At 2001 NCAA Div. III National Championship by Augustana College – 3rd

Senior Heidi Wolfsberger took second placed for the second straight
year to lead the Moravian College women's cross country team to a third
place finish at the 2001 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted
by Augustana College. Middlebury (VT) College won the National
Championship for the second straight year with a score of 98 points
while Williams (MA) College was second with 166 points and Moravian
was third at 183 points.
The Greyhounds, who have also won nine consecutive Middle Atlantic
Conference Championships and the last two NCAA Division III Mideast
Regionals, were one of two teams that represented the Mideast Region
at the national meet. Dickinson College placed 23rd. With
its third place finish Saturday, Moravian, which is coached by 15-year
head coach Mark Will-Weber, has finished in the top ten six times. The
best finish for the Greyhounds was Saturday as well as in 1993, and
1995 when the squad was third overall. Moravian has also finished
fourth in 1994, the year the Bethlehem school hosted the national meet,
fifth a year ago in Spokane, Washington, eighth in 1997, 13th in 1996,
14th in 1998 and 20th in 1999.
Wolfsberger becomes an All-American for the third time in cross country
and the tenth time in her career, completing the 5,000-meter course
at Highland Springs Golf Course in 17:12. Wolfsberger was second
of the 213 runners in the race, trailing only national champion Dana
Boyle of the University of Puget Sound, who won the race with a time
of 16:46. Moravian, which entered the NCAA Championships ranked
third in the nation, had two other runners earn All-American status
by finishing in the top 35. Senior Emily Shertzer was 27th in
the race with a time of 17:47 while senior Kim Jaick placed 32ndin
17:52. The Greyhounds' other competitors were senior Erin Boyle
placed 83rd in 18:27, freshman Chelsea Mullins in 116th at 18:41, freshman
Heather McGarvie in 152nd at 19:06 and junior Jen Wagner at 166th with
a time of 19:15.
At 2001 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional by Muhlenberg College – 1st

For the second straight year, the Moravian College women's cross
country team, ranked third in the nation, won the 2001 NCAA Division
III Mideast Regional hosted by Muhlenberg College at Lehigh University's
Goodman campus. With the victory, the Moravian women, who were
ranked first in the country earlier this season for six weeks, advance
to the NCAA Division III National Champions for the ninth straight
season next weekend at Augustana College in Quad Cities, IL. Senior
Heidi Wolfsberger won the Mideast Regional Individual title for the
second straight year, completing the 5,000 meter course in 17:52.37. Senior
Emily Shertzer was third in the race of 235 runners in 18:13.10 while
senior Kim Jaick was fourth in 18:17.55 and senior Erin Boyle finished
fifth in 18:29.82. Freshman Chelsea Mullins was the Greyhounds'
fifth place finisher, taking 14th in 19:01.91. Freshman Heather
McGarvie placed 25th with a time of 19:18.63 while junior Jen Wagner
was 28th in 19:22.93. All seven runners earned All-Mideast Region
honors with Mullins and McGarvie also earning spots on the All-Freshman
Mideast Region Team.
At 2001 MAC Championships hosted by Messiah College – 1st

