2004 Review

Moravian College women’s lacrosse team completed its second season as part of the NCAA and has improved from last year finishing with an overall record of 2-12 and a 1-9 slate in the Commonwealth Conference.

First year head coach, Kate Miller coached a team consisted of three seniors, three juniors, five sophomore, and four freshman in her debut season with the Greyhounds.

Leading Moravian in goals and points was sophomore Jess Cordani (Point Pleasant Boro, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) with 38 and 40, respectively, to go along with two assists and 77 caused turnovers, an average of 5.5 per match, which leads all of NCAA Division III. Cordani, who added 42 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers, was also named to the MAC All-Conference Second Team.

In her debut season with the Hounds, freshman Lindsay Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) was second on the team in goals with 29 and had three assists for 32 point. Lustrino added 30 ground balls, 26 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers while sophomore Shannon Kelly (Southlake, TX/Carroll HS) contributed 16 goals and seven assists for 23 points. Kelly also had 24 ground balls, 15 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers.

Senior Kaity Cerco (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights HS) led the team in assists with nine to go along with seven goals for 16 points. She added 16 draw controls, 14 caused turnover and ten ground balls. Sophomore Rebecca Schol (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) added four goals and two assists for six points to go along with 16 ground balls while senior Lindsay Murphy (Lansdale, PA/North Penn HS) contributed three goals for three points in her final season with the Hounds.

Junior Kristen Granato (Drexel Hill, PA/Haverford HS), sophomore Lauren Johnston (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Upper Moreland HS), and freshman Nicole Dodd (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris Central HS) each contributed one assist this season. Granato and Johnston each added 21 grounds balls and 14 caused turnovers while Dodd had ten ground balls and three caused turnovers. Granato also had 14 draw controls.

Freshman Jenna Abramson (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) contributed 11 groundballs and 14 caused turnovers while classmate Jennifer Connolly (Manchester, NJ/Manchester West HS) added six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Kristen Schol (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) had 22 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Senior Marissa Weaknecht (New Philadelphia, OH/New Philadelphia HS) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers for Moravian.

In the cage junior Hayley Zamek (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) saw all 852 minutes for the Greyhounds, Zamek’s first-ever season as a goalie. She made 149 saves, had a .419 saves percentage, and posted a 14.58 goals against average.

Coach Miller expects to return most of her team next season and continues to look for improving.
