Moravian finished sixth of 35 teams at the 2004 NCAA Division III Mideast
Regional hosted by Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The
Greyhounds had a team score of 215, just 18 points behind fourth-place
Haverford College for the final spot in the 2004 NCAA Division III National
Championships next weekend. The host Gators won the race with a score
of 99 points. Moravian did have two runners earn All-Region Honors with
top-35 finishes led by senior Chelsea Mullins, who completed the 6,000-meter
course in 22:38.0 to place ninth overall. Senior Heather McGarvie was
11th of the 259 competitors with a time of 22:55.0. Freshman Christina
Maiale was 57th in the meet with a time of 24:27.0 while freshman Krystyn
Fenon took 59th for the Greyhounds in 24:29.0. Both Maiale and Fenon
earn Freshman All-Region honors for finishing among the top 14 freshmen
in the meet. Junior Lauren Bahnatka rounded out the Moravian top five
with an 86th place finish in 25:00.0. Also competing for the Greyhounds
were junior Alexis Vergalla, who placed 92nd in 25:08, and junior Ellen
Hansen, who was 139th in a time of 26:03.0. Moravian did finish three
spots ahead of rival Muhlenberg College to earn the point in the annual
Matte Award standings.
At 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships
Hosted by Widener University at Belmont Plateau, Philadelphia, PA -
2nd of 15 - Moravian Individual Results
Moravian placed second of 15 schools at the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference
Championships hosted by Widener University at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia's
Fairmont Park. The Greyhounds, who are ranked 24th in the nation this
week, had a team score of 65 points, just 19 point behind MAC Champion
Elizabethtown College. Seniors Chelsea Mullins and Heather McGarvie
each earned All-Conference First Team honors with top ten finishes in
the race. Mullins was third overall on the 6,000-meter course in a time
of 23:07.0 while McGarvie was fourth of the 124 runners in 23:12.0.
The Greyhounds also had two runners earn All-Conference Second Team
accolades with freshman Krystyn Fenon placing 17th in 24:41.0 and freshman
Christine Maiale finishing 20th in a time of 24:53.0. Junior Lauren
Bahnatka rounded out the top five for the Greyhounds, finishing 21st
in 24:59.0.
Senior Kim Bushner was 30th in the race with a time of 25:32.0 while
senior Alison Stoyko placed 41st in 26:04.0. Also competing for the
Greyhounds were junior Alexis Vergalla, who was 54th in 26:45.0, freshman
Emily Graney, who took 73rd place in 27:52.0, freshman Theresa Zataveski,
who placed 74th in 27:54.0, and senior Kellie Smith, who finished 79th
in a time of 28:10.0.
At DeSales University Invitational -
3rd of 27 - Moravian Individual Results
Moravian placed third of 27 schools at the DeSales University Invitational
in the team's final tune-up prior to the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference
Championships. The Greyhounds, ranked 25th in the nation this week,
had a team score of 94 points, 20 points behind winner Dickinson College.
Senior Chelsea Mullins led Moravian on the 6,000-meter course with a
seventh place finish in a time of 23:42.43. Senior Heather McGarvie
was 11th of 191 runners in 24:22.03 while junior Ellen Hansen placed
14th at 24:29.28. Freshman Krystyn Fenon took 30th in 25:27.23 while
classmate Christina Maiale was 32nd in 25:31.62. Rounding out the Moravian
runners were junior Lauren Bahnatka in 45th at 26:04.96 and junior Alexis
Vergalla at 48th in a time of 26:13.86.
The Greyhounds also placed fourth of six teams in the junior varsity
race with a score of 86 points. Senior Alison Stoyko was ninth of 68
runners on the 6,000-meter course in 26:35.81 while senior Kim Bushner
placed 21st in 27:12.88. Freshman Theresa Zataveski had a time of 27:42.10
to place 25th while senior Kellie Smith was 30th at 28:09.02. Also competing
for the Greyhounds were freshman Emily Graney in 32nd at 28:13.30, senior
Julie Leiby at 36th in 28:43.29, sophomore Ashley McCuen in 38th in
28:53.18, sophomore Jennifer Connelly, who was 53rd in a time of 30:56.43,
senior Alicia Hernandez at 62nd in 32:25.41, and sophomore Ivy Walker
in 65th at 34:07.41.