Senior Heidi Wolfsberger won her third straight Middle Atlantic Conference
Individual title with a time of 18:31.30 and she led the Greyhounds
to their ninth consecutive MAC Team Championship. Wolfsberger
becomes the first Moravian runner to win the race three straight years. Joining
Wolfsberger on the MAC All-Star First Team with top ten finishes were
senior Emily Shertzer in second at 18:54.80, senior Erin Boyle at third
in 19:06.70 and senior Kim Jaick in sixth at 19:38.60. The Greyhounds
had four MAC Second Team All-Stars with finishes in the second ten. Freshman
Alison Stoyko was 11th in 20:06.60 while junior Jen Wager was 12th
in 20:08.60. Freshman Chelsea Mullins placed 13th in 20:09.10
while freshman Heather McGarvie was 14th in 20:13.00. Rounding
out the Moravian runners were sophomore Angie Morgan in 25th at 20:57.10,
senior Amanda Samok in 36th with a tome of 21:20.90, senior Jen Boberg
at 42nd in 21:30.30 and freshman Megan Wise at 58th with a time of
21:54.70.
At DeSales Invitational hosted by DeSales University – 1st
of 27
Moravian, ranked number one in the nation, won its fifth invitational
of the year in its final tune-up before the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference
Championships as the Greyhounds captured first of 27 schools at the
DeSales University Invitational. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger won
her third race of the season, completing the 5,000-meter course in
a time of 18:09.06. Moravian placed three other runners in the
top five of the field of 193 runners. Senior Erin Boyle had her
best finish of the season, placing third in 18:41.74 while senior Emily
Shertzer was fourth in 18:42.90 and senior Kim Jaick was fifth in 19:03.88. Rounding
out Moravian's top five was junior Jen Wagner in 33rd place with a
time of 20:22.37. Freshman Heather McGarvie was 37th in 20:29.62
while freshman Ali Stoyko placed 39th in 20:31.82.
At Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University – 3rd
of 35
The Greyhounds, running in the NCAA Division I and II College Invitational
race at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University, placed
third of 35 teams. Moravian, which is ranked first in the nation
in NCAA Division III, was one of two Division III teams in the top
race and the Greyhounds defeated 31 schools including #11 Georgetown
University. Moravian had a team score of 135 points while Penn
State University won the race with 109 points and Bucknell University
placed second with 123 points. Leading the Greyhounds individually
was senior Heidi Wolfsberger, placing fifth of 269 runners on the 6,000-meter
course with a time of 21:26.88. Senior Kim Jaick placed 13th in
21:41.52 while senior Emily Shertzer was 24th overall with a time of
23:03.96. Senior Erin Boyle took 40th place in 22:19.69. Freshman
Chelsea Mullins was 58th in the race at 22:38.05 while junior Jen Wagner
placed 135th in 23:29.68. Freshman Heather McGarvie rounded out
the Moravian runners with a 154th place finish in a time of 23:42.39.
At NYU Invitational hosted by New York University – 1st
of 32
Junior Heidi Wolfsberger won for the second time this season and Moravian,
ranked first in the nation, won its fourth invitational of the year,
taking first place of 32 schools at the New York University Invitational
run at Van Cortlandt Park in upper Manhattan Saturday. Moravian
captured first place over The College of New Jersey, who was ranked
18th in the country, by eight points. Wolfsberger won the 5,000-meter
race in 18:19.76. She was one of three Greyhounds in the top ten. Senior
Kim Jaick placed fourth in 18:38.48 while senior Emily Shertzer was
eighth in 19:12.34. Rounding out the Moravian top five were senior
Erin Boyle in 22nd at 19:40.13 and freshman Chelsea Mullins at 32nd
with a time of 19:58.77. Junior Jen Wagner was 49th in 20:27.65
while freshman Heather McGarvie was 60th in 20:37.98 and freshman Ali
Stoyko was 61st with a time of 20:38.50.
Also competing for the Greyhounds were freshman Megan Wise in 77th
at 21:01.15, sophomore Angie Morgan in 86th at 21:11.22, Senior Amanda
Samok in 87th at 21:12.59, freshman Kellie Smith at 106th in 21:34.13,
senior Jenn Boberg at 112th with a time of 21:39.05 and senior Tiffany
Catalino in 143rd at 22:20.42.
At Panther Invitational hosted by Middlebury (VT) College – 1st

In an early season showdown of the top two teams in the country, the
Greyhounds, ranked 2nd in the nation in the NCAA Division III preseason
poll, defeated defending national champion and the top ranked team
in the poll, Middlebury (VT) College at Middlebury's Panther Invitational. Moravian
edged out Middlebury by three points, 34 to 37 to win its third invitational
of the season. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger paced the Moravian squad
that put four runners in the top ten and five in the top 12. Wolfsberger
placed third in the race of 86 individuals with a time of 18:12.6. Senior
Kim Jaick was fifth in the race at 18:37.6 while senior Emily Shertzer
placed sixth in 18:47.4. Senior Erin Boyle took the eighth spot
in 19:07.3 while freshman Chelsea Mullins rounded out the Moravian
top five in 12th place at 19:17.2.
The Greyhounds have seven other runners in the race with sophomore
Jen Wagner placing 27th in 20:21.4 and freshman Megan Wise taking 28th
in 20:22.8. Freshman Ali Stoyko placed 37th with a time of 20:31.4,
freshman Kellie Smith was 46th in 21:11.7, sophomore Angie Morgan was
47th in 21:18.1, senior Tiffany Catalino placed 48th in 21:21.8 and
senior Jen Boberg was the final Greyhound, placing 57th in 21:57.4.
At Lehigh Valley Collegiate Championships at Lehigh University – 1st

