2004 Review

The 2004 Moravian College women’s cross country team placed second in the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference and finished in sixth place at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional run at Allegheny College. Eighteen-year head coach Mark Will-Weber had four runners earn All-Conference and All-Region accolades.


Senior Chelsea Mullins (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS) finished third in the MAC meet qualifying her to receive First Team All-MAC honors. Mullins placed ninth in the regionals with her best time of the season, 22:38.00 to earn All-Region honors. Senior Heather McGarvie (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) was fourth in the MAC meet, also qualifying her to receive First Team All-MAC honors. Her best time of the season was 22:55.00 at the 2004 NCAA Mideast Regional placing her 11th at the meet to achieve All-Region honors for the fourth straight year.

Freshmen Krystyn Fenon (Palmerton, PA/Lehighton HS) and Christina Maiale (Emmaus, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) received Second Team All-MAC honors. Fenon finished 17th and Maiale finished 20th with her best time of the season, 24:27.00. Fenon’s best time was at the Allegheny Classic with a 23:37.00. Junior Lauren Bahnatka (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) came in right after Maiale placing 21st. In the Regional, Maiale placed 57th, Fenon placed 59th, and Bahnatka finished 86th with Maiale and Fenon earning Freshman All-Region honors.

Senior Kim Bushner (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) finished 30th in the MAC meet with her best time, 25:32.00 while fellow senior Alison Stoyko (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) finished in 41st place at the MAC Meet with a 26:04.00, her fastest time. Junior Alexis Vergalla (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees HS) came in 54th place in the Mac meet and 92nd in the regional meet. Junior Ellen Hansen (Alburtis, PA/Brandywine Heights HS) placed 139th in the regional meet.

The Greyhounds had three other runner compete at he MAC meet with senior Kellie Smith (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) placing 79th, and freshmen Emily Graney (Palisades, NY/Tappan Zee HS) finishing 73rd and Theresa Zataveski (Quakertown, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) placing 74th.

Also running for the Greyhounds are junior Alicia Hernandez (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS), and Julie Leiby (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton HS) and sophomores Ivy Walker (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS), Jennifer Connelly (Manchester, NH/Manchester West HS), and Ashley McCuen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham HS), and freshmen Christina Roccamo (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS), Nicole Sirico (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley HS), and Catelyn Savoth (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS).

Moravian had 10 student-athletes named to 2004 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll including McGarvie, Bahnatka, Mullins, Smith, Stoyko, Vergalla, Connelly, Leiby, McCuen, and Hernandez.
