At 2003 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson
College - 9th of 38 Moravian Individual Results
Junior Heather McGarvie earned All-Mideast Region honors for the third
straight season to lead Moravian to a ninth place finish of 38 schools
at the 2003 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson
College at Carlisle High School. McGarvie placed 18th in a time of
23:35 on the 6,000-meter course. Junior Chelsea Mullins placed 37th
with a time of 24:15 while sophomore Lauren Bahnatka was 78th in 25:23.
Sophomore Alexis Vergalla was 95th in a time of 25:40 while junior
Alison Stoyko placed 111th at 25:59. Rounding out the Moravian runners
were senior Lauren Laviola in 136th place with a time of 26:24 and
sophomore Julie Leiby in 151st at 26:43. There were 263 competitors
in the race.
At 2003 Middle Atlantic Corporation Championships hosted by
DeSales University - 6th of 13 Moravian Individual Results
For the first time in over a decade, Moravian finished below first
place in the Middle Atlantic Corporation Championships with the Greyhounds
in sixth place of 13 schools. Moravian had won the last ten MAC titles.
Junior Heather McGarvie paced the Greyhounds and earned All-Conference
First Team honors with a tenth place finish in a time of 25:26.68 on
the 6,000-meter course. Sophomore Lauren Bahnatka garnered a spot on
the All-Conference Second Team with a 19th place showing in the 123-competitor
race in a time of 26:03.81. Rounding out the top five for Moravian
were junior Alison Stoyko in 48th place with a time of 27:49.87, sophomore
Julie Leiby in 59th position in 27:54.15 and senior Lauren Laviola
at 53rd in 28:02.78. Other competitors for the Greyhounds included
sophomore Alexis Vergalla in 57th place in 28:07.66, junior Kellie
Smith at 68th in a time of 28:31.56, junior Kim Bushner in 72nd at
29:15.94, freshman Jennifer Connolly at 83rd in a time of 29:48.51,
senior Robin Edward in 98th at 31:14.42 and freshman Ashley McCuen
in 104th place with a time of 32:16.37.
At DeSales University Invitational – 8th of 31 (7th
of 9 in Sub-Varsity Race) Moravian Individual Results
Moravian placed eighth of 31 schools at the DeSales University Invitational,
and the Greyhounds had a team score of 238. Junior Heather McGarvie
paced the Greyhounds with a seventh place finish among the 221 competitors
on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 19:41.23. Junior Chelsea Mullins
placed 32nd in 20:36.54 while sophomore Lauren Bahnatka was 49th overall
in a time of 21:12.03. Sophomore Alexis Vergalla finished 76th in 21:40.53
while junior Alison Stoyko was 82nd at 21:45.04. Sophomore Julie Leiby
took 110th place with a time of 22:31.83 while senior Jennifer Brief
was 135th in 23:19.40.
In the Sub-Varsity race, the Greyhounds placed seventh of nine schools
with senior Lauren Laviola leading the way, placing 38th of 91 runners
in a time of 22:44.14. Junior Kim Bushner placed 50th in 23:10.06 while
freshman Jennifer Connelly was 53rd in 23:18.79. Rounding out the Greyhound
runners were junior Kellie Smith in 55th at 23:22.69, senior Robin
Edward at 64th in a time of 23:55.04, freshman Ashley McCuen in 68th
at 24:04.11, sophomore Alicia Hernandez at 75th in a time of 25:09.80
and freshman Ivy Walker in 82nd place at 26:33.83.
At Dickinson College Long Course/Short Course Invitational at
Carlisle High School – 8th of 36 (27th of 36 short course) Moravian
Individual Results
Running for the first time in three weeks, the Greyhounds placed 8th
of 36 schools in the 6,000-meter race at the Dickinson College Long
Course/Short Course Invitational run at Carlisle High School, the site
of the 2003 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional in November. Moravian
also placed 27th of 36 teams in the 4,000-meter short course race.
Junior Heather McGarvie led the Greyhounds with a time of 23:51.62
on the 6,000-meter course to place tenth of 203 runners. Junior Chelsea
Mullins placed 36th in a time of 24:56.68 while sophomore Lauren Bahnatka
was 52nd in 25:30.39. Rounding out the Moravian top five were sophomore
Alexis Vergalla in 76th place with a time of 26:11.37 and sophomore
Julie Leiby in 107th at 26:43.33.
