Why did you choose to come to Moravian College?

I chose to come to Moravian for a couple of reasons, the first because it was smaller in size. I wanted a small college so I would feel more at home and comfortable at least knowing ofeveryone I saw on campus. I also saw it as an opportunity to become more involved with organizations I was interested in. Another reason was the distance from home. I wanted it to be far enough away, but close enough where I would be able to come home during breaks or if I had ever suddenly needed to make the trip back. The third reason was because of how beautiful the campus was. The ranges of architecture in the different buildings on campus give Moravian a unique look that other colleges don’t have. The last reason was because of its proximity to hundreds of businesses and the public in general. It was very different from back at home, for example, where it takes 20 minutes just to find somewhere that sells food!

What is your major (minor if applicable) at Moravian and how did you decide on it?

My major at Moravian is Business Management, with a minor in Accounting. I came in to college undecided, but eventually decided on this because I realized that with my previous jobs, I had taken on leadership positions and have been able to take over and solve problems when my bosses weren’t there. I also want to someday start my own business. I love working with numbers – that’s how the accounting portion fits in the picture.

What has been your favorite course at Moravian and why?

My favorite course at Moravian was my Financial Accounting class I took to work towards my Accounting minor. I liked it because it dealt a lot with organizational skills and the basic Accounting methods that have been used in every other course I’ve taken in that field since then. Everything just seemed to click and make sense.

What are your plans for the future once you finish your degree at Moravian?

Once I graduate, I plan to stay in the Lehigh Valley and become employed in either a position in the Business Management or Accounting field. Although this is broad, I know there are a lot of opportunities I have to narrow down the choices. Eventually, in the longer term, I plan to own my own business – possibly a restaurant of some sort.

What is your most memorable moment as a Greyhound?

My most memorable moment as a Greyhound was running at the 2007 Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University at the end of last cross country season. Coach Lobb had given us times he expected us to meet, and I, along with the rest of the team, was highly doubtful that we would be able to hit these times. Sure enough though, not only did everyone meet the times, but some of us ran even faster than that – everyone ran their season best at that race. It goes to show that you should never give up on what you think could be impossible, because you will surprise yourself in the end with how you can perform.

How has being an athlete helped you as a student and in the classroom?

Being an athlete has helped me enormously both as a student and in the classroom – time management is key. Being on the team requires me to be at practice for about two hours every weekday, plus usually a full day every weekend away from campus for meets. I’ve learned to get more organized in order to complete class assignments at times outside of cross country commitments. It has also helped me to become more confident in meeting new people, as well as not being afraid to push myself to see what I’m really capable of doing.
