2003 Review

The 2003 Moravian College Women’s Cross Country team placed sixth in the MAC and finished in ninth place at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. Seventeenth-year head coach Mark Will-Weber had two runners earn All-Conference selection.

Junior Heather McGarvie (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) was tenth in the MAC meet, qualifying her to receive First Team All-MAC honors. Her best time of the season was 23:39.80 at the Lehigh Valley Championships. McGarvie earned All-Region honors for the third straight year as she placed 18th at the 2003 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. Sophomore Lauren Bahnatka (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) finished 19th in the MAC meet, qualifying her to receive Second Team All-MAC Honors. Bahnatka placed 78th out of 264 runners at the Mideast Regional.

Junior Chelsea Mullins (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS) finished in 37th place at the Mideast Regional. Junior Alison Stoyko (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) finished in 48th place at the MAC Meet finished at 111th place in the Regional meet. Senior Lauren Laviola (Jersey City, NJ/St. Dominic Academy HS) at 53rd in the MAC meet and placed 136th in the Mideast Regional. Sophomore Alexis Vergalla (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees HS) in 57th place in the Mac meet while finishing 95th in the Mideast Regional.

The Greyhounds had six other runner compete at he MAC meet with sophomore Julie Leiby (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton HS) finishing in 59th position, junior Kellie Smith (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) placing 68th, junior Kim Bushner (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) taking 72nd place, freshman Jennifer Connolly (Manchester, NJ/Manchester West HS) placing 83rd, senior Robin Edward (Massapequa, NY/Plainedge HS) finishing in 98th place and freshman Ashley McCuen (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham HS) in 104th place.

Also running for the Greyhounds is senior Jennifer Brief (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson HS), junior Eileen Weber (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS), sophomore Alicia Hernandez (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS), and freshman Ivy Walker (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS).

Moravian had eight student-athletes named to 2003 Middle Atlantic Corporation Fall All-Academic Team including McGarvie, Bahnatka, Brief, Mullins, Smith, Stoyko, Vergalla and Hernandez.