Other runners for Moravian in the long course race included senior
Jen Brief finishing 113th in 26:57.43, junior Alison Stoyko placing
115th in 27:01.07, junior Kellie Smith taking 130th in 27:27.06 and
senior Lauren Laviola finishing 146th with a time of 27:59.46.
Freshman Ashley McCuen led Moravian's runners in the 4,000-meter short
course race with a time of 18:22.51, which placed her in 146th place
of 242 runners. Senior Robin Edward was 159th in 18:47.53 while sophomore
Alicia Hernandez took 185th place with a time of 19:22.42 and freshman
Ivy Walker was 218th in 20:36.40.
At Monmouth Invitational hosted by Monmouth University – Postponed
until September 22nd
The Monmouth University Invitational scheduled for Friday, September
19th has been postponed until Monday, September 22nd due to inclement
weather. However, due to conflicts with classes, the Greyhounds will
not be attending the meet.
At Mule/Falcon Invitational hosted by Cedar Crest College – 2nd
of 10 Moravian Individual Results
Moravian finished second with a time score of 53 points at the Mule/Falcon
Invitational hosted by Cedar Crest College. The Greyhounds were three
points behind rival Muhlenberg College and 44 points ahead of third-place
Marywood University. Junior Heather McGarvie paced Moravian in the
race, finishing second overall in a time of 19:42.4 on the 5,000-meter
course. Junior Chelsea Mullins placed sixth of 98 runners with a time
of 20:05.8 while sophomore Lauren Bahnatka took 12th in a time of 20:56.0.
Rounding out the Moravian top five were junior Alison Stoyko in 15th
place at 21:34.7 and sophomore Alexis Vergalla in 20th place with a
time of 21:51.5.
Other Moravian competitors in the race included sophomore Julie Leiby
placing 26th in 22:17.3, senior Jennifer Brief taking 29th in a time
of 22:25.6, junior Kim Bushner placing 33rd in 22:31.8, freshman Jennifer
Connelly in 34th place at 22:32.3, senior Lauren Laviola finishing
36th in 22:36.8, senior Robin Edward in 42nd place with a time of 23:02.0,
freshman Ashley McCuen taking 44th in 23:14.3, junior Eileen Weber
at 72nd place in 25:43.6, sophomore Alicia Hernandez in 82nd place
with a time of 26:27.4 and freshman Ivy Walker finishing 83rd in 26:28.7.
At 2003 Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Lehigh University – 5th
of 7 Moravian Individual Results
The Greyhounds placed fifth of seven schools at the 2003 Lehigh Valley
Championships hosted by Lehigh University. Moravian had a team score
of 133 and trailed DeSales University by 12 points while beating Muhlenberg
College by eight points. Junior Heather McGarvie led the Greyhounds
with an 11th place finish in the 70-runner race with a time of 23:39.8
in the 6,000-meter race. Junior Chelsea Mullins finished 16th in 23:53.8
while sophomore Lauren Bahnatka was 32nd in 25:00.2. Rounding out the
Moravian top fiver were junior Alison Stoyko in 50th place with a time
of 26:25.4 and junior Kim Bushner at 53rd in 26:40.2. The Greyhounds
other runners included junior Kellie Smith in 57th place at 27:08.9,
sophomore Julie Leiby at 63rd in 28:32.3, freshman Jenn Connelly in
64th place with a time of 28:46.5 and senior Robin Edward in 65th at
29:07.9.
At Marywood University Invitational – 2nd of 8 Moravian
Individual Results
Moravian opened its 2003 cross country season with a second place
finish of 64 points at the Marywood University Invitational in Scranton.
The University of Scranton won the eight-team race with 59 points and
Muhlenberg College was third with 70 points. For the Greyhounds, junior
Chelsea Mullins led the squad with a time of 20:12 on the 5,000-meter
course, good enough for fifth place in the 82-competitor race. Junior
Heather McGarvie placed seventh in a time of 20:21 while sophomore
Lauren Bahnatka was 11th in 21:11. Rounding out the Moravian top five
were junior Kim Bushner in 20th place with a time of 21:57 and junior
Alison Stoyko in 23rd place in 22:08.
Other runners for Moravian included senior Jen Brief in 30th place
at 22:27, freshman Ashley McCuen at 34th in 22:58, sophomore Alexis
Vergalla at 35th in 22:58, junior Kellie Smith at 36th in 22:59, freshman
Jennifer Connolly in 42nd place with a time of 23:35, sophomore Julie
Leiby at 43rd in 23:37, junior Eileen Weber at 76th with a time of
