyhounds with a first place finish
on the two and a half mile course in a course record time of 14:59.
Junior Emily Shertzer was second in 15:19 and junior Kim Jaick placed
third in 15:20. Moravian had three other top ten finishers with junior
Erin Boyle placing fourth in 15:31, senior Hannah Wood taking sixth
in 16:12 and sophomore Jen Wagner finishing seventh in 16:39.
At Allentown College Invitational – 1st of 25
For the fifth time in six meets this fall, Moravian, currently ranked
ninth in the nation, won the team race, finishing first at the 25-team
Allentown College Invitational. Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won the race
in a time of 18:29.91 for the Greyhounds while juniors Emily Shertzer
(3rd at 18:49.09), Kim Jaick (4th in 19:03.92) and Erin Boyle (8th
with a time of 19:32.21) all placed in the top ten. Moravian's other
runners included senior Hannah Wood in 16th place in 20:01.21, sophomore
Jen Wagner at 24th in 20:13.18 and freshman Ashley Kimmet in 27th at
20:25.72.
At Dickinson College Invitational – 1st of 39
For the fourth time in five meets this fall, Moravian, currently ranked
eighth in the nation, won the team race, finishing first at the 39-team
Dickinson Invitational Saturday. Junior Heidi Wolfsberger placed fourth
in the race in a time of 18:38.2 for the Greyhounds while junior Emily
Shertzer was sixth in 18:49.1 and junior Kim Jaick was tenth in 19:04.1.Junior
Erin Boyle placed 16th in 19:15.8 while senior Hannah Wood rounded
out the Greyhounds top five in 38th place at 19:54.1. Freshman Jamie
Marks was 54th in 20:16.5 and sophomore Jen Wagner placed 62nd in 20:28.3
to round out the Greyhound runners in the 281-competitor race.
At New York University Invitational – 2nd of 37
For the first time this season, the Greyhounds were not on top of
the leader board in the individual or team race, but Moravian wasn't
far behind as the team was second of 37 schools and junior Emily Shertzer
placed second of 235 runners at the New York University Invitational.
Sherzter completed the 5,000-meter course in 18:52.27. Moravian was
in second place by just five points to The College of New Jersey. Coming
into the race, the Greyhounds were ranked ninth in the nation while
the Lions were 14th. Moravian did have three other runners in the top
13 with junior Erin Boyle placing fifth in 19:13.01, senior Hannah
Wood taking 12th in 19:29.28 and junior Kim Jaick in 13th at 19:30.46.Rounding
out the Greyhounds other four runners were sophomore Jen Wagner in
43rd at 20:21.39, freshman Jaime Marks at 47th in 20:25.73, junior
Tiffany Catalino placing 61st with a time of 20:40.30 and junior Amanda
Samok in 86th at 21:04.42. For the second straight meet, junior All-American
Heidi Wolfsberger did not compete due to a slight injury.
At Muhlenberg College Invitational – 1st of 7
Sophomore Emily Shertzer won her third straight race of the season
and defended her title at the Muhlenberg College Invitational. Shertzer
topped the field with a time of 19:01.0 over 5,000 meters. Junior Kim
Jaick placed second in 19:14.5 while junior Erin Boyle was third ar
19:44.1. Other top ten finishers for the Greyhounds included senior
Hannah Wood in fourth at 20:15.0, junior Amanda Samok at sixth in 20:31.5,
freshman Jamie Marks in seventh at 20:36.7, sophomore Jen Wagner was
ninth in 20:46.5 and freshman Ashley Kimmet in 10th at 20:47.3.
At Lafayette College Invitational – 1st of 11
For the second straight weekend, junior Emily Shertzer captured first
place individually to lead the Moravian College women’s cross
country team to a first place team finish. Shertzer won the Lafayette
College Invitational with a 6-kilometer time of 21:40 as the Greyhounds
won with a team score of 40 points over a field that included six NCAA
Division I schools, three NCAA Division II schools and just one other
NCAA Division III school. Moravian edged out the University of Pennsylvania
by five points.
The Greyhounds had two other runners in the top ten and four in the
top 16 of the field that included 110 runners. Junior Heidi Wolfsberger
placed second in 22:00 while junior Kim Jaick was sixth in 22:16. Junior
Erin Boyle was 15th in 22:36 while senior Hannah Wood finished 16th
in 22:39. Rounding out the Greyhound competitors were sophomore Jen
Wagner in 41st at 24:03, junior Tiffany Catalino in 55th at 24:30,
freshman Angie Morgan at 68th with a time of 25:01, junior Amanda Samok
at 81st in 25:44, freshman Lauren Laviola in 85th at 26:16 and sophomore
Gina Lacombe in 96th with a time of 27:10.
At Kutztown Maroon & Gold Invitational – 1st of 9
The Moravian women’s cross country team captured first place
of nine schools at the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Maroon & Gold
Invitational last weekend in its first action of the season. The Greyhounds
defeated four NCAA Division II schools in the 6,000-meter race as well
as two Middle Atlantic Conference schools and rival Muhlenberg College.
Junior Emily Shertzer captured first place in the meet and she was
one of four Greyhounds in the top ten. Shertzer completed the course
in 23:17 followed by classmate Kim Jaick in second at 23:43. Junior
All-American Heidi Wolfsberger took fourth place in 24:02 while senior
Hannah Wood was eighth at 24:44. Junior Erin Boyle was the fifth Greyhound
to cross the finish line, placing 12th in 25:00.
Moravian had nine other competitors among the field of 104 runners.
Sophomore Jennifer Wagner was 32nd in 26:17 while freshman Angie Morgan
was 34th in her first collegiate race in a time of 26:22. Freshman
Jessica Geissler placed 36th in 26:26 while junior Tiffany Catalino
was 39th at 26:35 and freshman Jamie Marks finished 40th in 26:36.
Rounding out the Greyhound competitors were junior Amanda Samok in
43rd at 26:48, freshman Lauren Laviola at 60th with a time of 27:51,
freshman Michelle Gorman in 68th in 28:14 and sophomore Gina Lacombe
at 80th in 29:10.
