2005 Review

TheMoravian College women’s lacrosse team completed its third season as part of the NCAA and posted an overall record of 3-12 with a 1-9 slate in Middle Atlantic Conference action.

Second year head coach Kate Miller coached a team that consisted of one senior, five juniors, six sophomores, and ten freshmen.

Leading Moravian in goals and points was junior midfielder Jess Cordani (Point Pleasant Boro, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) with 43 and 47, respectively, to go along with four assists and 17 caused turnovers. Cordani also added 48 ground balls, and 30 draw controls.

Sophomore attack Lindsay Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) was second on the team in goals with 32 and had four assists for 36 points. Lustrino added 45 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. In her debut season with the Hounds, freshman midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) was ranked in NCAA Division III statistics in draw controls with an average of 4.00 draw controls per match. She also added 21 goals and two assists for 23 points, and had 48 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Also in her debut season, freshman attack Kellie Barnes (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown HS) scored 18 goals, and had 16 ground balls, eight draw controls and six caused turnovers.

Junior attack Rebecca Schol (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) contributed six goals, one assist, and 22 ground balls, while sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Bedford (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood HS) had two goals this season. Freshmen attacks Robyn Klem (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and Victoria Alston (Gwynedd, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy HS) each contributed one goal. Klem also had 33 ground balls.

Junior defender Lauren Johnston (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Upper Moreland HS) contributed 42 ground balls, eight draw controls, and eight caused turnovers. Fellow classmate defender Kristen Schol (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) added 22 ground balls and six caused turnovers while sophomore defender Jenna Abramson (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) contributed 18 ground balls, 17 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Sophomore defender Nicole Dodd (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris Central HS) had 15 ground balls, three draw controls, and seven caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Kindel Estes (New Providence, NJ/New Providence HS) contributed 13 ground balls, two draw controls and five caused turnovers.

Freshman midfielder Mauri Dallago (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) added nine ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers, while classmate midfielder Casey Simpson (Laporte, PA/Sullivan County HS) had six ground balls and one draw control and caused turnover. Freshman attack Jessica Bodine (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) and sophomore defender Jennifer Connolly (Manchester, NH/Manchester West HS) each had two ground balls while senior attacks Hayley Zamek (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS), and Michelle Dougherty (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM HS), and freshman midfielder Lauren Pochron (Allentown, PA/Salisbury HS) had one ground ball each.

In the cage, sophomore Jennifer Gassner (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) saw all 900 minutes in goal for the Greyhounds. She made 164 saves, had a .429 saves percentage, and posted a 14.53 goals against average.

Coach Miller expects to return most of her team next season and continues to look for improving.