The Greyhounds won first place of seven schools at the Lehigh valley
Collegiate Championships hosted by NCAA Division I Lehigh University.
The Greyhounds defeated the Mountain Hawks as well as NCAA Division
I Lehigh University and NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University
and Kutztown University in the 6,000-meter race. Moravian also
topped rivals DeSales University and Muhlenberg College. Senior
Kim Jaick ran the best race of her career, finishing first of 84 runners
with a time of 21:56.7. The Greyhounds would put five runners
in the top ten to beat Lehigh by 20 points. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger
was third overall in 22:08.5 while senior Emily Shertzer placed sixth
in 22:37.7. Senior Erin Boyle was seventh at 22:47.7 and freshman
Chelsea Mullins finished tenth in 23:14.4 for Moravian.
Moravian's other runners in the race included junior Jennifer Wagner
placing 15th in 23:48.6, freshman Megan Wise taking 21st in 24:22.1,
sophomore Angie Morgan finishing 28th in 24:48.8, senior Amanda Samok
taking 30th in 24:52.1, freshman Alison Stoyko at 35th in 25:01.6,
freshman Heather McGarvie in 36th place at 25:02.1 and senior Jen Boberg
at 41st with a time of 25:32.8. The Greyhounds also had the following
competitors in the race - senior Tiffany Catalino in 48th at 25:49.0,
freshman Kellie Smith at 52nd in 26:01.8, freshman Britta Jacobson
in 57th with a time of 26:19.4, sophomore Lauren Laviola at 59th with
a time of 26:25.1, freshman Sarah Krebs in 61st at 26:29.3, freshman
Meghan Krebs at 64th in 26:49.5, sophomore Robin Edward in 66th at
27:01.2, sophomore Jen Brief in 70th at 28:11.3 and freshman O'Dea
Parson in 72nd at 28:14.5.
At Kutztown Maroon & Gold Invitational – 1st of 9
The Greyhounds captured first place of nine schools at the Kutztown
University of Pennsylvania Maroon & Gold Invitational in their
first action of the season. The Greyhounds defeated five NCAA Division
II schools in the 6,000-meter race as well as two Middle Atlantic Conference
schools. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger picked up right where she left
off last season, placing first in a time of 22:35.13. Senior Kim
Jaick placed fourth in 23:13.12 and senior Emily Shertzer was fifth
at 23:33.51. Also placing in the top ten for the Greyhounds were
senior Erin Boyle in sixth at 23:43.75 and freshman Chelsea Mullins
in eighth with a time of 24:03.23. Finishing in the second ten
for the Hounds were junior Jen Wagner in 13th at 24:37.22 and freshman
Megan Wise in 17th place at 25:00.
Other Moravian finishers included freshman Ali Stoyko in 22nd at 25:35,
freshman Kellie Smith in 27th at 25:47, senior Tiffany Catalino in
34th with a time of 26:05, senior Jen Boberg at 38th in 26:12, freshman
Heather McGarvie in 39th at 26:14 and sophomore Angie Morgan in 40th
with a time of 26:19. Moravian also had the following place finishers
freshman Lindsay Stehman at 42nd in 26:22, freshman Sarah Krebs in
69th at 27:51, freshman Meghan Krebs at 72nd in 27:56, sophomore Lauren
Laviola in 73rd with a time of 28:01, sophomore Robin Edward at 74th
in 28:02, freshman Britta Jacobson at 76th in 28:09, sophomore Jen
Brief at 80th in 28:22 and freshman O'Dea Parson in 98th with a time
of 30:05. There were 117th runners in the meet.
