2008 Review

The Moravian College women’s lacrosse team completed its sixth season as part of the NCAA and posted an overall record of 9-7 and competed in the newly created Landmark Conference. Fifth-year head coach Kate Miller coached the Greyhounds to their best record since the sport was instituted at Moravian in 2003.

Leading the Greyhounds was senior midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS), who had 62 goals and 15 assists for a total of 77 points on the year. Spatz, who was named to the 2008 Landmark All-Conference First Team, also had 57 ground balls, 57 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. Spatz, pictured at right, set many school records including most goals in a season (62), most assists in a single game (4), most assists in a season (15), most points in a season (77), most ground balls in a season (57), most draw controls in a game (10), most draw controls in a season (60) and most draw controls in a career (155).

Sophomore midfielder Lynda Kauffman (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester HS) contributed 43 goals, eight assists, 23 ground balls, 36 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers, while sophomore attack Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council Rock North HS) put in 33 goals, three assists, 22 ground balls, five draw controls and seven caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Paige Warbrick (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area HS) recorded 21 goals, 11 assists, 28 ground balls, 11 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers while junior attack Georgia Castellano (Cherry Hills, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) had 19 goals, six assists, 13 ground balls, 12 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers on the season.

Senior midfielder Casey Simpson (Laporte, PA/Sullivan County HS) put in 12 goals, four assists, 10 ground balls, 16 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Maureen Helfers (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke HS) posted eight goals, five assists, eight ground balls, and nine draw controls. Senior attack Jessica Bodine (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) netted five goals, one assist, four ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Sarah Carman (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) had eight goals, 42 ground balls, 27 draw controls and a team leading 15 caused turnovers.

Senior midfielder Robyn Klem (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and sophomore defender Katie Wise (Ardsley, PA/Abington HS) each put in three goals and one assist with Klem adding 42 ground balls, 15 draw controls and nine caused turnovers and Wise contributing 48 ground balls, 27 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. Freshman attack Shannon Algeo (Spring-Ford, PA/Spring-Ford HS) recorded two goals and sophomore midfielder Brittany Deiling (Chews Landing, NJ/Triton Regional HS) put in one goal and one assist.  Deiling also had 19 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

Freshman midfielder Kara Johnson (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) had 10 ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers, while senior defender Marissa Moore (Bogota, NJ/Paramus Catholic HS) picked up 17 ground balls, seven draw controls and seven caused turnovers. Freshman defender Amanda Bron (Manville, NJ/Manville HS) had scooped up one ground ball and one draw control on the year.

In goal for the Greyhounds were sophomore Courtney Rosenberg (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional HS) and freshmen Angel Genther (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS). Rosenberg, who was named to the 2008 Landmark All-Conference Second Team, had a 13.62 goal against average to go along with 196 saves and 35 ground balls in 912 minutes of action. Rosenberg, pictured above with Wise, also set schools records in most saves in a season (196) the season and career mark for a goalie record (9-7). Genther had five goals against with five saves in 47 minutes of play.

Spatz, Klem, Bodine, Moore, Deiling, Wise and Warbrick were all named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Coach Miller expects to return most of her team next season and continues to look for improvement as the squad looks to reach the Landmark Conference Playoffs.