At LaSalle University Invitational -
2nd of 14 - Moravian Individual Results
The Greyhounds finished second of 14 schools at the LaSalle University
Invitational, run on the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, the site of
the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Moravian had a team
score of 71 points while the University of Buffalo won the meet with
a score of 28 points. Senior Chelsea Mullins led Moravian with a fifth
place finish with a time of 19:10.0 on the 5,000-meter course. Senior
Heather McGarvie was ninth of the 128 competitors in 19:31.5 while freshman
Krystyn Fenon was 12th with a time of 19:49.70. Rounding out the top
five for the Greyhounds were junior Ellen Hansen in 22nd place at 20:06.9
and junior Lauren Bahnatka in 28th position with a time of 20:12.4.
Also competing for the Greyhounds were junior Alexis Vergalla, who
was 47th in 21:00.0, freshma Christina Maiale, who placed 53rd with
a time of 21:10.0, senior Kim Bushner, who was 73rd in 21:50.2; senior
Alison Stoyko, who finished 74th in 21:52.0, and freshman Theresa Zataveski,
who placed 75th with a time of 21:54.2.
At Allegheny College Classic - 4th
of 21 - Moravian Individual Results
Moravian finished fourth of 21 schools at the Allegheny College Classic,
which was run on the same course that will be used in November for the
2004 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. The greyhounds had a team score
of 124 while Dickinson College won the meet with a score of 72 points.
Senior Chelsea Mullins placed sixth among the 226 competitors on the
6,000-meter course with a time of 22:44.0. Freshman Krystyn Fenon was
18th in 23:37.0 while junior Ellen Hanson placed 24th with a time of
23:50.0. Rounding out the top five for Moravian were senior Heather
McGarvie in 30th place with a time of 24:00.0 and junior Lauren Bahnatka
in 46th place at24:45.0. Freshman Christine Maiale was 50th overall
in 24:50.0 while junior Alexis Vergalla posted a time of 25:21.0 to
finish 63rd.
Also competing for Moravian were senior Kim Bushner, who was 78th in
25:35.0, senior Alison Stoyko, who placed 104th in 26:06.0, freshman
Theresa Zataveski, who was 112th in 26:19.0, freshma Catelyn Savoth,
who was 135th with a time of 26:50.0, senior Kellie Smith in 140th place
at 26:56.0, sophomore Ashley McCuen, who was 147th in 27:07.0 and junior
Julie Leiby, who finished in 165th place with a time of 27:44.0.
At Mule/Falcon Classic at Cedar Crest
College - Cancelled
The Greyhounds second meet of the year, a trip to Allentown to compete
in the Mule/Falcon Classic hosted by Muhlenberg College and Cedar Crest
College, was cancelled due to heavy rain.
At 2004 Lehigh Valley Championships - 3rd
of 6 - Moravian Individual Results
The Moravian College women's cross country team opened the 2004 season
with a third place finish at the 2004 Lehigh Valley Championships run
on the Murray Goodman Campus of Lehigh University. The Greyhounds had
66 points, 20 points behind NCAA Division I schools Lafayette College
and Lehigh, which tied for first. Senior Chelsea Mullins led the Greyhounds
on the 6,000-meter course with a third place finish in a time of 23:01.0.
Freshman Krystyn Fenon was tenth of 67 runners with a time of 23:58.0
while senior Heather McGarvie was 14th in 24:14.00. Rounding out the
top five for the Greyhounds were freshman Christina Maiale in 17th place
at 24:35.0 and junior Lauren Bahnatka in 22nd place at 24:50.0.
Also competing for the Greyhounds were junior Ellen Hansen in 33rd
place at 25:38.0, junior Alexis Vergalla at 40th in 26:28.1, senior
Kim Bushner in 48th place in 27:02.0, senior Alison Stoyko at 49th in
27:06.0, freshman Theresa Zataveski in 50th place in 27:11.0, senior
Kellie Smith at 51st in 27:29.0 and freshman Nicole Sirico in 61st place
with a time of 29:35.1.
